The premise for John Pasquin's 1994 hit Christmas film "The Santa Clause" is amusingly morbid at its heart. On Christmas Eve, divorced schlub Scott Calvin (Tim Allen) hears a clatter on his rooftop. When he goes to investigate, he finds that it's Santa Claus himself, scuttling down his chimney. Scott startles Santa, causing the jolly old fellow to slip off the roof and fall to his death. Yes, a delightful family comedy begins with the death of Santa.
Following some written instructions hidden on a business card in Santa's sleigh, Scott puts on the big guy's red coat and, lo finds he has to take Santa's place for the night. Once all the gifts are delivered, Calvin is taken to the North Pole, where he learns there was some fine print on the business card. In putting on the coat, Scott agreed to become Santa Claus in perpetuity, and will...

DreamWorks quickly set its sights on "The Cat in the Hat" and greenlit a live-action adaptation with a budget over $100 million, tapping another Canadian-born comedic A-lister to star in the film -- in this case, Mike Myers, an actor who was at the peak of his career, starring in both the "Austin Powers" trilogy And "Shrek" at the same time. In 1994, TV star Tim Allen became a bona fide movie star by nabbing the lead role in The Santa Clause, directed by John Pasquin. Allen plays Scott Calvin, an ordinary man who, in a bizarre twist of fate, inadvertently causes Santa to fall off his roof on Christmas Eve and finds himself magically recruited to take his place. The film would prove to be a smash success at the box-office and it seems that audiences were taken with this divorced dad transforming into the new Santa.

Upon discovering there is a way to retire from his post, Scott considers stepping down as Santa Claus and finding a worthy successor so that he can become a better father and husband.
Allen also executive produces the series alongside Jack Burditt, who serves as showrunner. Kevin Hench, Richard Baker and Rick Messina will serve as executive producers along with Jason Winer and Jon Radler for Small Dog Picture Company.

David Krumholtz is a sight for sore eyes by the time he reprises Bernard in Episode 5 of The Santa Clauses. He was last seen in The Santa Clause 2, and the Disney+ sequel series reveals how the beloved elf managed to escape The Escape Clause.
Krumholtz originated the role of Bernard in 1994’s The Santa Clause. He returned for the 2002 follow-up, but sat out 2006’s The Santa Clause 3 — in part because he was committed to CBS’ Numb3rs, and in part because his role had been “devalued.” So when the threequel hit the big screen, Bernard’s former protégé Curtis was head elf,...

If you’ve spent the last 28 years wondering about the logistics of Santa Claus falling off of a man’s roof and that man suddenly becoming Santa Claus, Disney+ is here to finally bring you some peace, some answers and a little bit of Christmas joy.
“The Santa Clauses” essentially serves as the fourth movie in the Disney franchise, a delightful six-episode series that catches up with the Calvin-Claus family 28 years after Scott (Tim Allen) first put on the suit and reluctantly became the big guy. While Santa is beloved by all the elves at the North Pole, his magic is beginning to fade. He’s losing weight, and Mrs. Claus (Elizabeth Mitchell) is struggling with her lack of a first name or personality. Their son Cal (Austin Kane) plays VR games of regular domestic life, and daughter Sandra’s (Elizabeth Allen-Dick) only real friends are animals. When head elf...

It’s not quite Christmastime yet, but Santa Claus is coming to town — or at least, Disney+ — this week. Tim Allen is suiting up once more in “The Santa Clauses,” and he’s flanked by some beloved characters from the original films. That said, Allen admits you won’t see everyone you know.
In the new series, the first two episodes of which premiere on Disney+ on Wednesday, we find Santa Claus, a.k.a. Scott Calvin, on the brink of turning 65. Realizing he can’t be Santa forever, he decides it’s time to retire, and give his kids a life in the real world. Elizabeth Mitchell returns as Mrs. Claus for the series, after first appearing in “The Santa Clause 2.”
But, it seems Mitchell is the only sequel character that will be in the series — at least for now.

That the Christmas spirit is no longer what it once was is the discontent at the heart of Disney+’s The Santa Clauses, which sees Tim Allen’s Santa pondering retirement after nearly three decades on the job.
Really, though, was it ever? This is a franchise that began (in the 1994 film The Santa Clause) with a bitterly divorced salesman killing Santa the night before Christmas. Its spun-sugar holiday magic has always been a little askew — and with the latest addition from creator Jack Burditt, it’s taken on a distinctly sour tinge.
Here is a Santa who gripes that “Saying ‘Merry Christmas to all’ has suddenly become problematic,” and huffs at the idea that deeming a kid too naughty for presents is “brat-shaming.” He’s taken aback to realize that the adorable moppet who left him soy milk 20-some years ago (as...

For several Christmas seasons in my childhood, “The Santa Clause” reigned supreme. The 1994 Tim Allen movie about magic, divorce and accepting the realities of both was such a go-to that soon enough, my vision of the North Pole became one and the same with this one, with its snarky elves and legendary hot chocolate I would happily push Santa off a roof to try myself. Now, though, I’m an adult woman who spends half my time reviewing shows borne of the beloved comics, movies and toys of my youth, which has rapidly become more depressing than magical.
Still: I came to Disney+’s “The Santa Clauses,” in which Allen returns alongside Elizabeth Mitchell’s Mrs. Clause to do right by Christmas and his new family, with an open mind. After all, half the point of “The Santa Clause” was how moving it could be to make adults believe in something extraordinary,...

When reviving the Santa Clause franchise by way of Disney+, the Powers That Be knew they’d have to explain why a certain fan-favorite elf had been kept on the shelf for the last 20 years.

The musician from Detroit ascended the pop culture ladder like a rocketship, dominating the airwaves and MTV seemingly overnight, and then for several years. It was remarkable and unique. Many parents hated Eminem. Young people ate up his controversial music like crazy. And in the clip, Santa Claus is interviewing potential candidates for the job. And who is on the top of his list? Peyton Manning. “I can’t wait to rub this in Brady’s face,” Manning says in the clip.
According to the official synopsis, “Scott Calvin is on the brink of his 65th birthday and realizing that he can’t be Santa forever. He’s starting to lose a step in his Santa duties, and more importantly, he’s got a family who could benefit from a life in the normal world, especially two sons, one that grew up in Lakeside, Illinois (Charlie) and one that grew up at the Pole (Buddy). While Lafleur is best known for The Sandlot, his face is recognizable from films such as Field of Dreams, in which he played Black Sox ringleader Chick Gandil and The Santa Clause 2 and 3, in which he played the Tooth Fairy; as well as innumerable roles in classic TV series such as M*A*S*H, Lou Grant, Soap, Webster, The A-Team, Hill Street Blues, Thirtysomething, Northern Exposure, Home Improvement, Malcolm in the Middle, Doogie Howser, Coach, Baywatch, ER, Jag, House and The Mentalist.
Ironically, despite his list of credits, Lafleur didn’t start...

"C'mon, be one of us!" Universal Pics + Gravitas have debuted an official trailer for a comedy titled Queen Bees, a film from filmmaker Michael Lembeck.
