As the entire television ecosystem has been upended in recent years, dedicated spaces for YA content have all but disappeared. The CW swiftly cancelled nearly all of its scripted series, many of which targeted this audience, over the last few years. Freeform has done the same.

The streamers have largely taken up the mantle on speaking to young audiences, but still questions remain. With the rise of short-form content thanks to TikTok and YouTube, does this new generation of teens and young adults even care for longform, scripted content? How can streamers compete for Gen Z’s attention in such a fractured landscape?

The series was originally picked up at Prime Video in March 2023. It is based on the E. Lockhart YA novel of the same name. The show is based on Sara Frey’s recently published The Growing Season: How I Built a New Life–and Saved an American Farm. Hitting shelves back in August, Frey’s memoir detailed the hardscrabble shift the rule breaking author made from rural poverty to creating a widely successfully family business that has now seen her dubbed “America’s Pumpkin Queen.”

Peacock has acquired BBC One’s young adult drama series “Noughts and Crosses.”

Now a Peacock Original, the six-episode series, which reimages racial power structures in an alternate world, will begin streaming on Sept. 4. It originally aired on BBC One in March.

Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said Thursday during the company’s third-quarter earnings call that a sequel to Knives Out is officially a go, hinting that a production start for a follow-up to the money-making and critically acclaimed Rian Johnson whodunit is imminent.

The news comes as the film starring Daniel Craig, which earned Johnson his first Oscar nomination for his Original Screenplay, is nearing the $300 million mark at the worldwide box office. It was one of three films to come out during Lionsgate’s fiscal Q3 along with Midway and Bombshell. As a result, film revenue rose 30% in the quarter, the company said.

Things are finally starting to feel real for Lara Jean (Lana Condor) in the first trailer for the sequel to 2018’s teen rom-com smash “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.” But just as her whirlwind of a romance is taking shape, another one of her old love letters comes back into the picture.

“To All the Boys P.S. I Still Love You” is Netflix’s follow-up to the 2018 film, and it stars Condor, who is still in love with high school hunk Peter, who is played by Noah Centineo.

Exclusive: After successfully adapting Jay Asher’s Ya novel 13 Reasons Why into one of Netflix’s most popular series, Brian Yorkey is taking on another teen novel for the streaming giant.

Yorkey has teamed with bestselling Ya author Neal Shusterman to turn Shusterman’s upcoming book Game Changer into a drama TV series. The project is in development at Netflix, I have learned.

Yorkey and Shusterman are writing together the adaptation, with Yorkey set as showrunners. The two executive produce with Underground’s Trevor Engelson. Josh McGuire from Underground is producing. Overseeing for Yorkey’s That Kid Ed banner are Kat Ramsburg and Jeff Sommerville.

Little is known about Game Changer, which is being published by HarperCollins’ Harper Teen label. Netflix bought the rights to the novel preemptively ahead of its scheduled September 2020 release.

Niall Horan has dropped a brand-new single “Put a Little Love on Me” along with an accompanying music video. The video, shot in Los Angeles with director Cameron Busby, sees Horan performing the emotional track at a grand piano as a red-clad dancer spins around him.

Melina Marchetta’s young adult novel “On the Jellicoe Road” is being adapted for TV by Germany’s Zdf Enterprises, Australia’s Werner Film, and Wild Sheep Content, the fledgling production outfit formed by Erik Barmack, Netflix’s former head of international originals.

Australian author Marchetta’s book was first published in 2006 in Australia. It was published in the U.S. in 2008 with the shortened title “Jellicoe Road.”

The story centers on 17-year-old Taylor Markham, leader of an underground community at a boarding school. Abandoned by her mother when she was 11, and with little recollection of her father, Taylor has only her mentor and guardian Hannah as an adult influence in her life, who suddenly vanishes. There is also a territory war going on between the boarders, the kids from the local town, and a group of cadets training locally.

Exclusive: Fox has given a script commitment with substantial penalty to a drama revolving around female FBI agents from The Resident supervising producer Jen Klein; executive producer/showrunner Todd Harthan; and 20th Century Fox TV, where Harthan is under an overall deal.

Written by Klein, the Untitled FBI Women Project is a fast-paced, character-driven drama centering on four female FBI agents in the Manhattan field office inspired by journalist and author Doug Stanton’s interviews of women in law enforcement. These women juggle complicated personal lives while playing at the top of their professional game. Their friendship is a source of strength and camaraderie as they work together on high-stakes cases while also navigating the dangerously messy politics of one of the most powerful intelligence agencies in the world.

Showtime has given a pilot greenlight to Yellowjackets, a drama from writers Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson (Narcos), Entertainment One and studio-based producer Drew Comins. Karyn Kusama (Destroyer) will direct and executive produce the pilot, a co-production of Showtime and Entertainment One. Production begins this fall in Los Angeles.

Written by Lyle and Nickerson, Yellowjackets is equal parts survival epic, horror story and coming-of-age drama and relates the narrative of a team of wildly talented high school girls soccer players who become the (un)lucky survivors of a plane crash deep in the Ontario wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to warring, cannibalistic clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together nearly 25 years later, proving that the past is never really past and what began out in the wilderness is far from over.

Twins Bianca D'Ambrosio and Chiara D'Ambrosio are set to star in a new young adult spinoff of Emmy and Indie Series Award winning The Bay titled yA.

Currently in pre-production, yA is co-written by original series creator and showrunner Gregori J. Martin and former General Hospital executive producer Wendy Riche. The show will be be co-directed by Martin and The Bay star Kristos Andrews, with principal photography set to begin next month.

Andrews' character, Pete Garrett, from The Bay will crossover to the series along with Lane Davies as Capt. Mackenzie Johnson, Dante Aleksander as Xander Castro, and Michael Copon as Colton Kurosaki.

Mike C. Manning (Teen Wolf) is also attached to the series with additional attachments to be announced.
