‘Elsbeth’ Flies To France
Paramount Global Content Distribution has licensed the highly anticipated CBS Studios series “Elsbeth” to TF1 in France.
Starring Emmy Award winner Carrie Preston, “Elsbeth” is based on the popular character of Elsbeth Tascioni, the astute but unconventional attorney featured in “The Good Wife” and “The Good Fight.” “The series has been highly sought after in the French territory and this agreement will provide TF1 viewers exclusive access to the series in the market,” Paramount Global Content Distribution said.
The new series finds Elsbeth in New York City tackling a new investigative role and working alongside the NYPD after leaving her successful legal career in Chicago.
“TF1 is delighted to welcome this new series, driven by the talent of the amazing Carrie Preston,” said Sophie Leveaux, Tfi’s artistic director of acquisitions and international drama development, noting that the “Good Wife” universe was adored by audiences. “‘Elsbeth...

Warning: contains Spoilers for X-23: Deadly Regenesis!Deadpool may have the ultimate healing factor, but a newly introduced weapon confirms that the technology to permanently kill Wade Wilson already exists in the Marvel Universe. No matter how many times he's shot, stabbed, blown up or irradiated, Deadpool will always shake it off and keep going because of how quickly his body repairs itself. He can even survive as a disembodied head, pushing the limits of biology with how crazily difficult he is to dispatch.
In X-23: Deadly Regenesis #1 by Erica Schultz and Edgar Salazar, the titular hero (who is Wolverine's biological daughter) finds herself facing off against Haymaker as he attempts to kill her. However, he knows that her healing factor puts them on an uneven playing field, since she can recover from any mortal wounds. So, to bring her down to his level, he launches a...

It’s been nearly two years since Katy Perry — one of several modern musical supernovae reflected in the beautiful, shattered-glass surfaces of “Vox Lux” — launched the campaign for her fifth album by declaring a new era of “purposeful pop.” No longer would her catchy-as-chlamydia radio anthems be mere teenage dreams of kissing California gurls last Friday night, apparently. Perry’s pop would show invigorated social and political resolve, leaving a woker, sparklier world in its wake. “I’ve seen behind the curtain, and I can’t go back,” Perry said, setting herself up for a media drubbing when the album, give or take some standard-issue empowerment mantras, sounded much like all its slickly enamelled predecessors.
For pop has always been purposeful, and its populist purpose tends to drive it away from the self — a quandary that Brady Corbet’s extraordinary second feature picks at with icy fascination. Powered in its...

“The Weeping Somnambulist” is taking its name off a humanitarian supply ship en-route to aid in the relief effort for Ganymede Station at the beginning of this chapter.
The opening of The Expanse Season 2 Episode 9 doesn’t hesitate to remind you there are large and looming questions this season.
What really happened on Ganymede—during the Earth-Mars military engagement And prior to those events?
And what is happening on Venus since Eros crashed there?
The title is a wordier way of saying “a crying sleepwalker" and that is almost an omen for how well-answered the lingering questions will be in this chapter.
Yes—the characters are all moving around the board, but they really won’t be passing “Go” just yet.
Well, this ship is a Grade-a piece of s*** but she’ll get us to Ganymede. I wouldn’t bet on it in a race, though…

The best, maybe only, reason to watch Arrow (CW, Wednesdays, 8 p.m.) is its star’s physicality. Canadian actor Stephen Amell (Regenesis, Hung) plays the title character, the alter ego of billionaire playboy Oliver Queen — a vigilante archer who slinks around at night à la Batman. Amell is intense and sincere. He has the barely suppressed smirk and Kubrickian I’m-gonna-eat-your-liver glare of the young Billy Zane, and although he has a bodybuilder’s torso, brawny and cut, he’s agile, too. The producers make sure to shoot bits and pieces of the show’s Cuisinart-edited action from a distance, so you know it’s him vaulting fences, doing upside-down sit-ups, and swinging from chains. At a press conference last summer, the show’s executive producer, Greg Berlanti (Everwood), said Amell does 25 percent of the show’s stunts; Amell later told reporters he would have corrected that figure to 75 percent...

The weekly round-up (with a few additional bits coming tomorrow):
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette talked to Syfy's Mark Stern at the Winter TCA Press Tour and they have an update on Blood and Chrome. Kind of, anyway. Here is what he says (more at the link):
Is the project dead? Read more after the jump. ...
"No not at all," said Syfy original programming president Mark Stern. "We're trying to figure out the economics right now. I love it but we're trying to put various things together to see how we're going to get it made. My hope is we get it figured out." (...)
Stern said the pilot was a good test to prove the technology could be used in series, although he acknowledged it will likely take a year to get the show on air after it's ordered due to the amount of post-production work that will be required on every episode.

In honor of Canada Day, we are republishing this post -- Ranylt's first on the site -- from Canada Day 2007.
July 1 is Canada Day, so while my compatriots are busy painting themselves red and perfecting their Maenadic howls in time for tonight's fireworks, I've been tasked with offering up a list of ten nifty Canadian films that are mostly off the radar outside of this country (and I throw my arms around you in delight if you're a foreigner who's actually seen any of these--French kisses for anyone who appreciates them, to boot).
Many readers seem familiar with Atom Egoyan's The Sweet Hereafter and Denys Arcand's The Decline of the American Empire. And David Cronenberg's body of work needs no introduction thanks to The Fly, Naked Lunch, Scanners, Crash (the other Crash!) and Videodrome. As unnatural as it is to omit Egoyan, Arcand and Cronenberg from a Canadian film overview,...

South African actor Sharlto Copley came out of nowhere to amaze people with his performance as Wikus Van De Merwe in Neill Blomkamp's District 9 and has since gone on to land the role of Murdock in The A-Team. But did you know that before District 9 he was already hard at work writing and directing a movie of his own? Copley and partner Simon Hansen have been developing a mysterious project called Spoon for a few years now, and it sounds like it will finally be released sometime in the near future. The good folks over at Twitch [1] got their hands on the very first teaser trailer, and although it doesn't show much, the premise is intriguing. Spoon is a supernatural thriller revolving around a man with a strange medical condition who blacks out during periods of extreme stress, causing strange things to happen. It stars TV actor Darren Boyd (Saxondale,...

I gotta say, I’m loving the trajectory of Rutger Hauer’s career over the last few years. The aging action star is popping up in all sorts of great films and this could well be another.
South African actor Sharlto Copley (now semi-recognized for his performance in last year’s District 9 (review)) didn’t always want to be a movie star; he actually started his career as a producer with aspirations of directing and here’s his first effort. Spoon stars Hauer as Victor Spoon and Darren Boyd (familiar to me from his appearances in the great Canadian show “ReGenesis” though others may recognize him from his regular appearances on a number of British shows) as Daniel Spoon, a man with a medical condition which causes him to black when under extreme stress. When he sets off to figure out what's happening to him, he makes a "remarkable discovery about himself.
