Sometimes, there’s a man…well, he’s the man for his time and place. He fits right in there. And that man is Jeff Bridges, who is downright one of the most chill actors in movie history, exuding a calm, Lebowski-esque way about life that can only come naturally. But that can hit the gutter in this unpredictable life, as it did when Jeff Bridges announced in 2020 that he had been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a form of cancer.
Thankfully, Jeff Bridges’ cancer went into remission the following year, allowing Bridges to not only press on with his life but learn just how special that time was. Appearing on the red carpet at the CMAs, Bridges told Entertainment Tonight, “I’m feeling good! Glad to have it in the rearview mirror but I’m feeling good. Exclusive: Paramount has preemptively acquired Two Truths and a Lie, a horror novella from Sarah Pinsker, enlisting Javier Gullón (Enemy) to adapt it for the big screen.
While plot details for the film are being kept under wraps, the novella tells the story of Stella, who was sure she’d made it up — a strange childhood memory of a local TV show with a disturbing host that she and the neighborhood kids supposedly appeared on. But when her old friend and even her mom confirm it happened, she’s left questioning why she has no memory of it. As she begins unraveling the truth behind the broadcast and its lingering presence in her town, the mystery becomes darker and more disturbing.
Walter Hamada will produce via his 18hz production company, as part of his first-look deal with the studio. 18hz’s Nathan Samdahl brought the project in and will oversee for the company,...

This week's episode of the Pilot TV Podcast is a real diamond — or, to be more accurate, a real Crystal. That's right folks, legendary funnyman Billy Crystal is on the show chatting to our resident comedy expert James Dyer about Apple TV+ supernatural mystery series Before, which is... well, not a comedy. But they do chat about Friends, the evolution of sitcoms, and much more in an expansive chat [1:02:20 — approx]. And as if that weren't treat enough, we also have another couple of gems with us on the pod this week in the shape of Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, the stars of Sky's new adaptation of the Frederick Forsyth's 1971 'analogue spycraft' classic novel The Day Of The Jackal. They sat down with our very own international man of mystery Boyd Hilton to discuss the show, assassins' work-life balance, six packs, and, er, Strictly Come Dancing [21:00 — 35:12 approx].

The run-up to Halloween is peak spooky season, and this week’s Samba TV Weekly Wrap Report proves that streaming audiences are flocking to scary fare. Yet despite an influx of horror flicks, thrillers, and serial killer content, none of it can scare “The Penguin” out of the top spot.
Collin Farrell’s turn as Gotham City’s bird-like crime boss has held the top spot for six consecutive weeks and shows no sign of stopping, with two more episodes to go in the Max/HBO series.
Now, let’s count the creepies. “Woman of the Hour,” in second place again this week, tells the how-can-this-be-real-life story of serial killer Rodney Alcala appearing as a contestant on “The Dating Game” in the 1970s. Newcomer “Don’t Move” is No. 4 this week, with 1.1 million households watching the Netflix horror movie in the first three days it was available.

After seven episodes of cross-continental family drama, globetrotting espionage, and political conspiracies, the second season of FX’s thriller series, The Old Man, comes to a satisfactory ending, which sets the stage for the upcoming season in a significant way. Both Suleyman Pavlovich and Harold’s wife, Marion, were revealed to be part of the secretive global cartel that wants to take over the rare earth mineral deposits across the world, specifically in countries with whom the USA and UK have strained relations. Suleyman was responsible for Morgan Bote’s murder, a piece of information that Harold used to convince Bote’s hitman, Carson, to help Zoe by offering him immunity in exchange. Pavlovich had set his sights on the Meshbahar lithium reserve and had Farhaz Hamzad’s lawyer, Nina Kruger, murdered in his effort to obtain it and send Russian mercs to Hamzad’s village to kill Parwana/Emily as well.

Starring Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, and Alia Shawkat, the hit espionage drama thriller “The Old Man” finally returns for a second season. Originally conceived of as a miniseries before being extended to two seasons (Bridges’ diagnosis of lymphoma and his cancer treatment might have been a motivating factor), the production for season 2 started in February 2022 before being halted in May 2023 due to the WGA strikes before finally resuming after the strikes had been lifted. Now season 2 returns, and while in reality and narratively, time has passed, the show itself hasn’t lost much of a beat. On the contrary, it might have tightened its focus slightly.

Warning: The following story contains spoilers from “The Old Man” Season 2, Episode 8.
The second season of FX’s “The Old Man” may have ended on a truly jaw-dropping power flip, but for series developer and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg, it was “a long time coming.”
Season 2 revolved around saving Angela/Emily (Alia Shawkat), a goal that required Chase (Jeff Bridges) to team up with his former partner-turned-rival Harper (John Lithgow) to rescue the woman they both see as a daughter. That journey forced them to put their differences aside and travel to Afghanistan. But as Angela/Emily spent more time in the country, she learned that her real father was actually Faraz Hamzad (Navid Negahban). In the process, she embraced her new identity and discovered her heritage, becoming Parwana Hamzad.

The exciting events presented during The Old Man season 2’s ending, make it absolutely certain that a 3rd season will be required to continue the story, with no concrete resolution on the horizon just yet. Although FX is yet to confirm whether it intends to continue with The Old Man as of now, the makers most definitely have plans to take it further. Season 2’s ending places Emily Chase, brilliantly played by Alia Shawkat, in total control of the situation, even displaying her strength against the character of the veteran Jeff Bridges, Dan Chase. It is seemingly possible that Emily will take center stage in the season that follows, so in this brief article, we’ll discuss the possible fates of the characters we have grown so close to.

FX’s thriller drama series The Old Man finally winds up its 2nd season with a number of explosive developments after an already intense season that took us across the world. Opening in Afghanistan, season 2 of the series took us back to the USA before splitting its characters’ paths between the UK and Hong Kong, as Dan Chase and Harold Harper gave their all to protect Emily Chase, or Angela Adams. The woman, however, assumed her real identity, Parwana Hamzad, in this season and took control of her biological father’s village back in Afghanistan in an effort to protect the villagers. The Old Man season 2 finale, episode 8, resolves each of the plot lines as we learn of the fates of Emily, Harold, and Dan.

That doesn’t mean there wasn’t some resolution in “Xv,” such as former CIA operative Dan Chase (Jeff Bridges) escaping death after girlfriend Zoe (Amy Brenneman) reached him in time to administer an antidote needed to stop a deadly virus he’d been exposed to earlier. Once in a safe house to recover with Zoe watching over him, Chase was also reunited with his presumed-dead daughter Emily (Alia Shawkat), who opened up the story for would make up the show’s third season.

Labels like “comedy” and “drama” are fundamentally meaningless — except when it comes to TV awards, when the distinction can mean the difference between win and lose or a nomination and a snub. That’s why the denizens of Hollywood, eager to buck tradition and format for the sake of art most of the year, tend to lose their shit around Emmy season.
The annual debate resurfaced this past summer when The Bear scored 23 Emmy nominations and broke 30 Rock’s record for the most for a comedy in a single season. The genre, after all, was long-dominated by sitcoms — Frasier being the all-time Emmy with 37 wins, followed closely by The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Cheers. And while there’s no arguing that The Bear is an incredibly well-made piece of television, as evidenced by the eventual 11 wins in a diverse pool of categories, it’s not exactly brimming with levity.

Offscreen, Hollywood icons Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow share a tremendous respect for one another. But onscreen, at least in FX’s fast-paced thriller The Old Man, it’s a different story: There’s a playful animosity between their characters, Dan Chase (Bridges) and Harold Harper (Lithgow), old friends turned enemies turned reluctant partners in what looks like their final mission. Season 2 — which comes to a dramatic conclusion in the October 24th episode — has seen Bridges, 74, and Lithgow, 78, getting beat down and dirtied up and, of course, doing a lot of bickering. “I think there’s always been that kind of friction between them, even though they’ve been inseparable friends in many ways,” Lithgow says. “Just like Jeff and I are very different, I think Chase and Harold are very different, and they rub each other the wrong way. In this case, there are huge stakes involved.” Chuck Hodes/FX Still,...

FX’s action thriller series The Old Man prepares us for its season 2 finale with this week’s episode 7, although it also stretches its plot too thin in the process, making it almost unconvincing. Despite all its attempts to prove otherwise, The Old Man has always been a rather usual American thriller, and so its stretches should not come as a surprise either. The ending of season 2, episode 6, had left Dan Chase poisoned, as he had breathed in some neurotoxin at Nina Kruger’s house and had to let himself be apprehended by the Russians, who had the only antidote. On the other side, Harold Harper had just found out that his ex-wife, Marion, had been involved with Suleyman Pavlovich in some professional manner, and so he naturally started seeking answers in that regard. The Old Man episode 7 deals with both these developments and more, setting up for a grand season finale next week.

Jeff Bridges wasn’t too big a fan of his digitally altered appearance in 2010’s Tron: Legacy.
Speaking on a recent episode of Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, The Old Man actor delved into past projects like Iron Man and The Big Lebowski. As the conversation turned to the 1982 cyberpunk sci-fi pic and modern-day discussions of the role of artificial intelligence in film, Bridges said the Joseph Kosinski sequel featured a still “new” de-aging process via computer scanning — one he didn’t necessarily like.
“I wasn’t particularly fond of that recreation of myself,” he recalled, chuckling. “I thought I looked more like Bill Maher than myself.”
Looking back at Tron, the veteran actor explained that it was a concept that was “so bizarre” at the time, with the film using techniques like black-and-white photography to create its futuristic, neon digital world.
