A movie trying to tackle psychological issues. We have seen better, more scientific depictions. But you can watch the movie for Dhanush. His acting was so good -- in many scenes he expresses mixed feelings so effectively. Even light scenes in which he cries while laughing due to laughing gas; to the scene in which he expresses love to Sara in Tamil!
Sara can't act. Anand L Rai should have looked for a more expressive heroine, especially in a heroine oriented movie like this. Akshay has done his part well, but anyway nothing much for him to do.
2+ hours of entertainment if you are not expecting anything in depth.

Here is a Bollywood movie which tries to stay away from the beaten path but does so without losing the grip and the result is a nice feel good movie. The concept of the movie is unique with a very interesting twist.
The performances from the all actors especially Dhanush lift the movie Sara plays a very complex character and at times looks out of depth but manages well overall. Akshay is dependable as usual despite a smaller role. The screenplay and direction is good too as the movie doesn't drag much.
And one thing that gives the soul to the movie is the music by A R Rahman. The maestro is in top form here and delivers an outstanding soundtrack that gives the movie a great flavour.
Overall it's a good movie worth a watch.

The 1st half of the movie is exactly what its trailer promised to be and that's why I didn't like it much. I didn't like Sara's acting, unrealistic writing of the characters specially of Dhanush. Only I liked the music which is the biggest plus point of this film. Then suddenly, a twist came and I started to like the film. But, it didn't last long as the storyline was being dragged.
The things I loved the most are - superb acting of Dhanush, Ashish Verma, the core concept of the film & the songs. In my opinion, Sara was given a very strong character but she couldn't do full justice to it. They should've taken a better actor.
Finally, Atrangi Re is really a good movie but it could've been much better.
Available on Disney+ Hotstar.

What worked:
The movie marks a very essential move regarding the mental health issues, and the movie mostly does justice with its added gloried elements. And it does work on the favor. Movie felt fresh also in regards to its narrative. The first act was phenomenal, making it a very watchable piece of work. Rehman's scores are well edited, which makes it a better version of itself. Dhanush deserves an applaud. Sara surprised me, and her casting in the movie is well calculated and needed flavor. The makers made a very pleasant and heartfelt movie, without making it too cliche and also not making it too classy. It's a well written work, well acted and edited piece of work, so we can say it's a well made movie. The overall impact is heartfelt and warm.
What did not work: What stands out is that some plot holes and some needed redrafting in the screenplay. I think it is fine but at the end of the movie , that's something I felt; only if the narratives were slightly cared for. And the movie loses a grip slightly which could have been taken care by cutting down the run time , and crisping it.
Final verdict: if not for the some glitches, it's a great movie which deserves definitely a watch.

This movie brings a rare story with a good cast and fine acting. In simple words, Atrangi Re is way more than being your routine love triangle. A very welcoming change for Bollywood to learn how you can tell an age-old story in so many different ways.

Enjoyable content throughout the whole film. AR Rahman music definitely holds the film. Dhanush, Sara, Akshay played their roles well. Definitely a success for an OTT release!

At face value, 'Atrangi Re' does provide adequate entertainment value and the film holistically has its heart set in the right place. Unlike many other mainstream titles, The humour isn't a complete disappointment here. The emotions do run high and the love story within does work as desired and it's probably the major selling point as well.
Dhanush and Akshay need no introduction, and both of them did exactly what their roles demanded. Therefore, the whole attention shifted elsewhere. Everyone's eyes were on Sarah! And all I can say is that she proved her mettle! Not only did she manage to put herself into the shoes of such a complicated character; she did all that without getting too predictable or clichéd in the process.
On one hand, I do appreciate the makers for trying their hands at something different; on the other hand, I can't help but point out the fact that this particular execution is nowhere near the level of maturity or accountability such delicate topics normally require.
I know and I understand that this film was never meant to spread awareness nor did it have any sort of intention to give out lectures on the said subject. But my point is when you are indulging actively in a conversation about Mental Disorders; you cannot possibly deny your duties & commitments.
In a society like ours, where Mental Issues are still treated as a laughing stock; As filmmakers, don't you guys bear the responsibility of conveying the right kind of message out in the open? But hey what did you do instead? You made a mockery out of it! There were multiple instances, especially in-between character interactions; where I find the ulterior motive to be alarmingly disconcerting and borderline problematic.

With spoilers:
Well! While watching the movie, my heart cried for the fact as knowing mental health patient close and personal and also as having been suffering from PMDD myself from many years, I was sad, hurt and angry that how mental health issue is portrayed so poorly in mainstream Bollywood movie and if we have psychiatrists like that, well certainly patients and their families are doomed. Felt like taking action against movie makers on behalf of psychiatrist community. Funny part is while watching I was certain that there is a twist and said illness is with Dhanush and not Sara.
I had watched 'Kumbalangi nights' a day before I watched 'Atrangi re'. It takes few seconds in Kumbalangi nights for Bobby and Baby's lovestory to start but it showed so beautifully that we start rooting for them from the go. While in atrangi re you are never convinced why exactly Dhanush fall for Sara so much that he was ready to jeopardize his whole life. We are never convinced about them and so it is hard to root for them. Point being after a long time I was watching Bollywood movie with some hopes, but it as usual disappointed.

Here the makers have made good and unusual love story
A very emotional, tender ,soft love story has been presented by ananad rai and fantastically played by sara and dhanush..the movie has all content like emotions, humour, pain, good performances background scores, the only negative in this movie is songs they are not to the mark of rehman..the movie gives you light headed entertainment..the title is perfectly matching to the characters of both dhanush and sara as both are atrangi for their love
Sara and dhanush have played their roles extremely well like real matured stars every single aspect has been covered by both of them like expressions ,emotions , humour ,dialogues etc
You will see a new love story.

Was amaze part of story telling and this answers all critics of why the age gap was there. Actors and their roles were way past their best performances. Someone give this movie some awards please. Why a director like Anand L Rai would cast Sara Ali Khan, I have no idea. This movie would've been soo good if they cast an actress who can actually act. Her crying scenes reminded me of her scenes in Love Aaj Kal 2.
Dhanush was brilliant as always, of course.

This is a short film dragged over for almost 3 hours.
Dhanush is great but rest are all duds. And wtf is Bollywood thinking. Akshay looks like Sarah's grandfather and he has been paired opposite to her.

Atrangi Re is beyond the routine and cliché Bollywood love triangle film. Aanand L Rai's direction is impressive and he delivered this unconventional love story in an exceptional way. The screenplay, dialogues, and cinematography are the major highlight of the film.
The film takes off with a quick introduction of feisty Rinku and calm Vishu. The first half is quite engaging with some funny and emotional scenes. Post-interval the film becomes a little slow-paced but still, it will hold the viewers. Some beautifully penned scenes will make you cry and smile at the same time. The music is apt for the film. A. R. Rahman's music is soulful. The songs aren't there for interrupting the narrative.
Sara Ali Khan is a surprise package here, she delivered an outstanding performance, especially in the second half and climax. She effortlessly played this tough character and shines in every scene. Dhanush has given a remarkable performance once again. He has done complete justice to his character and steals the show when it comes to emotional scenes. Ashish Verma as Vishnu's friend Madhusudhan brings the right dose of humour. Akshay Kumar was impactful in his extended cameo.
Atrangi Re Movie Rating: Direction 3.5/5 Acting 4/5 Music 3.5/5 Story 3/5 Screenplay 3.5/5.

I don't want to say much about this movie because I don't to be a spoiler but this movie is the direction Bollywood should be taking. Amazing performance no Bollywood Faltoo ka drama.
