A scene taking place in late July 1873 shows a newspaper reporting on the election of a new governor in Texas, but that election didn't take place until early December 1873.
In some scenes, shots cut between those filmed on location and those obviously shot in a studio. This is especially noticeable at the cowboy camp where Cole and Kit are working. Long and medium shots are done on location, but close-up shots are done in a studio - even the covered wagons in the background are different and vegetation has been moved in around the wagons to block sight lines into the distance.
