When she was sent the script Carrie-Anne Moss said she loved the story and would be happy to work with Thomas Haden Church and Bruce Dern but that she felt that her character had not been developed enough in the story. She asked if the character could be more fleshed out to help the story and when writers and producers re-imagined the character to fit the challenge, she signed on. Director Mark Lambert Bristol said that this resulted in her character a being much more realistic, dramatic, and heartfelt one.
