Timbaland and Metro Boomin are sitting in 11th Street Records in Las Vegas one afternoon in July, talking about the difference between a hit and a classic. “You did ‘Bad and Boujee,’ ” Timbaland notes, referring to the 2016 Migos track Metro produced. “That’s a classic.”
Metro offers his own distinction. “There might be a classic that peaks at Number 23, and another song goes Number One,” he notes, “but you can play them both 10 years later, and you might not even want to hear the One.” (For the record, “Bad and...

“Life is what happens when you’re busy making other plans”, John Lennon once said, a sentiment that resonates profoundly as we reflect on the impactful yet tragically brief life of Liam Payne. On October 16, 2024, the world dimmed a little with the news of the One Direction singer’s passing at just 31 years of age. But even amidst the sadness, one cannot help but marvel at the incredible financial legacy Payne leaves behind, with a net worth estimated at a staggering $70 million.

While the music world mourns, there is much to celebrate in Payne’s journey from heartthrob boy band member to a successful solo artist. Though his time with One Direction likely accounted for the lion’s share of his wealth, Payne’s financial success may have waned in the years following his departure from the band.

In less than two weeks, Katy Perry will release her latest album, 143. The album era began in July with “Woman’s World” and continued with “Lifetimes” in August. Neither single has been received exactly how Perry seemed to hope they would as far as her comeback goes, so she’s breaking out a secret weapon — and not the one that has been the source of controversy in her album release. The Florida rapper Doechii will appear on the next 143 single, “I’m His, He’s Mine,” out Friday, Sept. 13.

Hybe, the label behind Korean supergroup BTS, announced today that its annual sales hit 2.17 trillion won (US$1.6 billion) in 2023, making it the first K-pop agency ever to reach this milestone.
In a conference call, the company said that robust album and concert sales by its major artists contributed to this achievement, including Seventeen, Tomorrow X Together, NewJeans, Enhypen and BTS members as soloists.
Several BTS members are currently undergoing mandatory military service, and the band is temporarily on hiatus. However, it continues to resonate globally, with the likes of Disney+ and Prime Video releasing docs on the band.
Despite their absence, the band’s popularity helped operating profits hit 295.8Bn won, up nearly 25% year-on-year, and a net profit of 186.6Bn won, a whopping 288.5% up on 2022.
Hybe’s annual sales for full-year 2023 are up 22.6% from last year. Album sales were worth $730M, marking a significant increase of 75.8% from 2022. Concert revenue also increased 39.1% to $270M,...

Comedian Shane Gillis returned to Saturday Night Live (SNL) nearly four and a half years after his controversial exit from the sketch comedy show. Gillis hosted the February 24, 2024 episode of the show and performed the show’s trademark host’s monologue. However, Gillis’ jokes were poorly received by the audience in the show and at home.
Shane Gillis on Saturday Night Live (SNL)
As a result, Gillis’ return became equally polarizing as his exit, as fans took to social media to bash the comedian. While most fans found Gillis’ monologue cringe-inducing, there have been other similar moments in the past that were arguably more appalling to the fans. Here is why fans were appalled by Gillis’ jokes and other SNL moments that were probably even more cringe.

This post contains spoilers for "Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain."
The comedy trio known as Please Don't Destroy has been making a splash at "Saturday Night Live" for the past couple years. Creating fast-paced, absurd, pre-recorded sketches starring themselves, as well as being part of the writing staff, the trio has made a quite name for themselves. Last weekend, their first movie debuted on Peacock, "Please Don't Destroy: The Treasure of Foggy Mountain," and it's the kind of comedy that we wish could have been given a theatrical release in order to have that communal experience of laughing out loud with a crowd. But at least it's getting a chance to find an audience. Plus, director Paul Briganti is used to people watching his stuff at home anyway.
Briganti worked at "SNL" for six years before departing the series late in 2021, just as Please Don't Destroy had joined the series.

Offset may be one of the biggest rappers at the moment, but at home, he's simply just dad. The 31-year-old musician, who is married to Cardi B, has five children, all of whom are from different relationships, the most recent being Cardi. Offset and Cardi have two kids together, daughter Kulture and son Wave, who join Offset's three other kids, Jordan, Kody, and Kalea. All five kiddos appeared in Offset and Cardi B's "Jealousy" music video, released in July, making it another sweet family affair.
From the looks of Offset's social media, his kids all get along with one another and even posed for the May/June 2022 cover of Essence together. Of blending their families, Cardi told the publication, "After we got married, that's when I first met his kids. I always wanted them to love me, and they really do. They tell me that. James Corden pulled one more “Carpool Karaoke” out of his (Santa’s) hat this year, with a little help from all the singers who filmed their version of the popular “Late Late Show” segment this year. And, as he decided to drop it Dec. 20, it was holiday mashup edition, obviously.
The CBS late-night host starts off the bit by sitting in his van, which is brimming with holiday decorations and goodies, wondering why he just doesn’t feel Christmasy yet. Enter Michael Buble.
As soon as the king of modern Christmas music arrives, Corden is feeling merry and bright and the two begin to sing Darlene Love’s “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home).” But that’s just where the Christmas magic begins.

What they lose in pitch is made up in spirit, as the superstar cast draws some oohs, aahhs and applause when they each take their turn on a line.

Journalist Walsh dives into the Boston rock scene of the time, where Morrison made the LP after fleeing New York, due to problems with a mobbed-up record business; there are cameos from Timothy Leary,...

Offset is speaking out after a grand gesture to win his wife Cardi B back didn't exactly go as planned. On Saturday night, the Migos rapper appeared onstage at Cardi's Rolling Loud Festival show in Los Angeles and surprised her with a massive cake and floral bouquet from Venus Et Fleur which read "Take Me Back Cardi." The whole look apparently set him back about $15,000. Offset pleaded with the "Bartier Cardi" rapper and begged her to forgive him for his alleged infidelity. "I just wanna tell you I'm sorry, bro, in person, in front of the world," he said. "I love you. Whatever I gotta do to show you that, I'm there." Despite the chivalrous appeal, Cardi had the...

Who would have thought that the Super Bowl Halftime show, an American institution watched by more than 100 million people, would become the least wanted gig in music? But thanks to the ongoing controversy concerning the NFL’s stance on a player’s right to protest, brought to the forefront by football’s top conscientious objector Colin Kaepernick, Maroon 5 are learning the precarious stance that the performance represents.
According to sources, the band has reached out to more than a half-dozen stars to appear as featured guests during the 13-minute slot midway through Super Bowl Liii, but so far, none have agreed to do it. Among those considering the appearance are Cardi B, who is featured on the Maroon 5 hit “Girls Like You,” which spent seven weeks at No. 1 over the fall (the rapper is also scheduled to appear at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 10) and Andre Benjamin, Aka Andre 3000 of beloved local act Outkast.

James Harden was channeling his inner Migos before takin' on LeBron and the Lakers ... showing up to the game Thursday in a full Versace snakeskin short suit -- and then he Balled Out!! With the majority of his thighs out on display, Harden swagged his way into the Toyota Center in Houston and then dropped a 50 Burger on the Lake Show. The Rockets eventually won the game 126 to 111. So, how much does drip like this cost?...

At Chicago's B96 Jingle Bash concert on Saturday, Cardi B performed her hits and also rapped a modified version of her verse from "MotorSport," he collaboration with her ex's group Migos: "I get up set off / I turn Offset on / I told him the other day / Yeah, we gon' get a divorce." In the wake of Cardi B’s divorce announcement, a new video featuring rapper Offset surfaced — and it appears that the alleged threesome he was trying to set up with Cuban Doll isn’t the only incident Cardi has to be upset about. The latest video to pop up features both Offset and Quavo from Migos along with Australian model Sophia Ali, who is seen teasingly exposing her breasts to the two rappers. The video has seemingly vanished from the internet nearly as fast as it surfaced. There are some reporting not to post it on social media, as the Sophia […]

Cardi B's not crying a river -- publicly, anyway --- after breaking up with Offset ... she's too damn busy getting that money. We got the rapper at E11EVEN nightclub Wednesday night in Miami where she showed off some very colorful locks (very Tekashi-esque of her) and a super tight, see-through dress. Cardi grabbed the mic and did her thing ... showing no signs of a heartbreak. Sorry, Offset. Life in the single lane seems to...

"I don't date rappers." That was Cardi B's succinct response when a pal informed her that Atlanta-based wordsmith Offset, one-third of trap music's leading trio Migos, was interested. It was nothing personal, she would explain to the man himself, not a knock on the romantic history that led to him having three kids with three women, or his lengthy rap sheet that included an eight-month stint in jail. She's just always maintained a no musicians policy, she explained to E! News. "Because I know that these rappers they like women, and I always felt like if, 'Imagine I have sex with you and I fall in love with you and you not trying to take me serious.'" Besides, she...

Gucci Mane and Kevin Gates performed their boastful single “I’m Not Goin'” on Tuesday’s Jimmy Kimmel Live. The rappers exchanged verses on an unadorned stage, pacing back and forth as they fired off lines about wealth, status and fighting off their naysayers.
“They told me, ‘Stop buying all these fancy cars’/ They told me, ‘Please take all your diamonds off,” Gucci rapped on the chorus, utilizing a high register that blended with the booming backing track. “I’m getting too rich to fly commercial flights/ They wanna lock me up like Suge Knight.

It’s almost unheard of for one artist to earn multiple Grammy nominations for Record of the Year at the same ceremony. Pharrell Williams did it in 2014 as a featured artist on both “Blurred Lines” and the winning song “Get Lucky,” but when nominations are announced on December 5 two hopefuls could make history as the first female artists ever to accomplish the feat: Beyonce and Cardi B.
Beyonce has been nominated for Record of the Year five times without a win thus far: “Say My Name” with Destiny’s Child (2001), “Crazy in Love” (2004), “Irreplaceable” (2008), “Halo” (2010) and “Formation” (2017). She could up that total to seven this year with a pair of duets. According to the combined predictions of nearly 2,000 Gold Derby users, she ranks fourth in the category for “Perfect” with Ed Sheeran (17/2 odds) and sixth for “Apeshit” with Jay-z (13/1).

If I were a betting man — and as an editor at Gold Derby, I pretty much am — I’d give the edge to Cardi B just from the sheer volume of her opportunities. The Bronx rapper could be nominated for her critically acclaimed debut album “Invasion of Privacy” and the hit songs it produced including “I Like It” and “Be Careful.” But she was also a featured artist on...

Quavo serves as an inspirational basketball coach in his Space Jam-inspired video for “How Bout That?” The song appears on his debut solo album, Quavo Huncho, which was released in October.
In the playful, Quavo and Kid Studio-directed clip, the Migos rapper/coach meets with his basketball team, who are deflated as they enter a locker room. Fueling them with “Quavo’s Secret Stuff” and holding a glowing basketball a la Space Jam, Quavo gets the squad back in gear and ready to tackle their opponents. “We All Stars,” he raps as a reminder.

Migos rapper Takeoff staged a visual space launch while performing his solo song “Last Memory” on Tuesday’s Tonight Show. The emcee performed on a fog-shrouded stage backed by a massive screen. After a snippet of a rocket blast-off, the visuals switched to the lavish “Last Memory” video, featuring shots of a regal Takeoff wandering through a mansion. He ended the song with his back turned to the audience as the stage and screen turned white, followed by a brief glimpse of the stars.

I can honestly say that I never knew I needed Migos and James Corden to collaborate until I saw their round of Carpool Karaoke. Now I need a joint album! The episode features the rap trio hopping in the car for a very enthusiastic sing-along that also includes an impromptu shopping trip. Considering Migos came through armed with stacks on stacks of cash, you can bet they'll buy whatever Corden wants.
Not only does the foursome jam to a few of the rappers' greatest hits (can we have Corden rapping to "Bad and Boujee" on iTunes already?), but they also belt out the iconic Whitney Houston single "I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me)" - while dabbing, of course. Watch the video above, we'll be keeping an eye out for a future collab!

File this under "Something We Never Knew We Needed": Migos reenacting a dramatic scene from the new season of Narcos.
The rap trio, who recently appeared on James Corden's Carpool Karaoke, stopped by Netflix to see what Michael Peña's new role in season four, Narcos: Mexico, is all about. Offset, Quavo, and Takeoff read lines from a tense scene in the script, which sees Peña's undercover DEA agent Enrique "Kiki" Camarena trying to get more product from a drug lord's henchmen.
Naturally they couldn't help but giggle a few times - yes, the members of Migos giggle - as they worked their way through the scene. Even though we know the new season of the drama hits Netflix on Nov. 16, we kind of want a new spinoff starring Migos. Watch their interpretation of the series above!

Gucci Mane and Kevin Gates mix grit and glamour in the video for “I’m Not Goin.'” The track will appear on Gucci’s forthcoming album, Evil Genius, out December 7th. The video finds Gucci Mane and Gates performing the menacing cut in a decrepit throne room, though the dinginess is offset with pyrotechnics, jewelry, champagne and beautiful women. “I’m Not Goin'” finds Gucci Mane peeling off clever bars like, “Gucci’s anti-social, bipolar, he’s un-relatable / Heard he wrote a novel/ Got labels, but you can’t label him.
