Bollywood star Karisma Kapoor shows off her star power in Zee Studios’ noir thriller “Brown,” the only Indian show at the Berlin Series Market Selects platform.

Kapoor, one of the top movie stars in India in the 1990s and early 2000s, took a hiatus to devote time to her young family. She made a comeback with parenting-themed series “Mentalhood” for streamer ALTBalaji in 2020. “Brown” is her first acting gig since then.

The series is based on the 2016 novel “City of Death” by Abheek Barua, adapted by Diggi Sisodia, Sunayana Kumari and Mayukh Ghosh and directed by Abhinay Deo (“24: India”). It follows Rita Brown (Kapoor), a world-weary, recovering alcoholic, ace detective in the Kolkata police force belonging to the city’s small but influential Anglo-Indian community, who is assigned to the murder case of a young woman from a well-connected family.

ALTBalaji, the streaming service started by Ektaa R. Kapoor, the undisputed queen of Indian television, turned five a few days ago. The streamer is part of Balaji Telefilms, which was started by her and her parents Jeetendra Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor in 1994 and is the single largest television content producer in South Asia.

Recently, the hitherto SVOD-only ALTBalaji added an AVOD offering, which caters to 10 million monthly active users. Overall, the platform has 35 million subscribers with 2.9 subscriptions sold in the first quarter of 2022 alone. From launch, the streamer’s goal was to tap into the smaller towns and cities, beyond the metropolitan urban agglomerations. It has been so successful that its larger rivals are emulating it.

There are 91 originals streaming, with several more in the pipeline. The SVOD plans are eminently affordable, costing $4 for 12 months, $2.60 for six months or $1.30 for two months.

Mumbai, Sep 4 (Ians) Actress Karisma Kapoor reminisced about the time when she was shooting with superstar Salman Khan in Mauritius.

In a Friday afternoon post on Instagram, Karisma shared a still from the song "Pyaar dilon ka mela hai", which was shot on her and Salman in the 2000 release, "Dulhan Hum Le Jayenge".

"I vividly remember the sun was setting and we needed to get this shot done while sk was making us all laugh.. fun times in #mauritius Guess the film and song ?" she wrote as caption, with the tags #flashbackfriday #guessinggame #memories.

Karisma recently shared that she finds happiness in simple little things. She took to Instagram and posted a picture sitting on her balcony. She makes a casual statement in a black T-shirt and blue jeans in the image.

Actress Karisma Kapoor's daughter Samaira has featured in a short film "Daud", which is directed by Ananya Panday's younger sister Rysa Panday.
