Marta and Mikkel are waiting to go on a ski trip to Blåfjell to find out if the mountain plays in the blue hour. In Blåfjell they are also waiting, but for something completely different.

For many hundreds of years, the blue gnomes have lived according to the old laws and rules in Blåfjell. In Bygda, they get a new rule - about what to do with the rubbish.

Now things are boiling in both Bygda and Blåfjell. Bluemother and Bluefather put everything imaginable into the big pot, but it doesn't turn out the way they want.

Finally, Bluemother and Bluefather can make a blue Christmas night sky, so the big star can shine for elves and people in the village and town.

Every day in December Bluemother and Bluefather make "The Blue Hour", and then the mountain opens up so all the blue gnomes can go out. But today, surely something is wrong?

It's stocking knitting day, and everyone has to knit new stockings for Christmas. The village is filled with scrap, because Lillegutt doesn't seem to bother driving rubbish any more.

The keys are gone, and where is Mikkel's horn? Turte knows what happens if you don't come in after the blue hour, but what if you are seen by a human?

Turte thinks about "The age-old blue gnome rule". Is it too old to use? In Bygda, there are two people who do not understand much of the new rubbish rules.
