Clint Eastwood sat down with Metrograph (via IndieWire) to discuss his legacy and how he had no choice but to persist even when handing over lousy movies that nobody bothered seeing. “After you get a few films that are reasonably successful, people kind of stick with you. But if you’re grinding out turkeys, they don’t stick with you.”

Why all the outrage over the apparent slighting of Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2”? There’s the limited theatrical release, no advertising, and initial absence from Warner Bros. Discovery’s awards page, for a film with strong reviews and audience response — but good grief, has everyone at that studio forgotten what they owe Eastwood’s legacy?

The Warners-Eastwood relationship is unparalleled in Hollywood history. It also represents a way of doing business that Warners no longer cares to apply to its creative relationships — or at least, doesn’t care if that’s the community’s takeaway, which may be the same thing.

Since 1971, Eastwood made 46 films for Warners as a director and/or actor and/or producer. IndieWire wants to make the case that Eastwood has been the most important creative component in the studio’s history — financially, and arguably, critically.

If you're a fan of Clint Eastwood the filmmaker, and how can you not be, it's been a rough stretch. Your mileage may vary, but I don't think he's made a truly great movie since the wildly underrated (and underseen) "Letters from Iwo Jima." I've warmed to "Gran Torino" over the years, but after that the movies –- even the mostly good ones –- have been marked by indifferent craftsmanship (who can forget Bradley Cooper making the fake baby's arm move in what was supposed to be one of the most emotionally charged scenes in "American Sniper").

We know Eastwood is renowned for delivering movies ahead of schedule and under budget, so it was hard not to conclude that his drive to keep working, to keep moving, to keep from doing nothing as he passed into his nineties (he's currently 94) was more important to him than making a finely wrought film.

Many know actor/musician Jeff Daniels for his roles in classic ‘90s films like “Speed” and “Dumb and Dumber,” as well as his Emmy-winning performance as Will McAvoy in the Aaron Sorkin HBO series “The Newsroom.” However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Daniels says he received the greatest camera-acting education during his collaboration with Clint Eastwood on the 2002 mystery thriller “Blood Work.”

Eastwood, notorious for shooting very few takes, if not only one, made Daniels realize preparation and spontaneity are key.

“I do not sit around with casts on any project and talk about our collective journey. I love to make it happen in front of the camera for the first time in take one,” Daniels said. “In Clint Eastwood movies, that’s where I learned it. You get one take, and then Clint’s moving the camera. So that’s where you learn to hit it on one.

Hollywood independent film and documentary producer Chris Chesser, best known for producing 1989 Paramount comedy Major League, has died at age 74. 

Chesser died suddenly at his home in Los Angeles on February 2, according to a statement from his family. 

Chesser began his film career in New York in 1974 as an international sales executive for Columbia Pictures before becoming general manager of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles in 1976.

Chesser died suddenly Feb. 2 while at his Los Angeles home, brothers Alan and Steve Chesser announced Tuesday. The cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

In 1974, the producer took his first steps into the entertainment industry as an executive in international sales at Columbia Pictures. Two years later, Chesser became general manager of the American Film Institute in Los Angeles. Between 1980 and 1983, Chesser helmed two production companies: he served as vice president of production at Marble Arch Productions and functioned as head of production for Filmways, until the company was acquired by Orion Pictures.

Films Chesser supervised as a production executive include “Sharkey’s Machine,” “The Great Santini,” “Caddyshack,” “Wolfen,” “Arthur,” “Excalibur” and “On Golden Pond.” He also assisted in developing the features “Spinal Tap” and “Absence of Malice.”

Chesser died suddenly Feb. 2 at his Los Angeles home, his brothers, Alan and Steve Chesser, announced. No cause of death was revealed.

As a production executive, Chesser supervised such notable films as The Great Santini (1979), Caddyshack (1980), On Golden Pond (1981), Wolfen (1981), Arthur (1981), Sharky’s Machine (1981) and Excalibur (1981).

For over two decades, it’s felt as if Clint Eastwood has been saying goodbye. There are only two months left to go in this truly hellish year and relatively new streaming service HBO Max is trying to make the best of them. While most other streamers recover from Halloween and get prepared for Christmas, HBO Max is using November 2020 to fill out its servers.

Things are pretty light not the new original series front this month with only Industry (Nov. 9) and His Dark Materials season 2 (Nov. 16) making a splash. But the streamer has a couple of notable original films to complement them. Between the World and Me, based on the book by Ta-Nehisi Coates, arrives on Nov. 21 and Melissa McCarthy comedy Superintelligence arrives on Nov. 26. That’s not even to mention two intriguing projects that don’t have dates yet: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air Reunion Special and The Mystery of Db Cooper.

Thankfully, the real appeal in November 2020 is all the fresh library...

Exclusive: Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri’s Compelling Pictures have closed a deal to produce and finance a feature adaptation of Michael Connelly’s recent New York Times bestseller Fair Warning which is being seen as a potential franchise. Connelly will write the screen adaptation and produce alongside O’Sullivan and Kalligheri. Two-time Emmy nominee Jeffrey Pollack (Laurel Canyon) will also produce.

Fair Warning was released this summer and is the third in Connelly’s series of books about investigative journalist Jack McEvoy, who has often been cited as the character most closely resembling the author in real life, with Connelly himself having been a crime reporter for years.

The murder mystery is set around the rapidly evolving ‘wild west’ world of DNA sequence data harvesting; specifically in regard to such data being sold for profit within an industry that has no oversight. It delves into the murky moral questions...

HBO Max is out with its list of everything coming and going from the new streaming service, and the list includes the 2019 film “Harriet” starring Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman.

The HBO Originals coming next month include season four of “Room 104,” HBO Europe’s “Foodie Love,” and documentaries like “Stockton on My Mind” and “Showbiz Kids.” Other films joining include “Motherless Brooklyn,” “Midway,” and “Last Christmas.”

Leaving at the end of the month are “Aquamarine,” “Crazy Rich Asians,” “Long Shot,” “Crimson Peak,” “The Sun Is Also a Star” and “X-Men.”

HBO Max is set to enter into its second month of existence. And you know what that means: it’s Christmas in July!

HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2020 is highlighted by one prominent Christmas movie: last year’s Emilia Clarke-starring Last Christmas. But the real cause for Christmas in July is all the exciting animated DC content coming our way on the first of the month. July 1 sees the arrival of just about every animated Batman project ever created. July 1 also features the arrival of just about every Justice League animated series ever created as well.

If that weren’t enough, July 1 is also when every live-action Superman movie (save for Man of Steel) makes it streaming debut. July is starting to look like a month where HBO Max establishes its real potential and geek culture bonafides…despite an at-times difficult rollout.

Columbus Zoo made a bleak announcement on Wednesday.

Clint Eastwood became an american film star in the 1960’s thanks to his acting performances in a number of western films. As he began to branch out with new roles in front of the camera, he sought out to have more creative input into the types of film projects that he would be involved in. One way he was able to accomplish this was by creating his own production company which eventually allowed him to work behind the camera as director. His first film as director was 1971’s Play Misty For Me, which was well received by critics and did well at the box office. Warner Brothers has just dropped word on a two new collections dedicated to the work of American film icon Clint Eastwood. The two collections (one on DVD, the other on Blu-ray) will feature a new documentary by Eastwood biographer Richard Schickel, along with a copy of the new non-directed Eastwood film Trouble with the Curve.

AMC's Fearfest 2012 is currently showing over 90 horror classics for the Halloween season. This year's Fearfest is also hosting a Friday the 13th and Halloween movie marathon, which has already begun and will continue this weekend (October. 20th & 21st). All of this great content is being hosted by filmmaker and director Kevin Smith (Clerks). Fearfest 2012 has also produced a series of short Mini-Docs' to accompany these classic films. There are 10 titles in total. Each short reel of 3-5 minutes deals with a unique human fear. The short film "Blood Work," starring actor Dave Vescio (Lost Soul), chronicles the actual drinking of blood in the greater Los Angeles area. The research and experiences of Det. Pink are retold by Vescio, in this reel. Apparently, there are active blooddrinkers in the San Fernando Valley as we speak! Other notable titles include "Cannibals" with Irina Stemer, the alien focused "Invasion" with actor Bill Oberst Jr....

AMC's month-long Fearfest celebration just got interesting with the release of a series of mini-docs titled "Living Nightmares," which feature one major human fear per episode.

Over ninety feature films are helping to celebrate AMC’s 2012 Fearfest, and the network has developed several mini-shockumentaries to precede and play during these many films. Ten "Living Nightmares" are being aired during AMC’s Fearfest. These short reels of 3-5 minutes in length include the violent expose “Breaking Point,” the eye-opening hydrophobia-focused “Dead Pool,” the controversial alien short “Invasion,” and the human blood-drinking documentary “Blood Work.” All of these short features focus on a specific human terror.

Over the last few night's I've been catching the Friday the 13th marathon on AMC's Fearfest. It's kind of a tradition.

AMC has also announced the release of a series of Mini-Docs', which feature one major human fear per episode. One mini documentary stars horror favorite Bill Oberst Jr. If you don't happen to have AMC or don't get a chance to catch it, you can check out the embedded video below, as well as a list of links to the other episodes.

Oberst Jr. first appears at about :50 into the episode (embedded below), identified as "Elliot Cruise, E.T. Expert". The episode first "Invasion" aired tonight during a break in Friday the 13th: The Final Friday.

AMC’s Fearfest 2012 continues with its horrifying film schedule that includes classic and modern films.

Clint Eastwood is the last, lonely representative of a mythical breed — the badass. Jeff Daniels has mastered many skills: gross-out comedy, Sorkinian speechifying, not harming those who confuse him with Dave Coulier. HollywoodNews.com: First images have surfaced for Robert Lorenz’s film Trouble with the Curve starring Academy Award Winner Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and Justin Timberlake. The film tells the story of an ailing baseball scout that takes his daughter along for one last recruiting trip.

This has been labeled the “final” acting performance from Clint Eastwood, whom has delivered when directed by himself in roles like Million Dollar Baby (2004). However, Eastwood has had a few hiccups in films like Gran Torino (2008) and Blood Work (2002). Is there a consensus out there for Eastwood to having an acting award to accompany his two directing Oscars? Either way, this is a project to keep an eye on for the rest of the season especially after the success of Bennett Miller?s Moneyball, which seemed to follow the same equation.

Three great films (Blood Work, U.S. Marshals and A Perfect World) have gotten the Blu-ray treatment from Warner Brothers and look great on the format . even if there isn.t much of a reason for the upgrade. New special features would have been nice, but if you don.t already own the films, the Blu-ray editions are the way to go.
