I'll admit, I'm not really a fan of anime but this show made an exception. I was fully aware the show was anime but since it's my first time watching Ultraman I decided to give it a chance. The story is pretty good, the fight scenes are fun to watch, good characters and it's overall enjoyable from start to finish. I hope we could get a second season because I do want to see more but we'll see. Overall it's a good show

I really liked it - another boy realisation anime but i like those.
My review is based on jap audio
Some of the voice actors are brilliant! I could listen to that alien all day! (In Japanese)
Genuinely very exciting in places, it's a cool series, superhero based, progressive. Yep.

It is necessary the last episode to appreciate the huge potentiality of the whole story despite of the bad storytelling where the behavior of the characters is not always congruent in their expressions. Another kind of defect deals with dialogues in both the Ultramen and enemies facing them as well, which often appear rather childish and trivially emphasized. The narration involves the main characters always in their Ultramen duties neglecting their ordinary lives almost entirely. Sometimes dialogues suffer from audio alteration and in some rare scene they are completely missed, at least in the transposition of my language. The name of the protagonist is often boring repeated as if the other characters have no importance.
I have to see the last episode again to understand the plot better.

I still have an episode to enjoy. Overall, I liked this series.
The animations are a huge success. They are apparently composed of images from several competing technologies: for instance, the explosions during the fights or the halo of flames enveloping sometimes Ultraman are radically different from the almost-static plans of civilians. This mixture is elegant.
On the other hand, the dialogues, the voices as well as certain plot twists, sometimes quite naive, indicate clearly that the targeted public is rather young, even very young. Not exclusively, but essentially.
Try it... and you might want to adopt it!

Just started watching. It really expands on the original series, which I grew up a big fan of. Really the only problem is that it has little to no humor. Other than that, it's well done.
I'll preface by saying that I've never seen the original Ultraman TV series and only ever seen a single Ultraman movie at a film festival before watching this series.
Overall I enjoyed the show, the story kept be interested from the first episode and the animation style feels like a unique mix of different kinds of CG. The action sequences were better produced than the drama ones where the animation felt clumsy and unnatural. Although I did like this take on the suits, felt reminiscent of the Guyver animated series.
The audio dubbing in English was not very good, and I just got the feeling that the voice actors didn't make the roles their own, just felt amateurish. The subtitles in English were also inconsistent with the dubbing. After watching several scenes from the first episodes with both on, I felt the dialogue of the English dub was more idiomatic, so I decided to go with the dubbing instated of the subtitles for this series. In the end I wouldn't recommend this, the dialogue got overly simplistic with little nuance or depth.. but maybe that would have been the case either way.

The animation is fantastic. The story and dialog could use some help. The intelligence and fighting ability of characters change too drastically for no real reason. I'm not talking about when main character's awakened moment, that I have no problem with.
Im not even a fan of ultraman, never gave it a chance, this show caught my attention from the first episode and I could not stop! So good
Hopefully there's a second season

Ultraman is an iconic hero. The action scenes and special effects are fantastic, however it lacks a solid storyline and motives. In the end, it becomes forgettable because it misses to delivery the passion and heroism of the original Ultraman.

Im 7 episodes in...and I don't know what the story even is yet. I got that that guy used to be ultraman and that when ultraman left he gave the man super human powers.. He then passed those powers down to his son. And They are fighting a robot that looks like ultraman, and some aliens which may or may not be related to this robot. And that is it. that is the whole story.
And of Course the animation blows really hard. You kinda get used to it when they are battling. But when they are just talkin...oh boy does it really stand out at just how bad the animation really is. But the battling is only a very small part of the show...so it mostly looks god awful.

Ultraman shows that GitS SAC S03 is in good hands and Kamiyama is clearly back to his usual form after a one-out with Cyborg 009. IG technically adapted 7,5 volumes in 13 eps. but the story underwent occasionally major changes and streamlining, the revamped female lead is now an real character for example, so pacing isn´t a major issue. This is actually an improvement on the solid source manga and most of the CG work is fairly impressive for a TV budget. Extensive mo-cap was used and is clearly noticeable in the very fluid DMC style action scenes. Sign me up for S02 of this Christopher Nolan/Zack Snyder style gritty reboot of a 60s children show (!?!). This ain´t a complete joke btw. as the next manga arc has a 9/11-ish alien attack on NY.

This is such a formulaic production that it almost feels like a parody of anime. Sadly, it's being played absolutely straight.
The script, characterisation and dialogue feel like they've s written by a teenage boy, and not one from the top of the class. There's nothing strictly wrong with it, it's just absolutely basic "now my son inherits my magical powers and robot suit" exposition, with no flair, passion or self awareness to it.
The voice talent is also strictly workmanlike. They all voice their parts exactly as the genre expects. The best that you can say is that the quality is internally consistent - everybody is phoning it in.
That might be excusable if the animation was outstanding, but stylistically it's a real mess, being entirely CGI that can't seem to decide whether it's trying to emulate cell drawing or not. The colours are flat and untextured, but with complex lighting and soft graduated shadows that come closer to realism.
The animation also appears to be a mash up of some motion captured or hand animated scenes but is mostly a library of stock algorithmic animations like the NPCs in a B-grade console game, with a distracting amount of random swaying around added on top. It looks like it was done by a computer because most of it was.
The result is neither fish nor fowl, and regularly wanders into the uncanny valley.
If you like your anime old school, in the sense of primitive and trite, it might be worth a shot. But we're in a post One Punch Man world now, and really we deserve and should expect better.

Yes, I realize that Ultraman came before Iron Man but this version tries too hard to make the former look like the latter. The original Ultraman suit was beautiful and sleek, there was no creative reason to change it. The suit is not intended to be a bunch of parts stuck on a man. It's intended to be a part of him and move with him like his own skin.

Watched two episodes after which I didn't feel like watching more. The protagonist has the most generic, cookie-cutter look you could imagine for an anime series. The storyline felt quite generic as well, but it wasn't straight out bad, so I'm sure any hardcore anime fan will appreciate this series. The animation is also good, although it's the kind of 3D animation style that will put off some people.
I wouldn't recommend this for anyone looking for that superb 1 in 100 anime series.

Like all foreign anime or film, watching it dubbed ruins in. Trust.
Watch this show and everything else in orignal language with subtitels. Add a star to all the other ratings if they have watched english.

The story itself is ok and the fight scenes splendid. Unfortunately the series is packed with cliches: the exagerated movement of the characters, the yelling during normal dialogues, the love intrest,... Those cliches make you go: really? Can we grow up now?

Gone are the days of pre Power Rangers camera tricks and goofy rubber suits. This version is animated, and beautifully done as well. No more bad lip syncing. I'm enjoying the legacy aspect of the story as well... handing the mantel from father to son. If you are a fan of the old ultraman, guyver, or even the power rangers; give this show a shot!
Decent but out of date animation with grade school dialogue! Fight scenes are the only aspect of this series that can save it. I don't hate it but they just need to give their characters more life and a better story board direction. Stop relying on all the cgi to do all the work. Sometimes less is more! I'm no expert and I sure as hell can't do better but I am a fan of good stories and don't have anything against the people this show has employed.

There are some great homages to the original Ultraman series we all love. Unfortunately it is so poorly animated and stilted that it is darn near unwatchable.

Short i would say 13 episodes of 22 minutes each but everything is amazing graphics, story, fights etc.
Not a fan of the live ultraman movies they look too much like the power rangers but this anime series is amazing.

From the really corny script to the clunky motion-capture animation, it's all a bit cheesy and predictable from the outset. With questionable continuity and lines that sound like they've come out of a superhero phrase book, the whole thing lacks any spark of originality.
I think it would be OK if you were ten years old.

So I'm an old school Ultraman fan. When I was a kid I watched the live action rubber suited Ultraman in the afternoons after school.
I was scrolling through Netflix yesterday and saw this. I'm not a huge anime fan but I thought I would give it a try. And then my son walked in. I'm fifty and he's nine. Now we're five episodes in and we both LOVE it.
Great visuals! I enjoy that they've brought it from when I watched it to modern times. (I got a kick out of the museum and the old school SP uniforms all orange.
It may be nostalgia but I don't care.
