It was a Night at the Movies on Dancing With the Stars, and fans were in for a real treat!

It’s all too appropriate that Monday’s episode of Dancing With the Stars was dubbed “A Night At the Movies,” because the two-hour broadcast contained some seriously cinematic plot twists.
A couple that earned its first pair of 10s just last Monday was knocked back down into seven-and-eight territory. Len Goodman and Bruno Tonioli were both compelled to take their “six” paddles (!) out of storage for one particularly bad routine. And, after reigning for the past two weeks as the duo to beat, Jordan and Lindsay were bested in the scoring department by another couple.

Lights, camera…it's A Night at the Movies night! Sadly, it wasn't a Hollywood ending for one couple, as Nick Lachey and Peta Murgatroyd, Terrell Owens and Cheryl Burke, and Victoria Arlen and Val Chmerkovskiy (For real?!),found themselves in jeopardy. And the couple to leave the competition? Nick and Peta. "I enjoyed it," the 98 Degrees...

Nancy Kerrigan received nines from the four judges on Dancing With the Stars during "A Night at the Movies," but the nearly perfect score wasn't enough to save her and partner Artem Chigvintsev. The duo were sent home in a double elimination with Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd as the competition reaches the homestretch. Despite the shock, Nancy said she's taking a lot away from the series. After seven weeks of intensive rehearsals and dedicated effort, Nick Viall was eliminated from Dancing With the Stars on Monday after delivering one of his best performances of the season.
The former Bachelor and his pro partner, Peta Murgatroyd, earned one of their highest scores during the DWTS A Night At the Movies Week, with an Argentine tango set to David Guetta's "Dangerous." However, the night also ended with the season's first double elimination, and Viall found himself going home along with Olympic figure skater Nancy Kerrigan.

Monday's Dancing With the Stars celebrated show business with its fun A Night at the Movies week, where each couple based their solo dances on film genres. However, in the spirit of Hollywood drama, this week also saw the season's first double elimination, meaning two stars and their pro-partners were sent packing.
After all the routines had been danced and all the scores and votes weighed and measured, three couples found themselves in jeopardy: David Ross and Lindsay Arnold, Nick Viall and Peta Murgatroyd, as well as Nancy Kerrigan and Artem Chigvintsev.
Surprisingly, Ross and Arnold were spared from getting the axe, meaning Viall and Kerrigan were cut from the competition. For Viall, the elimination was a long time coming, as he had often expressed his surprise at not getting sent home earlier.
However, Kerrigan's elimination was somewhat surprising, considering her record of solid performances week after week. She was at...

On that same note, last week, screenwriter Alex Kurtzman sat down with iamROGUE and talked briefly about the unanswered questions raised by "The Amazing Spider-Man" and how the sequel addresses them.

"Dahling, don't forget the opera glasses, and do put on a tie. If we're going to watch Will Smith battle zombie ex-presidents for control of the White House, we need to look quite fetching."

In the TCM special "A Night at the Movies: Hollywood Goes to Washington," debuting Friday (Oct. 5), writer-producer-director Laurent Bouzereau -- whose documentaries about the making of films appear on the home-video releases of many classics, from "Lawrence of Arabia" to "Jaws" -- compiles scenes from numerous movies with political bents, from James Stewart in "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" to Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman in "All the President's Men."
"It's not so much to make a statement, but to really tie in with the political season, absolutely," Bouzereau confirms to Zap2it of the program's timing. "Some of the people I've interviewed say, 'Everything is political.' Costa-Gavras, the great director of movies like 'Z' and 'State of Siege,'...

As the nation prepares for the upcoming election, TCM rolls out a month-long program of classic films on politics, as well as the newly produced one-hour special "A Night at the Movies: Hollywood Goes to Washington," featuring interviewees Oliver Stone, Rob Reiner and many more talking about the treatment of politics in cinema, and examining films on political campaigns and (close to Stone's heart) conspiracies. The special premieres on Friday, October 5 at 8pm Eastern time. The series programming includes two Frank Capra classics, "Mr. Smith Goes to Washington" and "Meet John Doe," starring Jimmy Stewart and Gary Cooper respectively, and, of course, Alan J. Pakula's paranoid masterpiece and politics-journalism hybrid "All the President's Men." A few notable films are missing from the list, including John Frankenheimer's "The Manchurian Candidate" and, oddly, Stone's "JFK." Toh-ers, as...

At Ben’s, at last. The woman, the doll, and the painting above them—framed by the green (velvet?) curtains—telegraph Frank’s entrance. They are a tightly composed grouping in an open frame, whose curtains anticipate the vaudeville show which is about to unfold, complete with Ben’s lip-synched performance of “In Dreams,” some stock violence, and a running gag that features Jeffrey as the butt of a joke he does not understand.
Ben’s apartment is an anarchy of crossed signals and mental jump cuts. The year after Blue Velvet’s release, Robert Coover’s story collection A Night at the Movies, or, You Must Remember This was published. It includes a story, “Lap Dissolves,” that uses the idea of cinematic transitions as an organizing principle at the sentence level, and begins:

Chaos at the precinct and Castle (Nathan Fillion) comments the "full moon brings out all the crazies." They've got "madness, mayhem now all they need is" murder. Which they get. A husband finds his wife, Ashley's body at the office. Castle again mentions those science shows, where they can build a bird's eye view of what the fish saw from the tank. Lanie (Tamala Jones) wears a dress which opens Castle's eyes and he can't stop staring and it ain't at the dress either. There are words written on the Vic's face and Castle also adds the killer didn't have any sense of grammar. That "who or whom would be tougher to use" but not 'your' and you're'. The killer also murdered the English language. Jason (Brennan Elliott) claims to be at a game and Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Ryan (Seamus Dever) have another murder to deal with. Ryan...

It’s more than an hour ‘til show time and the ticketholder tent outside the 1,270-seat Eccles Theatre, the Grand Théâtre Lumière of Sundance, is bursting at the seams for Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s hitRECord: A Night at the Movies. Thus, the less punctual attendees are forced to brave the heavy snow and form a long line wrapping around the theatre. Judging by the high volume of beanies, as well as girls dragging their boyfriends around like disgruntled parents, the crowd is skewing very young—save a handful of older men who look like Julian Schnabel.

Happy Early Halloween: Turner Classic Movies launches a month-long series of Monday night horror marathons with the special A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King (8/7c), an enjoyable survey of the genre by one who knows. "Terror is something that lives in the head whereas the reaction we have to horror is ... visceral," the prolific author explains during a discussion of The Exorcist, one of many seminal movies featured here, including the original Cat People, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Night of the Living Dead and, of course, Halloween. Bela Lugosi's Dracula, however, never impressed the King: "To me, he looked like some kind of wacked-out concert pianist." Tonight's lineup of spooky classics includes the original 1931 Frankenstein and the notorious Freaks, plus in the wee hours the silent masterpieces Cabinet of Dr. Caligari, Nosferatu and Lon Chaney's Phantom of the Opera.

Our favorite time of the year, Halloween time is only about 6 weeks away!
Seems hard to believe doesn’t it? That don’t make it any less true and to prove it is so Turner Classic Movies today sent out word about their Oct. line up of classic horror films and it’s a keeper.
Kicking the whole thing off will be a brand new documentary titled The Horrors Of Stephen King. Here’s what they say it’s all about:

We can always depend on Turner Classic Movies to give us a reason to stay up late on Halloween, but this year is going to be special. TCM has commissioned a documentary called A Night at the Movies: The Horrors of Stephen King from filmmaker Laurent Bouzereau, and it sounds like quite a (trick or) treat.
Bouzereau's new film will feature King talking about the horror flicks that have most influenced him and his writing. TCM promises the best-selling master of horror will take us on "a journey through many aspects of the horror genre, including vampires, zombies, demons and ghosts."
Among the movies that King will cover are acknowledged classics including Cat People, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Night of the Living Dead and Halloween — and, yes, he'll be discussing the original versions. (It's sad that I had to make that distinction, isn't it?)

Let's all take a moment to wish "Avatar" architect James Cameron a big old happy 56th birthday today. Somewhere in the midst of prepping his "Avatar" novel, exec producing Guillermo del Toro's "At the Mountains of Madness" and any number of other movie-related happenings, he's found the time to fly off to Russia's Lake Baikal -- the deepest freshwater lake in the word -- where he'll spend the day at around 900 fathoms. Unless the weather is off, in which case he will "be getting drunk with the Russian crew in the port."
I like Cameron's style.
Now I'm left wondering what the visionary filmmaker will do to top this epic freshwater birthday dive in years to come. You all know what that means, right? It's list time!

This one's so obvious that my dog knew it would make the list. Let's be serious: it's only a matter...

Here comes round no. 3 of favorite episodes. My esteemed colleagues Rick and Hanh have picked their favorites and they each took considerable time preparing their list. I laughed at that -- until I sat down to do mine and it became a four-days-long project.
Here were my personal parameters for the list: 1. Each show could only have one episode on the list. 2. I would not repeat my colleagues' choices, which was particularly hard with "Buffy" and "Veronica Mars," as my top picks have been spoken for. 3. A two-parter counts as one slot on my list. My list, my rules. 4. There was a limit of 10.
Why a limit? Because my initial list had 22 entries and I realized I was basically just listing my favorite shows and then picking good episodes. I had to be more disciplined! The 12 I took off (for a variety of reasons) became "honorable mentions" of a sort.
