I don't understand the IMDb rating. This is a good, fun, and entertaining mass film with tons of good performances and dialogues. It is definitely better than other Shaji Kailas films from the time, even Narasimham. Mamooka, while almost 50 at the time the film was released, exudes a particular manliness and energy that many actors today wish they had. The supporting performances are great as well. Both Kalabhavan Mani and Innocent shine in their serious roles. The performances of the 4 younger brothers also supplements Mamooka's character extremely well. Shobhana, who has more of an extended cameo here, does well in her limited time. NF Varghese and Sai Kumar performed very well as the villains, but their characters didn't feel as powerful as they should've been. The bgm is powerful, the editing is good, and the action scenes are accurately choreographed based on the actor's physical strengths. The only reason I won't give this over an 8 is the dialogues. Sometimes the dialogues in the film are amazing, other times, it sounded out of place for the setting. It's implied Madhavanunni doesn't know a language besides malayalam but in several scenes, he uses difficult English words randomly and also says something in Hindi in one scene for some reason. Also, one of Valyettan's brothers has a limp and the film constantly makes it a point to insult him for no reason. I don't know why Ranjith had dialogues like that but in my opinion, it was and is wrong to say that and still be glorified. Otherwise, the film is a good and entertaining mass film which I thoroughly enjoyed and may rewatch again.

I watched this movie in 2023. In the past 25 years there were dozens of movies with the same theme. An ever sacrificing, big hearted, protective patriarchal brother who dictates terms to his ever obedient shingdi brothers. Another feature is anybody and everybody around this family is indebted to the them directly or indirectly and willing to go to any length to help them. Last but not the least the ever presence of two rival factions having an age old grudge brewing, plotting and engaging in constant fights. This repetitive plot in this day and age seems boring. In all this Shobana, a talented actress was wasted in this blink and you'll miss role. Don't go by the hype and rush to watch this movie.
