In 2012, then 16-year-old Gabrielle Douglas charmed the world and broke barriers by winning the USA team and individual all-around gymnastics gold medals at the Summer Olympics in London. In a few weeks, with the arrival of Captain America: Civil War, one more superhero film will march on the box office and swallow the planet’s culture whole. And once again, we will ask: how long can this go on? Not long ago, a person could go to the multiplex in the middle months of the year and barely glimpse a superhero. 10 years ago, in between Superman and X-Men, there was still plenty of room for pirates, cars, spies, and gangsters. 20 years ago, there wasn’t a cape to be found in the movie theaters and we made do with aliens, tornadoes, hard-charging lawyers, and Renée Zellweger. Nothing lasts forever, of course, but the superhero genre has already far outlived fad status. So how long...

Always sensitive to the challenges of living truthfully, Transparent is gentle but unsparing, liable to make you belly-laugh in one moment and choke up in the next. What a difference a week makes on The CW's America's Next Top Model. Mikey went from living large in the Tyra Suite to receiving a stay of execution after landing in the bottom with Lacey, while Nyle clawed his way back from the abyss and wound up at the top of the heap. The competition is so tight, the judges are now leaving it up to the fab four to each plead their case as to why they should make it to the final two.
A Family Affair
When TyTy surprised the final four with visits from their moms, it was hard to not become more emotionally invested in who stays and who goes in this final elimination.

While the 87th Academy Awards was televised in over 225 countries around the world on Sunday, there was plenty that fans didn't see on TV. ETonline was inside Hollywood's biggest night and has the inside scoop into what really happens at the Oscars.
1. Arrivals
While stars enjoy the cries of fans and the flashing bulbs of photographers when they first arrive at the Dolby Theatre, it's not the same for non A-listers. If you're not an invited celebrity guest, you are ushered in and told to "move along" until you get inside. The never-ending line is slow moving as everyone tries to soak it all in, but you definitely feel the pressure to just keep walking. The experience is very much like cattle being herded.

Due Out: October 7, 2014
Who’S It For? “The Wonder Years” is timeless. Thankfully it doesn’t feel dated simply because I was a child of the ’80s trying to understand life in the late ’60s. “The Wonder Years” was my gateway drug to a nostalgia I didn’t even know. In the best episode of the season (so far), ‘Nashville’ finally answered the question we’ve been waiting for: Will Rayna James get her voice back?
Emotions were high and battle lines were drawn on the Oct. 23 episode of Nashville. Rayna’s (Connie Britton) voice was tested, Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) made a surprising offer, and someone was put behind bars!
Despite the emotional breakup between Rayna and Deacon (Charles Esten) a few weeks back, Deacon seemed to be moving on with his life. After his date in the last episode, Megan (Christina Chang) decided to stay the night. Even when Scarlett (Clare Bowen) walked in, he looked a little smug. I’m totally digging this new romance, and if they aren’t having second thoughts about it, then neither am I.
Nashville’s Songstresses Are Put To The Test
Juliette was more than ready to get her tour up and running again.

One of the most terrifying and tremendous thrillers of the 1990s, Rob Reiners film adaptation of Stephen Kings bestselling semi-roman a clef novelistic ode to psychotic fans, Misery, has always seemed somehow destined for the stage, and, now, thanks to two-time Academy Award-winning screenwriter William Goldman, responsible for the original films screenplay as well as many films, books, plays and musicals of his own, and director Will Frears, the nightmare is coming all too harrowingly, hobbling-ly real, live onstage at the Bucks County Playhouse for a special limited engagement November 24 through December 8. In this detailed discussion, Goldman, Frears and I dissect the finer points of the characters, story, themes and narrative ideas that flow through the original King novel and the Reiner film as well as outline what the new stage adaptation sets out to do insofar as intensifying, clarifying and maximizing the terrific potential inherent to the dynamic and compelling material.

- The Scorecard Review
Before the phrase “buddy cops” became its own genre, Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) and Roger Murtaugh (Danny Glover) were blowing up the gritty side of Los Angeles at the expense of taxpayers. The Lethal Weapon franchise kicked off decades of buddy cop films and TV shows, which tried to match the wit and intensity of Gibson and Glover. However, after rewatching the first movie straight through Lethal Weapon 4, it’s clear that these two actors transcended the simple good cop vs crazy cop stereotype. Riggs and Murtaugh have a family relationship that makes them two of the best cops to ever enter the action-movie foray. And, their playful banter never gets old even though the characters did.

Since we last spoke I finally managed to see the Criminal Minds episode Derek appeared in entitled A Family Affair. For those not familiar with the TV show it’s about a group of FBI agents who have to band together to catch serial killers.
The episode opens up with a quote "When there is anger, there is pain underneath” which is shortly thereafter followed by a scene with a guy in a wheelchair (Derek Magyar) who is with a prostitute. He then stabs her.

Thanks, Criminal Minds, for making us all suddenly feel like our own families aren't nearly as dysfunctional as we'd previously thought. If you can watch this week's episode without thanking your lucky stars that those people weren't your relatives, well... remind me to never come over to your house for dinner.
Despite the fact that "A Family Affair" once again revealed to us who the UnSub was very early in the game, for some reason it still felt more interesting than in past weeks. We did get the intrigue of not knowing how Jeffrey became paralyzed (at first I almost thought it was a combat-related injury and he was a veteran - that'll teach me to guess), and we also didn't know his mom covered for his dad in their accident. By the looks of her, I'd have guessed that Mommy Dearest was the one to screw things up. She...

"A Family Affair" showcased Major Crimes doing what it does best: solving a major crime. This was done with little of the team's usual wit and all of the severity you would expect when dealing with the murder of the child a colleague.
Handling of the case was done with the utmost class, and watching a mother familiar with the system dealing with her own loss was an interesting process. Her criminal methodology and parental instincts working side-by-side lent a completely different angle to the usual determination of the squad.
Intensity was the name of the game, as a routine search for the suspect turned into a shootout the likes of which had not been seen on The Closer for several seasons. Brenda was visibly shaken and even more determine to find out what happened.

The husband of Lil Wayne 's baby mama #1 Toya Carter -- who co-stars alongside her in the Bet reality show " Toya: A Family Affair " -- was arrested today at an airport in Atlanta ... after he allegedly tried to bring a gun onto an airplane. Law enforcement tells TMZ, Mickey "Memphitz" Wright put his backpack through the X-ray scanner at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport -- and Tsa agents quickly discovered the firearm and called the cops. According to police,...

For those of you who aren't reading (or are done reading? I know jM got a head start of several hours on most of you) there's some television on tonight. After a fashion, anyway. Really, I'm kind of mad because there's nothing I can properly mock on. At best, we've got "The Nine Lives of Chloe King" and I think I've made "so it's literally a pussified version of Wolverine?" joke before. Or did I make that somewhere else? And there's the Mlb All-Star game but I was under the impression that most All-Star games are somewhat uninteresting and just an excuse for a media/advertising circus. Honestly, none of this inspires me enough to put the energy into coming up with something really biting to say about it. So, here's your Tuesday night TV if you're into that sort of thing:
8:00pm: "Cupcake Wars" on Food Network

There's nothing really good on TV tonight, just the occasional show that's more entertaining than it has a right to be (looking at you, "White Collar" with your dashing suits and your Matt Bomer who seems to have finally gotten a handle on the crazy eyes. Also that girl that looks and soundslike Emma Stone and Emma Pillsbury from "Glee" went into the "If they Mated" machine. If you watch the show you know what I mean.) and a lot of reality stuff involving cupcakes. Ok, maybe not a lot of it involves cupcakes but two different shows on two different networks qualifies as a lot of cupcake shows as far as I'm concerned. Maybe you could just throw a movie on. I'd suggest The Jungle Book because I've been singing "I Wanna Be Like You" to myself All Day and I'm spreading that ear-worm as far as I can...

I've had someone point out that my time for "WWE: Raw" is apparently inaccurate for wherever they are twice now. I'd like to apologize, first of all, in case this individual missed the first hour of "Raw" when all the important plot lines are established and thus spent the second hour wondering why all these greasy men in swim trunks were throwing each other around the ring. I know that it's hard to follow the subtleties of such a show without all the information presented up front. However, I'd also like to remind all of you that whatever I put here is subject to local scheduling abnormalities and time zone weirdness. Most of the shows I list are listed by their Eastern time slots, so if you aren't blessed enough to live in the correct time zone then please always double check with a local source for anything you really don't want to miss.

Tonight Pajiba favorite dude behind the dude H. Jon Benjamin premieres his new show on Comedy Central although he's apparently just going by "Jon Benjamin" now and unlike every one of his other roles that you know and love this one will feature Benjamin as a person rather than an animated figure. Seriously, even the guy's IMDb photo is of Sterling Archer, I'm pretty sure I could be sitting three feet away from him and if he never spoke I'd be completely clueless. Maybe you love him best as the talking can of vegetables from Wet Hot American Summer. Maybe you love him the most in his brief role as Dr.Orpehus's Master on "The Venture Brothers" (which YouTube has No Evidence Of which makes me incredibly sad). Then there's the obvious favorite of Coach McGuirk from "Home Movies.". Honestly, I think he's a genius with his voice acting so...

Some good news on television tonight; "White Collar" comes back and I know at least a couple of you enjoy having that show around, the cast of "Modern Family" will be on "Inside the Actor's Studio," plus it's the fourth game of the NBA finals! Yay, basketball! But there's also the return of the Duggars (just typing that kind of makes me want to dry heave) and she who shall not be accurately named is on Jimmy Kimmel's talk show. I'm pretty sure there's other things going on with the world, but yesterday and today I've been doing something that basically keeps me cut off from the world for the entire day and when I get home I'm too tired to notice all but the important stuff. Apparently people are angry at that Congressman because he sent a picture of his underwear to an unsuspecting lady? Color me jaded,...

There are times when I have to sit back and look on the self-cannibalizing nature of television with a kind of sick admiration. My favorite example has always been "Trading Spouses" which went from a skit on "Chappelle's Show" mocking the "Trading Spaces" model by substituting people trading their actual marriages to an actual reality series where people... traded families. Last year there was a fictional series on Lifetime called "Huge" which was set in a weight-loss camp for teenagers. The kids on the show watched a TV series called "Love Handles" which was about overweight contestants battling to find love. "Huge" was cancelled after its first season. Tonight, we see the premiere of "Love Handles" on Lifetime which is a show where a couple go through "a dual transformation as overweight couples attempt to save their lives and relationships as they confront what lies at the core of their issues.

Tonight's the season finale of "Glee" which I suspect more of you are watching than admit it. I get that, while I've given up any hope of appearing cool or like I have good taste in television, I understand the instinct to protect oneself from the slings and arrows that come when you admit that you're still into (or at least regularly watching) a show that is widely regarded as terrible. It's a strange phenomena, there's shows I've been able to quit after a single bad episode, and there's shows that I stick with even though watching them gives me no real enjoyment anymore not even as train wrecks go (looking at you, "Grey's Anatomy"). And then there's the people who watch so that every so-so episode they can hop online and type as fast as their little fingers can manage that the show has obviously "jumped the shark" (a...

The season finale for "Body of Proof" is on tonight and I mention it only because I've seen that there's something of an informal trend happening on TV right now with Medical Examiners in heels. "Bones" has one in the lovely and somewhat inconsistently written Camille Saroyan, "Rizzoli and Isles" practically writes half the show around that premise, and "Body of Proof" appears to be doing likewise. I'm not saying that one cannot be a whip smart and professional lady in stilettos, I'm saying that as someone who wears them on occasion I definitely wouldn't be wearing them anywhere near decomposing bodies. They like to sink in soft soil and you would run a high risk of getting corpse juice on your feet and I don't care how used to dealing with bodies you are, that's extremely icky. Also I'm pretty sure squatting down to get a better look at...

Tonight features the reality shows of Sinbad, Toni Braxton and Family, and Toya who is... famous for apparently one single from 2001. I'm beginning to question the qualifications for having your own reality series, seems like back in the day you had to at least pop out an extraordinary number of babies to get a camera crew to follow your every movement. Now not having any sort of notable career for the last decade seems to be the new benchmark, unless you're in Miami when that's just a reason to run for Mayor. (Seriously.) I'm not mad at these people for getting their own shows, good on them for managing to get a paycheck on a name that hasn't been news in years, I'm just wondering what audience is like "You know what I really want to see? A show about Sinbad's family. That would be just perfect." If you are...

Lots more sports tonight, and as I sit here gazing out at weather in the mid-80s (or high 20s for those of you who speak Celsius) I find myself wondering how it is that two 'winter' sports are still going strong. Basketball makes slightly more sense, because it's always been played indoors so it doesn't matter as much what time of year the games are played. But hockey? I don't doubt there are still places where you could have an outdoor ice rink around this time of year but not for much longer. Is there an explanation for this other than "the season starts later than it should to accommodate football" or is that it? Questions for the ages, for sure. Here's your Tuesday night TV:

Cinderella, move over. The fairy-tale aspect of the Royal Wedding was cranked up an extra notch for the procession to Buckingham Palace following the main ceremony and the exchanging of vows at Westminster Abbey. The freshly ennobled Duke and Duchess of Cambridge stepped into a 109-year-old State Landau carriage and rode from the Abbey, past Parliament Square, through Whitehall and down the Mall atop a red tarmac that gave the appearance of a red carpet. Boarding the carriage at 12:15 p.m. London time, they held hands and smiled at one another before beginning their nearly 10-minute ride. Within moments,...

A family affair is far more posh: the father of the bride gets a boutonnière. April 1950, from the Condé Nast Archive. Next week, Prince William and his fiancée, Kate Middleton, will be married in front of 1,900 people at Westminster Abbey. The media, which has devoted lengthy coverage to the event ever since the couple first announced their engagement, is already estimating that two billion people will watch the ceremony on television—making it perhaps the most widely viewed program in history. And projected costs for the celebration are expected to reach upward of $40 million—another record-breaking number.
