Starring Richard Madden and Priyanka Chopra Jonas, this spy series is described as “an expansive and groundbreaking global event comprising a mothership series and several local language satellite series.” This means that the Russo Brothers-produced project will eventually feature several spinoffs in multiple countries and languages around the world. Neat-o!

Blue Bloods is ready to kick off Season 13 in a wild way.
CBS has revealed the official synopsis for the drama’s premiere on October 7, which promises some unique storylines.
A major one is Frank and Archbishop Kearns (Stacy Keach) going “undercover” to see how the city works. That may end up putting them in danger.
Meanwhile, Eddie and Jamie take on a domestic violence case only to run right into an investigation by Danny and Baez that can cause some conflict.
Also, Erin is preparing for her run for Manhattan District Attorney, which coincides with a reunion with ex-husband Jack.
On top of all that, Joe Hill will be back as the drama prepares for another great year of the fun fans expect.

New Europe Film Sales is handling sales at the Cannes Market, alongside Un Certain Regard title “Godland,” Berlinale premieres “Beautiful Beings” and “A Piece of Sky,” as well as two other animations, “The Peasants” and “Yuku and the Himalayan Flower.”

The BBC is planning to move £700 million ($977M) in spending and hundreds of jobs outside of London as the corporation bids to better reflect the UK’s nations and regions after being criticized by government ministers for having a “narrow urban outlook.”
The BBC’s so-called ‘Across The UK’ strategy was announced to employees on Thursday morning, and is being touted by BBC top brass as one of the most radical reorganizations of the broadcaster in its nearly 100-year history.
The changes are partly motivated by political pressure, but they are also aimed at heading off existential threats. The BBC is facing unprecedented competition from big-spending streamers like Netflix, but thinks they don’t do a great job of representing the UK. The BBC wants to dominate in telling British stories and in turn ensure that audiences are prepared to continue paying for the license fee.

Edward Norton’s second ever film as director – he previously helmed the critically acclaimed romantic comedy Keeping the Faith in 2000 – almost didn’t see the light of day. A passion project which has been almost two decades in the making, Motherless Brooklyn offers another chance for Norton to showcase his peerless acting chops as well as his writing and producing abilities.
Adapted from Jonathan Lethem’s 1999 novel of the same name, this ambitious hard-boiled neo-noir tells the story of a lonely private detective afflicted with Tourette’s Syndrome who attempts to solve a murder and finds himself implicated in a political scandal in the process.
Although the book is set in contemporary times, Norton took the bold decision to set his film in the 1950s because he felt that the premise and dialogue lent themselves to an old fashioned hard-boiled story. However, this didn’t stooped him from broaching a...

Hawk Koch has had an interesting life to say the least, one as Howard W. Koch Jr., son of famous producer and industry heavyweight Howard W. Koch, and another that started with his Bar Mitzvah at age 50 and a new name, Hawk, that liberated him and enabled him for the first time in his life to forge his own identity away from his father’s.
As the producer or executive producer of numerous films including The Idolmaker, Primal Fear, Gorky Park, Wayne’s World, The Pope of Greenwich Village, The Long Walk Home, Keeping The Faith and many more, Koch has had a long, successful career. For nearly two decades, Edward Norton has been trying to realize his passion project — a film version of Jonathan Lethem’s landmark 1999 novel Motherless Brooklyn. Now the film is here, sporting a few signs of artistic struggle, but nonetheless an ardent and ambitious triumph for writer-producer-director-star Norton. You might think multi-hyphenate Norton would err on the side of hat-in-hand faithfulness in adapting Lethem’s bestseller about an unlikely New York private detective with Tourette syndrome. Not the case. Norton has moved the novel’s 1990s setting backwards to 1957 (yup, the...

“It’s efficient. My conversations with myself go very smoothly,” joked Edward Norton about writing, directing, producing and starring in the detective noir “Motherless Brooklyn.” He discussed the film with press and industry on Friday, October 11, at the New York Film Festival, where it was the closing night selection. Watch his complete press conference along with co-stars Willem Dafoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw above.
“Motherless Brooklyn” is set in 1950s New York City, where a private eye with Tourette syndrome (played by Norton) tries to unravel a political conspiracy at the highest levels of the city’s government. It’s based on the 1999 novel by Jonathan Lethem, which Norton had heard about even before it was released. “Nothing more high-minded than the greedy actor in me was like, ‘Ooh let’s check that out,'” and when Norton “chased it down” he was “very taken with this character he had written:...

Three-time Oscar nominee Edward Norton does not think small. After years of uncredited rewriting and editing room consulting (“American History X”), he directed “Keeping the Faith” in 2000. And over nine years of trying to make an adaptation of Jonathan Lethem’s 1999 novel “Motherless Brooklyn”, which he wrote and produced, he decided to direct himself in the ambitious drama, which launched in Telluride and Toronto to upbeat reviews and closes the New York Film Festival on Friday. Whatever happens to this movie, it’s Norton’s baby.
At age 50, Norton is always in demand as a canny character actor, but it took nine years to develop, finance and produce “Motherless Brooklyn,” because he wanted to take the helm of a smart, ambitious drama for adults that evokes 50s period film noir New York, complete with a dissonant jazz soundtrack. Whether smarthouse crowds are ready to go there with him remains to be seen.

Jonathan Lethem’s 1999 novel “Motherless Brooklyn” combined the classic potboiler ingredients of a Dashiell Hammett yarn with contemporary postmodern flourishes. For his long-gestating adaptation, Edward Norton takes the material at face value, transplanting the story to a period-appropriate ‘50s milieu, resulting in a sturdy old-fashioned detective story with a lot on its mind. Above all else, it’s carried by the actor-director’s distinctive leading role, as a wandering investigator with Tourette’s Syndrome; his affection for the material comes through with a poignant performance and a sharp, expressionistic mood. Drop the occasional Thom Yorke composition and an all-too-resonant theme about urban gentrification, and this Warner Bros. crime caper wouldn’t look too out of place in the era it takes place.

Julie Huntsinger, who is co-director of the Telluride Film Festival , opened Friday night’s World Premiere screening of Edward Norton’s Motherless Brooklyn by saying that she and her co-director Tom Luddy thought it was like something they hadn’t seen in a long while and labeled it flatly a “masterpiece”. That’s a lot to live up to , but Norton’s movie is indeed an extremely impressive one , particularly since he pulled an Orson Welles and stars, directs, writes, and produces it.
This is only his second time behind the camera and it has somehow taken 19 years for the urge to kick in again . In 2000 he directed a film I loved and thought was way underrated, Keeping The Faith. Colorado’s Telluride Film Festival, part of the late-summer trifecta of such cinematic binges — including those in Venice and Toronto– that officially kick off awards season each year, has revealed its slate of titles. The festival’s 46th year officially starts on Friday Aug. 20 and ends Monday Sept. 2.
Among the the must-see movies is “Marriage Story,” filmmaker Noah Baumbach‘s portrait of a broken marriage and the bitter and twisted process of dissolving such a union. The film already premiered at the Venice International Film Festival to passionate raves for both its writer/director as well as stars Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson.
The much-anticipated high-altitude world premieres include director Rupert Goold‘s “Judy,” with Renee Zellweger (see above) bringing to life Judy Garland in the last few weeks of her life while doing a run of sold-out concerts in London in 1969 — the year of her death from an accidental...

The trailer for Edward Norton’s Jonathan Lethem adaptation “Motherless Brooklyn” has arrived and, fun fact for Radiohead fans, it features a new Thom Yorke song that is achingly good. Norton’s latest directorial effort — which he recently likened to “Chinatown” — trails lonely private eye Lionel Essrog (Norton), who’s afflicted with Tourette’s Syndrome, as he tries to solve the murder of his mentor and only friend, Frank Minna, played by Bruce Willis.
The rest of the cast is a bounty of riches, with co-stars Leslie Mann, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Michael Kenneth Williams, Alec Baldwin, Bobby Cannavale, Fisher Stevens, and Cherry Jones. Norton has been sitting on the script since 2012, with the director/writer/star being attached to the project as early as two decades ago, when Lethem’s crime novel was published in 1999. While the novel is set in modern day, Norton opted to set his take in the 1950s.

It’s been nearly two decades since Edward Norton first got behind the camera, for his 2000 directorial debut Keeping the Faith, but this fall his long-gestating passion project will finally be brought to screens. Norton has been trying to do his take on Jonathan Lethem’s novel Motherless Brooklyn even before his last film got off the ground and it will now get a strong festival bow, playing at Tiff, Nyff, and likely Telluride. Ahead of the debut, Warner Bros. have now released the first trailer.
Starring Norton, Willem Dafoe, Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Leslie Mann, Bobby Cannavale, Fisher Stevens, and Cherry Jones, the story follows a private investigator with Tourette syndrome who works to solve the mystery of his mentor’s murder. Rather than being set in the 1990s as the novel, the crime story is now reimagined to the 1950s.

The 2019 New York Film Festival has announced that the annual festival will close out with Edward Norton’s “Motherless Brooklyn.” The Warner Bros. drama will celebrate its New York premiere at Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall on Friday, October 11. The film will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival next month, and Warner Bros. will release it in theaters on November 1. As was previously announced this week, Martin Scorsese’s “The Irishman” will open the festival and Noah Baumbach’s “Marriage Story” will serve as its centerpiece selection.

It’s been almost 20 years since actor Edward Norton stepped behind the camera for his directorial debut, “Keeping the Faith.” Since then, he’s gone on to continue his great acting roles (even popping up in a Marvel movie), but has yet to flex those directing muscles again. However, that’s going to change this fall with the upcoming film “Motherless Brooklyn.” And if you’re lucky enough to be attending this year’s New York Film Festival, Norton’s latest film has been selected as the prestigious event’s closing film.

The O’My’s have been a band for more than a decade, shuffling through many members and releasing a fair amount of music in the process. Busy Beaver | In bed after her tryst with Adam, Rachel freaks. “This was a huge mistake,” she mutters, pulling on her clothes and skedaddling to her bunk, where Jeremy fell asleep waiting for her. When she wakes him up, he’s very cuddly and kissy, inviting her to spend the night at his place which — apropos of nothing — looks like it was decorated by Beauty and the Beast‘s Gaston. The minute they get there, Rachel asks for a shower, so eager is she to wash Adam off her. Of course, she and Jeremy get it on in there while the water’s flowing. Two guys in about as many hours? If you want, Rach, I’ve got some Aquaphor you can use — y’know, to help with the chafing.
The next day, Rachel tells a besotted Adam that she “just had to get you out of my system,” but the way she completely gives herself over to another kiss in the vineyard’s greenhouse belies her words. “Anna and Grace, it’s just fiction,” the Brit murmurs. “With you and me, we have something real.” And boy, do they — even the hothouse flowers in the background are fanning themselves for a little relief.
Still, Rachel insists on telling anyone who’ll listen — including Everlasting‘s bachelor himself and Quinn — that Jeremy is the guy for her and that they’re thinking of leaving the show for good. Meanwhile, Adam takes the competition’s remaining three contestants on dates at his vineyard: horseback riding with Grace, demolition (heh) with Faith and hot-air ballooning with Anna. Turns out, even Faith wants in on the Royal Renovations spinoff: If Adam picks her, she pitches, he can sleep around as much as he wants, and her “friend” Amy can come visit San Francisco and see that there are places where gay people live their lives out in the open. The offer is sweet and a little sad, and of course Adam good-naturedly sends her packing at that week’s elimination ceremony. Bye Faith. Your goofball charm really grew on me.
Next, Adam has to pick his overnight date, and he goes with Anna. Rachel just happens to find herself in the edit bay, where she’s not supposed to watch Adam and the blonde engaging in a bit of how’s your father, but she totally does — and is irked by it — then lies to Jeremy about what’s going on when he nearly catches her.
Photos Cancelled Too Soon: Deadwood, Smash, My So-Called Life, Selfie, Firefly and 25 Other Shows We’ll Always Miss
Payback’S A Quinn | What’s going on with Quinn in the meantime, you ask? She tells Chet — who has no clue she saw Madison doing a very special job for him in the last episode — that she has to go see a gynecologist in Los Angeles… but instead, she’s meeting with Brad the Network Executive. Waving the flash drive, which we learn contains eight years of show ideas she hasn’t shared with Chet, Quinn appeals to Brad’s need for a new hit: Cut Chet out of the equation, and she’ll deliver something amazing. He’s intrigued, so they make a plan for her to pitch him series in the near future.
Back on the set, Quinn corners Madison and asks what went down (appropriate choice of words!) between her and Chet. “One thing led to another, and his penis was right there, staring at me!” the flustered Pa says. In less time than it takes me to order at the Taco Bell drive-through window (extra mild sauce, please!) , Quinn gets the young woman to agree to press sexual harassment and assault charges against the show creator. Damn, that woman is efficient in her bitchery.

Sex, Lies And Videotape | Next order of business is to call Rachel to her office and offer her a partnership in Quinn’s new media company, the one she’s going to start as soon as she leaves Chet and Everlasting. Rach is flattered but turns her boss down, saying, “I just don’t want to be a woman whose life is this.” Stung, Quinn mocks her producer’s desire to leave the show and settle down with Jeremy, but Rachel doesn’t care… until Quinn stumbles upon the bedroom footage of Rach’s very naked British Invasion.
Unlike many of you thought, Rachel never intended for the sex tape to be seen — a cloth covering the camera fell off, unnoticed by her and Adam — and so she begs Quinn not to show it to Jeremy. The Ep agrees, under the condition that Adam agree to marry either Anna or Grace and Rachel come to work for her.

Birdman star to receive Excellence Award.
Us actor, director and producer Edward Norton is to attend the 68th Locarno Film Festival (Aug 5-15), where he will be awarded the Excellence Award Moët & Chandon.
Norton will also participate in an on-stage conversation with festival attendees at Locarno’s Spazio Cinema (Forum). The tribute will include the screening of a selection of films from his career.
Previous recipients of the honour include Susan Sarandon, John Malkovich, Michel Piccoli, Isabelle Huppert, Gael García Bernal and, in 2014, Juliette Binoche and Giancarlo Giannini.
Carlo Chatrian, the festival’s artistic director, said of Norton: “He is someone who has shown immense talent in giving shape to characters as fascinating and complex as the times in which we live.”
Norton has been Oscar nominated three times from his screen debut in Primal Fear (1996) to American History X (1998) and most recently Birdman (2014).

I’m not sure what exact moment in Birdman it occurred to me that we were in the midst of a great Edward Norton Renaissance. Maybe it was when the walls of self-professed artistic integrity that his character Mike Shiner wears came crashing down in the face of Sam (Emma Stone), revealing the tragedy and isolation in his existence. Maybe it was when Mike was so in the moment as an actor, he wanted to have live sex on stage. Or maybe it was just the sight of Norton in a speedo wrestling with Michael Keaton. Either way, I finished that movie with the realization that we are in the midst of a rebirth of Edward Norton.
There was a time when Edward Norton was arguably the best actor on the planet. Just look at his filmography from 1996-2006, and count the number of classics he’s a part of.

Edward Norton hasn’t been nominated for an Oscar in fifteen years — since 1999’s lead actor nomination for American History X — but his supporting role in Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) may result in a third Oscar nomination for the actor.
The film stars Michael Keaton as a washed-up actor trying to reclaim his glory by writing, directing and starring in a Broadway show. Norton costars as Mike, an arrogant actor who has been cast in the play. The New York Times’ Manohla Dargis said Norton was “pitch-perfect, perfectly cast.” The Hollywood Reporter’s Todd McCarthy described Norton as “crackerjack as the bad boy actor whose gigantic ego does constant battle with equally large insecurities.”
Norton told NPR, “I think it was one of the most creatively satisfying experiences I’ve had — and I think it’s an incredibly audacious and very rare movie.

Stars: Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim Robbins, Josh Gad, Alecia ‘Pink’ Moore, Patrick Fugit | Written by Stuart Blumberg, Matt Winston | Directed by Stuart Blumberg
Stuart Blumberg, writer of Keeping the Faith, The Kids are All Right and The Girl Next Door, took to the director’s chair for the first time here, with Thanks for Sharing, a story of sex addiction starring the likes of Mark Ruffalo, Gwyneth Paltrow, Tim Robbins, Josh Gad, Alecia ‘Pink’ Moore and Patrick Fugit. It’s a decent cast and Blumberg is a very good writer, so I was interested to see how he faired as a director, and how this mish-mashed, though very good, cast would do under his guidance.
Ruffalo plays Adam, a guy who we meet as he is celebrating his fifth year in sex addiction sobriety. His sponsor, and friend, Mike (Robbins) is also an addict who is juggling his job,...

While Alan Ball has been better known in recent years for his TV shows -- True Blood, Six Feet Under and Banshee -- the writer/producer is shifting back to feature work for I Am Chippendales, which may include Ben Stiller among its stars. Stiller (Heavy Weights) is in talks to star in the film, which is said to be a "true-life story of how the male dance club became one of the most famous adult entertainment shows in the world." If Magic Mike has taught us anything, it's that there's an audience for movies about male strippers. But it sounds like I Am Chippendales will go beyond the stage to dig into the founding and expansion of the Chippendales night club and the eventual controversy related to attempted arson, racketeering and murder-for-hire, linked co-owner Somen "Steve" Banerjee. Variety says Ben Stiller (Keeping the Faith), is in negotiations to play...
