Exclusive: The novel Next to Heaven hit the market this week. Written by Anonymous, it’s a social satire that is being shopped by WME simultaneously for both a publishing deal and a TV deal. The TV deal has just closed, and the publishing deal will be next.
The rights to turn the book into a TV series were snapped up by former Agbo and Chernin executive Mike Larocca and Michael Schaefer for their as yet-unnamed production venture. They will produce with Entertainment 360’s Guymon Casady (Game of Thrones). Schaefer most recently ran New Regency and produced The Martian.
So, who is Anonymous?
Deadline sniffed out that it is James Frey, known for A Million Little Pieces and many other literary works. Actually, this was not like cracking the case of the Lindbergh Baby Kidnapping. Lit scouts who read the novel quickly deciphered the mystery. Frey has a way...

Roger Kastel, the artist behind the famed “Jaws” poster of a leviathan lurking underneath a swimmer, has died at the age of 92 from heart and kidney failure.
The unforgettable image was originally used as the cover for the paperback version of the Peter Benchley novel that the movie was based on; it was later appropriated by the movie’s promotional and marketing campaign.
The original hardcover artwork featured a much smoother, less menacing-looking shark. Kastel gave it some teeth.

Jackie Collins created a literary empire and attracted millions of fans with her stories of empowered women who successfully navigate the world of the “rich and famous.” They had fabulous hair, fabulous sex and fabulous lives.
Critics hated Collins’ novels, dismissing the author as “the queen of trash.” But that’s deeply unfair. Books like “Hollywood Wives,” “Lady Boss” and “The Stud” helped define a certain kind of 20th century feminism, one that saw Collins’ heroines thriving in board rooms, back lots and executive suites, spaces that had previously been dominated by men.
“Lady Boss: The Jackie Collins Story,” a new documentary from CNN Films, traces the author’s career and meteoric rise to the top of the best-seller lists, while also revealing the personal struggles that shaped her work. To tell that intimate story, director Laura Fairrie drew on Collins’ home videos and diaries, and interviewed her children, close friends and sister,...

There is a riveting moment in “Lady Boss,” an insightful documentary about the life of novelist Jackie Collins, in which we see Collins preparing her face for the camera. She brushes her bangs a bit with her finger as if to give herself something positive to do, but there is turmoil going on behind her eyes; it looks like she is struggling to hold down enormous pain and insecurity, and this struggle is intensely active, for there was nothing passive about Collins.
Once the camera is ready for her, Collins has arranged her face into the semi-snarly made-up armor that she presented in her glamorous public life, which always included large hair, shoulder pads and a liking for leopard-print fabric. Collins was English, but her books were very successful in America because she subscribed religiously to the American urge for self-reinvention.

When he won the role of Hannibal Lecter in 1991’s The Silence of the Lambs, Anthony Hopkins was just about done with Hollywood.
Movie gigs had dried up for the Welshman, whose résumé at the time included the 1985 miniseries Hollywood Wives, based on the Jackie Collins novel. While he had worked in psychological terror before, playing a deranged ventriloquist in 1978’s Magic, Hopkins’ forte was primarily period drama; he was not an obvious choice for the cannibalistic serial killer.
Still, director Jonathan Demme “got a bee in my bonnet,” as he later put it, about casting Hopkins: “...

Joan Collins in 'The Bitch': Sex tale based on younger sister Jackie Collins' novel. Author Jackie Collins dead at 77: Surprisingly few film and TV adaptations of her bestselling novels Jackie Collins, best known for a series of bestsellers about the dysfunctional sex lives of the rich and famous and for being the younger sister of film and TV star Joan Collins, died of breast cancer on Sept. 19, '15, in Los Angeles. The London-born (Oct. 4, 1937) Collins was 77. Collins' tawdry, female-centered novels – much like those of Danielle Steel and Judith Krantz – were/are immensely popular. According to her website, they have sold more than 500 million copies in 40 countries. And if the increasingly tabloidy BBC is to be believed (nowadays, Wikipedia has become a key source, apparently), every single one of them – 32 in all – appeared on the New York Times' bestseller list. (Collins' own site claims that a mere 30 were included.) Sex...

Let’s just get one thing out on the table. It’s obvious, but worth noting that celebs — whether they’re movie stars, supermodels, Hollywood wives, reality personalities or some combination of the three — are very careful not to do anything that would jeopardize having a perfect body. Plainly speaking, they’re terrified of gaining weight. Cellulite and muffin tops are not on the menu! So, it’s always a surprise to us when we see A-list moms with more than two children. In celeb circles, that’s a downright enormous family — Duggars-enormous. And triple the amount of working-out to get their bodies back in red carpet shape.

For some reason I get at least four emails each week from VH1 Press telling me all sorts of exciting news about the network that I haven't actually seen since I last watched Pop Up Video reruns while doing homework in 1998. It's rather inexplicable, not because I don't get a ton of pointless trade news to my Pajiba email but because I get this to my private email account. It is the only trade news I get to that email account. And I felt that eventually I needed to share with you. Because I'm a giver.
Some of this news is past due (i.e. advertising episodes that have since aired) but I know that it doesn't matter. Just because the train wreck isn't on the side of the road anymore doesn't mean the pictures aren't still astonishing.

Gwyneth Paltrow, Kellie Pickler and Miranda Lambert also didn't disappoint fashion-wise at Wednesday's show.

Some of country music's finest walked the carpet at the 2010 Cma Awards on Wednesday night, rocking styles that were definitely Nashville glam and even some that were Hollywood chic.
Proving she's growing into quite a stunning woman, Taylor Swift looked red hot, literally, on the carpet in her strapless Monique Lhuillier red gown, complete with thigh-high slit. But she kept the look charmingly Swift with dangling diamond earrings and her signature curls swept back.
Carrie Underwood, who served as the night's host, went big on the carpet. Her slate gray Talbot Runhof gown certainly made a statement with its abundance of tulle ruffles. Her pal Kellie Pickler went the more traditional Nashville fashion route, donning a gold sequined gown by Pamella Roland that...

Well, well, well. Isn't this what we've all been waiting for with baited breath?
First of all, no Beverly Hills babe would ever stoop to being called a housewife. How plebeian. How gauche. Hollywood wives please, far more glamorous! And I should know, since I wrote the book about the sleek, groomed, ambitious, social-climbing wives of Hollywood icons. But let's examine the women in question on this new Housewives franchise. They might be affluent, pretty (with a definite nod to various surgical procedures), but do they represent Beverly Hills? They sure give it a big try.
First off, there's Kim and Kyle Richards, sisters who were once child actresses and whose current claim to fame is that they are Paris Hilton's aunts...

Cele|Bitchy shared cel phone bikini pics of Demi Moore. Gawker, where I first saw these photos in a clueless* article on John Travolta, suggests that Demi is starring in her own real life adaptation of Benjamin Button.
But I think what we're looking at is a Countess Elizabeth Bálthory situation. This 47 year old superlebrity is obviously bathing in the blood of virgins.
I still haven't had an opportunity to see Julie Delpy's horror/bio/period film version of this tale, The Countess. None of the confusing and rare reports of the other film version (the one supposedly featuring Tilda Swinton) seem to give me much hope that it's actually not an elaborate internet delusion. But obviously this story should be able to resonate in our youth obsessed age where 50 is the new 40 and 40 is the new 30 and every single pitch meeting on the West Coat involves vampires.

Veteran singer Paul Anka has stepped up his bitter divorce battle with estranged wife Anna Aberg - he's suing her for defamation in a dispute over their prenuptial agreement. Anka filed for divorce in December 2009 following a heated argument outside their California home over the dismissal of a family maid.
The star has now filed suit against Anna, claiming she implied to reporters that he had forged her signature on their prenuptial after previously proclaiming not to have signed a financial deal prior to their 2008 wedding. Anka goes on to allege she only married him to boost her own profile in a bid to "get herself a television show".
Anna later appeared on reality show "Swedish Hollywood Wives". She reportedly defamed the singer/songwriter while promoting the TV program. Anka is suing for libel and slander, alleging his estranged wife "deliberately and maliciously spread false and defamatory statements regarding Paul to the Swedish press.

Paul Anka has just raised the stakes in his bitter divorce -- he just filed a defamation case against his estranged wife, Anna Anka. The defamation is interesting, but the backstory is riveting. Among other things, Paul claims Anna didn't marry Paul out of love -- he claims Anna's real intent "may have been to leverage Paul's celebrity status to get herself a television show." And a TV show she got -- "Swedish Hollywood Wives.

Paul Anka has filed for divorce from his wife, Anna. The singer was involved in an alleged domestic dispute at the couple's home in Thousand Oaks, California. He filed for divorce from his second wife the same day. Two 911 calls were made from the home in the morning and sheriff's deputies from Ventura County responded. Both husband and wife had reached out to police. Anna is the star of a reality series in her native Sweden, which translated is titled Swedish Hollywood Wives. They have a son Ethan, four. They are also raising a child of hers from a former relationship and had been married for a year and a half. Anka said...
