“Reasonable Doubt” Season 2 is headed back into the courtroom, and the cast, as well as the slew of new additions are ready to put it in session.
It’s been a minute since Season 1 of “Reasonable Doubt,” and between Jax getting kidnapped by a deranged client-turned-lover and her bestie Shanelle (Shannon Kane) seemingly murdering her husband, there’s no telling what’s about to go down in Season 2. But the series brought in veteran actor Morris Chestnut, who will star as defense attorney Corey Cash, to help lift the load.
Other newcomers to the series include Essence Atkins, who will star as a domestic violence expert named Dr. Brandy Michaels; Melissa Ponzio, who plays a new District Attorney named Lucy Wargo; Vaughn W. Hebron, who will star as an ex-NFL player and Jt’s (Shannon’s now-dead husband) mentee named Adrian Hunter; and Kandi Burris, who will play Eboni Phillips,...

Netflix’s list of new releases for June 2024 look suspiciously like last month’s.
That’s because the biggest item on the schedule is Bridgerton season 3 once again. The final four episodes of Bridgerton‘s third season will premiere on June 13. Polin fans everywhere, rejoice! Other TV items of note this month include the third and final season of Sweet Tooth (June 6), Worst Roommate Ever season 2 (June 26), and That ’90s Show Part 2 (June 28).
Bridgerton aside, Netflix’s original movie options this month might be even more impressive than the TV slate. Richard Linklater’s Hitman, which stars Glen Powell as the titular assassin, premieres on June 7. That will be followed by documentary Black Barbie on June 19, the Jessica Alba-starring Trigger Warning on June 21, and romcom A Family Affair on June 28
Here’s everything else coming to Netflix this month. Note that Netflix marks its international offerings with that respective country’s two-letter country code.

Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.
Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.
Here’s everything coming to Amazon Prime Video and Freevee this month.

When Gabrielle Union-Wade turned 50 last October, the veteran actor and producer experienced a personal transformation, which has also filtered into her latest work. This era of her career, she says, is about embracing the possibilities.
“Whatever I thought that my dreams were, I was making them small,” Union-Wade told Variety at the American Black Film Festival (ABFF). “Turning 50 is about making things bigger by expanding the idea of what the possibilities could even be.”
Union-Wade debuted two projects at ABFF: the Netflix rom-com “The Perfect Find” and the BET+ docuseries “My Journey to 50,” which chronicled her birthday pilgrimage to Africa. She celebrated the BET+ series first, hosting a private bowling and ice-skating bash at the Miami Beach Edition on June 15, the same night the doc began streaming.

Vivica A. Fox Remembers How Uma Thurman Helped Her Survive Tarantino’s Grueling ‘Kill Bill’ Training
Quentin Tarantino fans know Vivica A. Fox as the assassin Vernita Green who goes head-to-head with Uma Thurma’s Bride in a bloody smackdown in Green’s suburban home. Fox’s scene opens “Kill Bill” with a bang, and the actress looks back on the making of the martial arts epic in her new book, “Every Day I’m Hustling.” Time has released an excerpt from the memoir in which Fox gets brutally honest about auditioning for Tarantino.
Before Fox was even able to properly audition, she had to meet Tarantino first to see if he liked her. The two had a 15 minute interview at a coffee shop where Tarantino said he first realized Fox could be Vernita Green after he saw her on the DVD cover of “Two Can Play That Game.”
“Quentin loves telling stories, and if he likes you, oh, he is going to talk,” Fox remembers of their first meeting.

Expectations were relatively low for writer-director Mark Brown’s $13 million comedy Two Can Play That Game when it opened on September 7, 2001. But this Screen Gems movie, which turned only a modest profit during its original theatrical run, has become a durable and much-imitated favorite in the ensuing decade and a half. It's last call for several horror films, including "The Silence of the Lambs" and the "The Omen" trilogy, which are leaving Netflix in December.
Also going bye-bye: Both versions of manly tearjerker "Brian's Song" and classics including "All About Eve" (1950), "The Great Escape" (1963) and "The Hustler" (1961). And if you want to stream '80s favorites "The Dark Crystal" (1982) or "Labyrinth" (1986), better get on that before December 1.
Here's what's leaving Netflix in December 2015.

These nostalgic cult classics may not have won Oscars, but they’ve delivered tons of iconic quotes, life lessons, and may have even inspired a few stand out celebrity Halloween costumes (Keri Hilson and Serge Ibaka as Lisa McDowell and Prince akeem — genius). The hits just keep on coming… and not just for the A-list artists of Lucious Lyon’s Empire Entertainment label.
Specifically, I’m talking about his delicious, quotable ex-wife — Cookie “pay the Pakistani” Lyon — and the way her fists seem to interrupt her conversations with the frequency and tenacity of a toddler trying to get his mother’s attention in the midst of an important phone call.

The bonus question was: In the 2001 film Two Can Play That Game, Keith makes Shante jealous by arriving at a function with a character played by what actress? Recently, African-American–directed relationship movies have hewed toward either incongruous absurdity (Think Like a Man), overt sentimentality (Jumping the Broom), or, in Tyler Perry's work, both. Long gone feel the days of complex films like Two Can Play That Game, Mark Brown's modern screwball comedy that provided hilarity alongside a clear-eyed critique of romantic battle. Writer-director Tina Gordon Chism's Peeples lacks the energy of Two Can Play That Game, but like that picture it manages to deliver farce without compromising realism. Craig Robinson (The Office) stars as Wade Walker, a musician who shows up uninvited at his girlfriend's parents' house for the weekend, planning to win the approval of her father, Virgil (David Alan G...

A thought... given recent project greenlights, where "black cinema" is concerned, I'm reminded of the late 1990s/early 2000s, when rom-coms or rom-drams (romantic dramas) with all-black casts, were popular: Hav Plenty, Love Jones, The Best Man, Love & Basketball, Brown Sugar, Two Can Play That Game, The Wood, How Stella Got Her Groove Back, and on, and on, and on... I'm now wondering if we just might be seeing the beginnings of another period in which Hollywood studio-backed "relationship/romance dramedies" that tell stories about black people, dominate the black cinema landscape - maybe thanks in large part to the success of the film that we might look...

Morris Chestnut (Boyz N The Hood, Two Can Play That Game, Kick-Ass 2) released an intriguing statement on Facebook today (and on Twitter) as a caption beneath the following photo.
Chestnut wrote:
It’s time to get familiar with the Black Panther character !
Nothing has been confirmed as of yet. It is possible that he is merely in talks to play the character and is attempting to boost his draft stock by getting a reaction from the Twitterverse and Facebook community.
The response has been completely positive from what I’ve seen.
Would you like to see Chestnut as Black Panther?

Not really a big fan of some of the films that they picked, and scratching my head as to what on earth made them come up with these films. From time to time, studios release a large box set of films at a fraction at what you would have paid for one stand alone disc. The Matrix set comes to mind, upon it’s initial release and subsequent sequels that were unveiled, it was attached with a nice price tag of about $20-25. Now you can obtain your own copy of the series for $10 at Target.
Now of this particular set, it’s nice to see Secret Life of Bee’s get some love. The film is really excellent and the superb Sophie Okonedo shines as always. It caught me by surprise for I wasn’t expecting much, and went in with the lowest of expectations. Didn’t quite care...
