Clint Eastwood remains, at 94, one of the most legendary presences both on and off the screen. And you don’t get 70 years in the industry by releasing dud after dud. And that was kind of Eastwood’s plan at a certain point, especially when he first stepped behind the camera for 1971’s Play Misty for Me, lest he be tossed out of Warner Bros. unceremoniously – not unlike them rushing Juror No. 2 to streaming, but that’s another story entirely…
Clint Eastwood sat down with Metrograph (via IndieWire) to discuss his legacy and how he had no choice but to persist even when handing over lousy movies that nobody bothered seeing. “After you get a few films that are reasonably successful, people kind of stick with you. But if you’re grinding out turkeys, they don’t stick with you.”

Why all the outrage over the apparent slighting of Clint Eastwood’s “Juror #2”? There’s the limited theatrical release, no advertising, and initial absence from Warner Bros. Discovery’s awards page, for a film with strong reviews and audience response — but good grief, has everyone at that studio forgotten what they owe Eastwood’s legacy?
The Warners-Eastwood relationship is unparalleled in Hollywood history. It also represents a way of doing business that Warners no longer cares to apply to its creative relationships — or at least, doesn’t care if that’s the community’s takeaway, which may be the same thing.
Since 1971, Eastwood made 46 films for Warners as a director and/or actor and/or producer. IndieWire wants to make the case that Eastwood has been the most important creative component in the studio’s history — financially, and arguably, critically.
If that seems extreme, consider this. All told, his 46 Warners films have a worldwide gross,...

If you're a fan of Clint Eastwood the filmmaker, and how can you not be, it's been a rough stretch. Your mileage may vary, but I don't think he's made a truly great movie since the wildly underrated (and underseen) "Letters from Iwo Jima." I've warmed to "Gran Torino" over the years, but after that the movies –- even the mostly good ones –- have been marked by indifferent craftsmanship (who can forget Bradley Cooper making the fake baby's arm move in what was supposed to be one of the most emotionally charged scenes in "American Sniper").
We know Eastwood is renowned for delivering movies ahead of schedule and under budget, so it was hard not to conclude that his drive to keep working, to keep moving, to keep from doing nothing as he passed into his nineties (he's currently 94) was more important to him than making a finely wrought film.

Many know actor/musician Jeff Daniels for his roles in classic ‘90s films like “Speed” and “Dumb and Dumber,” as well as his Emmy-winning performance as Will McAvoy in the Aaron Sorkin HBO series “The Newsroom.” However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Daniels says he received the greatest camera-acting education during his collaboration with Clint Eastwood on the 2002 mystery thriller “Blood Work.”
Eastwood, notorious for shooting very few takes, if not only one, made Daniels realize preparation and spontaneity are key.
“I do not sit around with casts on any project and talk about our collective journey. I love to make it happen in front of the camera for the first time in take one,” Daniels said. “In Clint Eastwood movies, that’s where I learned it. You get one take, and then Clint’s moving the camera. So that’s where you learn to hit it on one.

For over two decades, it’s felt as if Clint Eastwood has been saying goodbye. Starting with “Unforgiven,” a film that could almost be seen as the last western, he’s spent the better part of his late period ruminating on his place in all of this. “Unforgiven” saw Eastwood saddling up on the horse one (almost) final time. “Blood Work” and “Gran Torino” felt like trips down “Dirty Harry” way, aged men of authority doling out justice one last time.

Michael Connelly knows a thing or two about justice and murder. The writer/creator has been writing about those very things for decades and is showing no signs of slowing down. Connelly is probably best known as the creator of the hit show Bosch, which is in its seventh season. The films Blood Work and The Lincoln Lawyer are based on Connelly’s books. It was recently announced that Netflix had ordered a series based on The Lincoln Lawyer with famed television showrunner David E. Kelly. With all that going on, Connelly has still found time to write and make podcasts (Murder Book), and now The Wonderland Murders & The Secret History of Hollywood, which is available on Audible. Aotn: What got you into writing about crime and mystery? Michael Connelly: It’s almost like all these dominoes of faith had to fall. And then again, but one of the...

Exclusive: Denis O’Sullivan and Jeff Kalligheri’s Compelling Pictures have closed a deal to produce and finance a feature adaptation of Michael Connelly’s recent New York Times bestseller Fair Warning which is being seen as a potential franchise. Connelly will write the screen adaptation and produce alongside O’Sullivan and Kalligheri. Two-time Emmy nominee Jeffrey Pollack (Laurel Canyon) will also produce.
Fair Warning was released this summer and is the third in Connelly’s series of books about investigative journalist Jack McEvoy, who has often been cited as the character most closely resembling the author in real life, with Connelly himself having been a crime reporter for years.

HBO Max is set to enter into its second month of existence. And you know what that means: it’s Christmas in July!
HBO Max’s list of new releases for July 2020 is highlighted by one prominent Christmas movie: last year’s Emilia Clarke-starring Last Christmas. But the real cause for Christmas in July is all the exciting animated DC content coming our way on the first of the month. July 1 sees the arrival of just about every animated Batman project ever created. July 1 also features the arrival of just about every Justice League animated series ever created as well.
If that weren’t enough, July 1 is also when every live-action Superman movie (save for Man of Steel) makes it streaming debut. July is starting to look like a month where HBO Max establishes its real potential and geek culture bonafides…despite an at-times difficult rollout.

When HBO Max launched last month, DC fans hoped it would be the premiere place to go to watch all their favorite DC content. While the streaming service did have an impressive array of films and TV shows available on launch, there were a lot of notable missing titles, too, due to pre-existing licenses getting in the way. As time goes on, though, more DC properties will end up on the site. Case in point: this July will see a whole heap of superhero content go up on HBO Max.

Columbus Zoo made a bleak announcement on Wednesday.
On its Facebook page, the zoo shared that Nanuq, its senior polar bear, was humanely euthanized after a discovery earlier in the week that he was suffering from liver cancer that was too advanced to treat. Nanuq was 29, which is 8 years older than the median life span of 20.9 for male polar bears in North American Zoos.
“In mid-February, animal care staff noticed clinical signs of illness and decreased activity in Nanuq, resulting in veterinary staff conducting a thorough medical examination. Blood work indicated reduced liver function, and while he initially showed some improvement with medical management,...

As Sully‘s well-deserved box-office success continues, Clint Eastwood begins moving towards his next directorial effort — and, yes, it’s another story of American exceptionalism, but probably more along the lines of his last feature than the controversy-stirring American Sniper. THR gives word that the project is Impossible Odds, a kidnapping tale based on the memoirs of Jessica Buchanan, Erik Landemalm, and Anthony Flacco. Buchanan, an aid worker in Somalia, was, alongside a colleague “sold out by their escort and protector” and kidnapped by land pirates in October of 2011, then held captive for 93 days while her husband, Landemalm, sought to have her rescued, a task eventually completed by Seal Team 6.
Brian Helgeland (previously of the director’s Blood Work and Mystic River) will handle writing duties, which includes, among other things, the unique task of giving an Eastwood picture (or an Eastwood anything) some positive stance on Barack Obama, being...

If American Sniper displayed Clint Eastwood’s knack for tackling true-life drama – bagging $547 million and six Oscar nominations in the process – Sully took that creative process to the skies, producing a gripping account of the Miracle on the Hudson that was flawed, yes, but also incredibly entertaining throughout.
It seems Eastwood has developed a taste for the sub-genre, too, now that The Hollywood Reporter brings word that the esteemed actor-turned-director has honed in on his latest feature film to be ripped from the headlines. Lifted her own Impossible Odds memoir, THR confirms that the picture will chronicle the story of Jessica Buchanan, the American aid worker kidnapped by Somali pirates five years ago. Held captive for 93 days while the pirates demanded ransom, Buchanan was ultimately rescued thanks to a Seal Team Six mission carried out under the cover of darkness.

After tackling a true-life story with Sully, Clint Eastwood is setting his sights on another: that of kidnapped American aid worker Jessica Buchanan. Warner Bros, Eastwood's longtime home studio, has optioned Impossible Odds, the memoir written by Buchanan, her husband Erik Landemalm, and Anthony Flacco. While it's a beat early in the development stages, Eastwood is looking at it as his next project. Brian Helgeland, who worked with Eastwood on the Oscar-winning 2003 film Mystic River, as well as 2002's Blood Work, is writing the script. Directors’ trademarks is a series of articles that examines the “signatures” that filmmakers leave behind in their work. This month, we’re examining the trademark style and calling signs of Clint Eastwood as director.
Clint Eastwood became an american film star in the 1960’s thanks to his acting performances in a number of western films. As he began to branch out with new roles in front of the camera, he sought out to have more creative input into the types of film projects that he would be involved in. One way he was able to accomplish this was by creating his own production company which eventually allowed him to work behind the camera as director. His first film as director was 1971’s Play Misty For Me, which was well received by critics and did well at the box office. HIs second film as director was High Plains Drifter (1973), in which he also starred.

From Dumb & Dumber and The Martian, through to Arachnophobia and Steve Jobs - we salute the screen work of Jeff Daniels...
They say that when you play the Game of Thrones, “you win or you die”. The Game of Jeff Daniels, however, is an undeniably different beast and for the most part is a definite “you win or you win”. After viewing dozens of Jeff Daniels movies and spending many, many hours with his on-screen personas, it’s fair to say that the maxim has been sorely tested but guess what? It still holds true. This list has been carefully curated to celebrate the veteran actor’s talent, versatility and wit and no matter which (if any) of these movies you decide to revisit or check out for the first time, Jeff is guaranteed to give you something to love in each and every one.

We’ve reviewed every summer movie season since 1980 to find out which are the best, and which are the worst. Last week we posted our picks for the worst, and here we post our picks for the best.
2015 and 2016 may just be the most overthetop summer movie seasons yet. It seems like nearly every movie slated for a summer 2015 or 2016 release is heavily anticipated. Because of these impending summers of movie awesomeness, we’ve decided to take a look back at summer movie seasons of years past. The idea of the summer movie season is currently in full swing, but it didn’t catch on immediately. Hollywood had to do its fair share of experimenting to determine what types of films would be most successful. As a result, some summer movie seasons have been better than others. We’ve reviewed them all for you and ranked them from worst to best.

For this week’s spotlight piece, I wanted to go old school and take a look at a classic A-lister, and that happens to be one Clint Eastwood. Depending on your age, he’s either a director who used to be an actor or a childhood icon who’s now become a rather iconic filmmaker. Few could have reinvented themselves the way that Eastwood has, with this weekend’s release of Jersey Boys highlighting his directing skills in a whole new light than really ever before. He’s tried to do it all in Hollywood, you have to tip your hat to him for that. Eastwood has basically done it all in the business. He’s starred in franchises (the Dirty Harry series as well as The Man With No Name movies), acted in Best Picture winners, and directed them as well. Though one could legitimately make the claim that...

Ah, the police drama, it is perhaps the most watched type of series on television, in league with the soap and the medical drama. So, it comes as little surprise that Amazon wants in on the procedural goodness. The streaming service has given Bosch the green light.
Based on the New York Times Best Selling novels by Michael Connelly, the pilot will center on Harry Bosch, a veteran police homicide detective who works in the city of angels for the Los Angeles Police Department. I have a soft spot for Lapd tales! And the field is wide open with Southland not getting renewed again.

While there are certain aspects of film-making they can’t always control, ultimately it is the skill of the director that determines whether a movie is good or bad. To make this list of the greatest modern directors, a director must still be actively making movies and only movies from the last 15 years are considered in the ranking of the directors.
The factors in the rankings obviously include the general quality of the directors films but also takes into account the number of films made in the given time period as well, the impact of the director on the filmmaking scene as a whole, and the potential they have for making more great movies in the future. The sheer number of quality directors ensures that a good number were excluded from the list as many excellent filmmakers such as Ang Lee, Kathryn Bigelow, Edgar Wright, Danny Boyle, Nicolas Winding Refn,...

AMC's Fearfest 2012 is currently showing over 90 horror classics for the Halloween season. This year's Fearfest is also hosting a Friday the 13th and Halloween movie marathon, which has already begun and will continue this weekend (October. 20th & 21st). Pink are retold by Vescio, in this reel. Apparently, there are active blooddrinkers in the San Fernando Valley as we speak! Clint Eastwood is the last, lonely representative of a mythical breed — the badass. Oh sure, there are other tough-guy actors out there (Stallone, Schwarzenegger and other assorted Expendables) but they're all a little too oiled, chiseled and ready for their Men's Health cover shoots. Eastwood is old-school; the kind of gunslinger who survived his shoot-outs not by having bigger biceps, but because he's leaner, meaner and smarter than the bad guy. Men fear his squint, not his heavy artillery or super powers.
But though he's made a permanent cigarillo-chomping, growling, feel-lucky-punk badass crater on all of pop culture (there's no Wolverine or Jason Statham without Clint), Eastwood hasn't always played it hard and flinty. He's been beat up, left for dead, stuck behind a desk and lost and confused on the range. Though he seemed keen to end his acting career as cantankerous and trigger-happy as it began — "Get off my lawn!

Jeff Daniels has mastered many skills: gross-out comedy, Sorkinian speechifying, not harming those who confuse him with Dave Coulier. And that’s not all: Last night on Conan, the chameleonic actor revealed that he’s also an ace songwriter — as well as one of the (presumably) few people who can rib Clint Eastwood and live to tell the tale.

Last night on Conan, Jeff Daniels performed his very own "Dirty Harry Blues," written in homage to Blood Work co-star and Dumb and Dumber aficionado Clint Eastwood. Apparently, the Westerns vigilante truly empathizes with Harry Dunne in the gross toilet scene. Plus: Kevin Hart subbed in for Chelsea Handler and gave his take on the KStew vs. RPattz custody battle over their dog. "I promise you, if he gets that dog by 10 a.m., by 12 p.m., that dog will be in the shelter," Hart asserted, "Gotcha, bitch!" Also, Joan Rivers critiqued Rashida Jones's boobs on Watch What Happens Live; and poor Rosie Perez visited the Late, Late Show to promote Won't Back Down only to get slammed by a Craig Ferguson bombshell. "Do you smoke pot?" he grilled, "You know, sticky icky, the Willie Nelson?" Perez, still as stuck as a deer in headlights, leaned in and whispered,...

HollywoodNews.com: First images have surfaced for Robert Lorenz’s film Trouble with the Curve starring Academy Award Winner Clint Eastwood, Amy Adams, and Justin Timberlake. The film tells the story of an ailing baseball scout that takes his daughter along for one last recruiting trip.
This has been labeled the “final” acting performance from Clint Eastwood, whom has delivered when directed by himself in roles like Million Dollar Baby (2004). However, Eastwood has had a few hiccups in films like Gran Torino (2008) and Blood Work (2002). Is there a consensus out there for Eastwood to having an acting award to accompany his two directing Oscars? Either way, this is a project to keep an eye on for the rest of the season especially after the success of Bennett Miller?s Moneyball, which seemed to follow the same equation.

Assistant director Robert Lorenz worked on many Clint Eastwood films, including "Million Dollar Baby," "Blood Work," and "Mystic River." He's now making his directorial debut on the baseball drama "Trouble With the Curve," and has asked his friend Eastwood to take the starring role. Eastwood agreed and is now playing Gus, an aging Atlanta Braves scout with vision problems whose daughter, Mickey (Amy Adams), reluctantly agrees to be his eyes on a crucial recruiting trip. Eastwood is joined by Justin Timberlake, who plays Johnny, a rival young scout who happens to like and respect Gus. The rest of the cast includes John Goodman, Matthew Lillard, Matthew Lillard, and Scott Eastwood. The new movie is set to hit theaters on September 28th. Photos: (click to enlarge)...
