Maybe this movie should be just called Bad.
Potentially, a good plot, but the movie fails to live up to expectations.
I nearly switched off at the half way point and now wish I had.

Rob cordury is usually very funny. But jesus does his character need to grow some balls. He has no self control and doesnt act in a normal way. Also the characters are very hard to like throughout... wouldnt reccomend.
This was in no way comedic or romantic. It's a drama all the way with some lifetime movie aspects.

Totally not as funny as cast could be. Crazy therapy and none real is the failure of the movie.

I found this movie pretty boring. It just didn't have anything different to really catch your attention. It had a few people that I really loved too so it was pretty disappointing.
The script isn't great the lines they have to deliver are pretty cheese at times.
I also think this is a comedy? But it could have fooled me I'll be honest.
I would probably watch something better that is in this similar vain.

This isn't bad theraphy, this ridiculously bad movie.
I don't understand why someone could waste time and resourses for this trash.
Script is bad, acting even worse.
Seriously- dont waste your time

It's an entertaining movie overall. It moves slowly, and a lot of people with short attention spans won't like that. A lot of the comedy is subtle and/or sarcastic, which I enjoy. Fun fact: There's a blooper in the last scene when the wife is coming into the house through the front door. When she enters there is a cross on the wall by the door. When the camera flashes back to her, the cross is gone.
I imagine this movie got low ratings from people expecting a comedy, and I can see how those people would be disappointed. But the movie does serve fairly well as a drama. It's sort of like Fatal Attraction in the sense that things start off normal with consenting adults. But cracks start to appear in the veneer and chaos ensues. It's not as compelling as Fatal Attraction but it's still relatively entertaining to watch the situation unravel. It's also interesting to see how the trust and vulnerability placed in a therapist can be misplaced and abused and manipulated. So not a great movie but passable in an average way.

Entertainment suited to my taste, perhaps not yours. Alicia was great! The entire movie was fun!

The movie is just so awkward and all over the place. I'm surprised by the cast at the AWFUL acting that was in it. And it wasn't just from one actor. Every single actor in this movie was horrible. It got a couple laughs (awkward, confused laughs) from me simply because I did not understand what the hell I was watching. I can't give it 0 stars I would.
As every other Alicia Silverstone movie, this is boring. Has this women ever done something note worthy, outside Aerosmith music vids and Clueless??
In this instance it's probably not only her fault. She could be naked, and it couldn't saved the movie. The story is just boring and the actors and their everyday life ,just uninteresting. You simply don't care, bout any of them.

This is quite a funny comedy that is unexpected and engages you into the plot. It makes you feel for the married couple! I enjoyed it.
Movie was more of a lame drama than anything else. It wasn't funny at all, it didn't even try to be. If anything it might've moved more to become a thriller.

I chose this movie because I'm a 90's girl that has a soft spot for Alicia silverstone.... And it was billed as a comedy and needed something lighthearted....
W. T. F. Don't waste your time.... terribly written, boring as heck, NOT A COMEDY.... How is this movie even possible... it's laughable and I work in the mental health field. That's all I got to say. And I give it two stars for my soft spot for Alicia...!
I wish I could give this movie more because I hate to give anything such a crap review, but I would be doin go the general population an injustice if I did not mention something.... Watch Idiocracy instead...

With the title "Bad Therapy" as premise you could throw a stick and hit a writer that could make a passible story and with this cast of actors throw another stick and hit a director and make at least a coherent film with some good moments.
But this film supposedly has an entire true story book behind it for structure. Maybe the complete mess that this film is explains why the only evidence of this book anywhere on the internet is the film's claim to be based on it.
The more interesting story here would be the meta of how this film came to be. How do decent actors get involved in a film based on a book that was never allowed to see the light of day? Did they read a script that made sense? Did the script, direction etc. Keep changing throughout the film?
Where the actors sometimes give good performances it's as if they read scripts but got entirely different directing notes and only had one take to get the scene right. One comes in playing the comedy straight man to the other's unhinged Lifetime character, so the scene doesn't function for any type of genre.
So if you want a film that is like 6 different bad films with the same actor spliced together like a really unfunny, undramatic mad lib then this is for you.

The thing that I found most irritating was that I could not understand most of what the therapist said. I tried to lip read but she barely moves her mouth. The sound was off and the background music was louder than the dialog.
I usually like Alicia Silverstone but I am not sure she should be doing or trying to do any form of comedy.
It's just my personal opinion but she doesn't do loud, frustrated mom roles. She's overly animated. I enjoyed her in Catfight and The Killing Of A Sacred Deer.
The plot was weak and had some random twists thrown in that didn't really matter.
If you are having difficulty falling asleep, watch this film but make sure you have the subtitles turned on.

Not a blockkbuster by any means but I found this little movie very entertaining.
Great cast great script great cinematography and very good acting. Alicia Silverstones performance was great and her talent for comic timing really shows here. She was hilarious. The only down fall was the ending. I was expecting a thrill ride but was left feeling a little unsatisfied. Didn't know it was loosely based on a true story untill it was over.
I recommend it if you're happy to watch alicia pull faces for an hour and a half.

Simply repeating the above headline (mainly in case lengthy headlines somehow do not appear there in full) "Workman-Like Writing And Acting, Based On A Plot Seemingly Combining Three- Or Four- Of Shakespeare's Best Efforts".
In essence, this "nine-out-of-10-star" movie depicts a wide range of human weaknesses and strengths, softened and made most enjoyable (plus more easily digestible) by some really broad, Shakespearean-like bawdy humor. And the results prove to be, altogether, relatively great!!

I found Bad Therapy to be laugh-out-loud funny. Yes, it's low budget but it makes clever use of the side of Los Angeles that mainly only locals see. An inordinate amount of drama takes place at an ugly strip mall in West L. A. and that is accurate.
One of the funniest aspects of this film is that women are fighting over this totally average looking, middle-aged bald guy like he's the hottest thing going.
The entire movie is like some terrible inside joke and it's like you either get it or you don't. I realize that is not the same thing as quality film making, but Alicia Silverstone is wonderful and Michaela Watkins is convincingly out of her mind. The teenaged daughter character ties the entire film together, Bad Therapy would be nothing without Anna Pniowsky, a child actress I'd never heard of before.
