...the last few have veered off of what made it enjoyable. It seems like they are all "the bad guy likes the victim and gets turned down so he comes back and kills her" or the "girl's significant other turns out to be a psycho". Let's get a little variety going, please.
And the absolute worst change (in my personal opinion) is the fact that they're now skewing the story so that any man in the victim's life "might" be the bad guy. Some random dude she saw at the gas station who ends up having nothing to do with the story, let's harp on that for ten minutes. The make it seem all sinister. Sometimes it's okay to let the bad guy be the bad guy from the beginning. I don't need two other men who have nothing to do with anything shoehorned into the plot for drama's sake.

I love the show, the filming, the plots. But I HATE that they show a clip of the end game, in the beginning of the show! How stupid! I don't want to know what's going to happen before it happens. Take that feature out and this is one of my favorite shows on ID!
The cases are stories worth telling. The problem is in the storytelling itself. While some of the presentation is professional and respectful, there are always 2-3 moments in each episode where that is thrown out the window and the show resorts to cheap fake-outs, spooky sound effects, and scare tactics stolen from horror movies. And while that works for shock value, it's really unfair to the victims and their families to go overboard with it.
The second and third episodes of Season 3 were particularly bad with this technique.
The one defense of using these horror film techniques is that it does a terrific job of conveying the "worst nightmare" scenarios that the victims felt. For that, I think it's worth watching.

Me and the boyfriend watch this show all the time but we're almost to the end of season 3 with season 4 coming to a close end, my question is are they making anymore and if so when! Ha
This really is Incels the Tv Show. Pretty much every story featured is "Woman say No to man" "Man comes back later and does awful things". Some of these cases are from as far back as the 70s. Again, there are worse ways to spend an hour of tv, but the pattern of the show really needs to be mixed up a little. There are female predators and killers out there.
It blew me away. My wife loves watching murder shows at night while I read, but I couldn't get past a page with this show on. It is excellent. The acting and the directing is perfect.
The cases they choose are good and they seem to have picked some very horrible murders. The acting though is terrible. Very campy acting, that almost feels like it's intentional. It's part of the appeal I think.
Because it's true crime you know something awful is going to happen and it builds up like a low budget made for TV movie. It's a shame that the first season isn't available in Discovery UK.
I have given it six stars as the production isn't bad and the stories are good.
Season 2 Episode 3 has a guy with the craziest wig. Does anyone know whether a new season will be coming out at all? Let's hope so.

Like no true crime series you've ever seen.
I've only watched a few episodes so far, but this is the most gut wrenching, horrifying and moving true life crime series I have ever seen. I don't usually get too emotionally involved in things on the TV (Extreme Makeover: Home Edition was one of the few exceptions), but these events are so well documented and terrifyingly portrayed. The episodes and the crimes involved really live up to the series title. I usually binge watch a series but can only manage one of these at a time. My heart goes out to all the victims and I hope the criminals get what they deserve in this life and every life after. I've never wanted to believe in reincarnation more so the punishments can continue forever.
I recommend this show if you like true crime, but just have some YouTube videos of fluffy animals to cheer you up after!

ID keeps making shows like this, trying to get horror movie fans instad of caring about the actual truth or victims. They used to report true crime but they might as well just be movies. Greed Takes Over Everything.
As soon as I watched this on the ID channel, I realized money was a bigger factor now low they've sunk. Turning real victims, real crime into Horror Movie style "entertainment" to get ratings. Ugh! It's sad the lengths this channel will go for ratingS The BAD overacting doesn't help either.
Other ID shows take terrible tragedies and dress them up with "pretty people" to try and make the stories more interesting to regular people & care nothing about the victims since they didn't look "Hollywood" enough to portray them as they look or even close.

I love true crime and documentaries like these shows. This one is one of my favorites! The title is pretty self explanatory, as many of these stories would be someone's worst nightmare!
In a sense, it is a little full of horror tropes and cliches, which is why I knocked my score down a little lower, but I'm serious! They really knew which stories to include in this series.
There are several episodes on here that I have rewatched a lot, such as "When the Lights Go Out" and "Bump in the Night". Those two episodes are creepy even without having a horror atmosphere. The stories alone are scary enough. Those cases would be someone's worst nightmare I would think.
I plan to watch the whole series, but I've only seen about a quarter so far. Out of all the other series on Investigation Discovery, this one is easily the most thrilling and intense. Highly recommend.

This one particular show stood out to me. I am a huge fan of crime investigation as I am also perusing this as a career. I will say the narrative of shows can be extremely biased, they forget to show how victims get into compromising situations or how family and friends negligence can sometimes make an individual a target. Not victim blaming just glad a show gives the viewers the ability to learn from the past.
I also like that I have seen a diverse display of characters. From the police, to simply a lady in the park that says hello.
The acting is very fair compared to most re-enactment shows even the set and environment shows good production and details

It was really REALLY boring to watch. 99% reenactment and 1% true footage. You can't make up your own opinions about the facts, because you are only presented with "based-upon" fiction performed by actors.

Seriously, binge the show and count them. Sometimes there's several in the same episode. Like most shows of this type from Discovery ID, otherwise decent acting and solid production values are undermined by the cornball nature of it all.

I love murder shows and I've watched just about every one I can get my hands on and this one is one of my absolute least favorites. It focuses so much on the reenactments and not the police investigation. There should be a healthy mix for each side of the story - what the victim is going through and what the police are doing. This show just doesn't have that healthy mix. Instead it's an uncomfortable reenactment with really bad acting and a mediocre voice narrator. Also, sometimes they go overboard with some of the police/detectives on the show that talk about god. It's just weird and misplaced. I prefer when detectives or professional people on murder shows (not families of the victims) are a little more neutral when expressing their beliefs. For example, on homicide hunter, Joe Kenda will make passing comments on a higher power or "something" and keep it fairly neutral. It just seems more professional to me. Regardless though, this show could be improved a lot by having maybe a script writer for what the professional people/detectives/police on the show are saying and show more of the investigation instead of bad actors fake screaming and crying as villains over act creepy/evil behavior.

The law enforcement characters aren't even dressed appropriately (baggy clothes, radio traffic, duty belts, trooper hats wore wrongly). 90% of the episodes are basically about people being killed who basically don't own firearms. Just stories showing people running away like cowards. A bunch of naïve neighbors. Clueless victims. Extra examples of nonsense: Victim dialed 9-11. Assailant heard 9-11 being called and exited the property. Victim states while on the phone with 9-11, nvm he left. Law Enforcement didn't show up? I'm dumbfounded. Call 9-11 and speak to dispatch while panicking, 9-11 will dispatch units immediately regardless. Additional example: Victims running through the house squalling and crying feeling trapped. Show showing that there are several among several exit points including windows but they stand there crying. If it's real it's real, but why would I want to watch clueless people be killed. It's like watching a Michael Myers movie where clueless folks are killed for being idiots.
