Dou Po Cang Qiong is one of my favourites although the main character is a bit like of the main character from Dou Luo Da Lu that the writer stated that he's not from this world. But it still works and I love the story.
In this series, they changed the story a little bit, so, it does give you different feeling. Some are good and some a bit nonsense. As for the one who loves the original story, I'd say it's a bit inferior to the original story. But in this series, it really has funny moments, so, it doesn't make you boring. At least, it's still watchable.
One more thing I don't like is that they make like American series. The one they released in 2018 isn't the whole series. It was just season 1. They will release more and more seasons which make me think that they kind of have intention to make the series longer and longer deliberately which I hate. I get that the original story itself is so long, but it doesn't need to make it this way. So, I kind of worry that the more they make it longer, I might stop watching it.
Because of the variations of the story, I think the animation version is better which is closer to the original story. The actors are basically fine but I can see that they are newbies, so, if they could improve the acting, it'd be better.
All in all, if you like fantasy and romance film, yeah, this series might be a good choice.

Battle Through the Heavens, otherwise known as Fights Break Sphere, is always featured in lists of most watched Chinese dramas (exceeding 20 billion views) and I see how it was able to attract this many viewers. This story about Xiao Yan (Leo Wu), the heir of one of the most powerful clans in Fight Qi Continent, is riveting, full of action, twists and turns.
Xiao Yan is a martial arts genius until he turns 9, when his mother is killed. By the time of his wedding to Nalan clan granddaughter Yanran (Liu Meitong), his skills have deteriorated to such a degree that even his female cousin Xiao Xun'er (Lin Yun) could best him. Yanran's grandfather cancels the engagement and Xiao Yan vows to avenge his family's humiliation as well as his mother's death. He encounters his mother's former teacher, the Medicine Lord Yao Chen (Baron Chen), and finds out why he has been losing his martial arts skills. Under Yao Chen's guidance, he starts to recover.
Xiao Yan enters Jianan Academy with Xun'er. Their adventures in the academy with a group of classmates are engrossing. With the help of Yao Chen and other martial arts teachers, he gains an astounding array of skills that would help him and the rest of the clans battle against evil lord Hun Meisheng whose prominence could usher in darkness throughout the continent.
The main reason I could not give this top marks is because Xiao Yan is rather insouciant about love. There is not one woman he is shown to prefer above others. Up to their confrontation, I have been suspecting he still bore affection for Yanran. Yet he seems to be leading both Xun'er and Ice King daughter Xiao Yixian (Li Qin) on. Faithfulness is one of my requirements for a male lead, so Xiao Yan's attitude is a big turn-off for me. Another turn-off is the ending which begs for a second season.

Great Series! It is unjustly rated low, likely due to some Ao3 bullies who clog the internet with falsehoods and false ratings for no good reason.

If you watch it as a standalone drama series inspired by a novel not based on novel, it is brilliant.
But if you had already read the novel or watched the anime series, and then consider it being based on the novel, it is really bad. The plot seems as if season 2 will be final season with the battle between antagonist and protagonist clearly build up for climax.

"Battle Through the Heavens" is one of my all time favourite donghuas so I was quite looking forward to the show, especially after seeing the beautiful rendition of the live "The Blood of Youth" (from Great Journey of Teenagers). I was sorely disappointed: nothing but a rushed jumble and mash of the original with storylines crossed, ignored and/or butchered, timelines made a nonsense of, opposing sects from different empires all mashed into one, massive black holes in plot, and the characters a lazy, rushed, "budget efficient" bad joke on my iconic heroes - I'll never forgive them for how they portrayed Xiao Yan on the "annulment" day, Hai Bo Dong (from Ice Emperor to merchant clown) and Queen Medusa (if that's who that silly clingy girl brat is; if she's not, I resent the association they made though). I couldn't bear to watch anymore after episode 26 episodes).
If you haven't read the novel or the graphic novel (manhua) or watched the donghua, you might get something out of it; but beware!! If you come from the real thing, the parent story, expecting to enjoy the story in its full integrity, spare yourself the disappointment and watch something else.
I gave it 4 stars out of respect for the actors who aren't to blame for this, pity it didn't fall into more respectful hands to direct it the way it should have gone: onwards and upwards, like a shooting star to dazzle the eyes.
The studio however was given gold and turned it to .. well, you know what..
