I was not sure what to expect with this movie reading the description and after watching it, it is still hard to say what thing thing was trying to do or where it was set. At first with all the VR they were showing I thought it was set in the future, well, the future from 1996, but then the bad guy says it's the 90's. So the setting is strange and not really that of our earth, because we still do not have good virtual reality and it is 2021.
The story, a guy is living an ideal life with his wife and son. That is until people come and shoot him in the face and kill his family! He is sent to a mental hospital where he escapes two years later and ends up in a cave where he is turned into a savage! A savage who must take revenge upon the people responsible for his family's death! He will also meet a cop who sort of helps him as he jumps around and only seems marginally stronger than usual as I have seen films with Bruce Lee where Bruce is way more impressive without the benefit of being reverted back to a savage...
The cast consists of perpetually oily guy who is the start, Cary Grant's daughter and that one guy who has appeared in numerous movies and television shows and who is nondescript as the dreaded killer! I mean, when the savage and this guy have their confrontation of course the savage is going to win! It sure is not going to be the crooked vacuum salesman from that one episode of Wings!
So the film was not all that bad as I kept wondering how all the things going on in the film were going to tie together; however, they did not tie together in a very good way. I was disappointed by the reasons behind the murder of the family and also the nerdy bad guy's reasons for committing such atrocities. The powers the hero had were also wildly inconsistent as at times he seemed only marginally better than a non augmented human and at others he was jumping off skyscrapers and landing with no problem...
