2025 has a major line-up of fantasy movies set for release, including some heavy-hitting franchises and a few wholly original films. January starts off strong with Wolf Man, a reinvention of the classic Universal Horror monster movie directed by Saw co-creator Leigh Wannel. February will be absolutely packed, with the feature-length animated spinoff of Netflix's The Witcher, Sirens of the Deep, as well as the George R. R. Martin-derived In the Lost Lands and A24's fantasy adventure The Legend of Ochi.

Spring will blossom with even more excitement as the animal-zombie-comedy Night of the Zoopocalypse and new live-action Disney adaptation Snow White hit in March, followed by A Minecraft Movie in April and A Big Bold Beautiful Journey in May. Summer brings another live-action update of a classic with How to Train Your Dragon, while the back half of the year is packed with Maggie Gyllenhaal's musical of Frankenstein The Bride!

The Sundance Film Festival might be moving in 2028, but until then, it’s parking itself back in Park City for another edition of what are expected to be just under 100 features and 50 shorts. The second Sundance under the supervision of new festival director (and IndieWire co-founder) Eugene Hernandez takes place January 23 through February 2, with the lineup expecting to start trickling out next week.

In mouth-watering casting news, MRC said on Monday that Margot Robbie will star as Catherine Earnshaw opposite fellow Australian Jacob Elordi as Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s upcoming adaptation of Wuthering Heights. The film will shoot in the UK.

Robbie’s LuckyChap will produce the adaptation of Emily Brontë’s mid-19th century gothic tale of obsession and desire which has fascinated film and television producers for nearly a century.

Fennell will write, direct and produce Wuthering Heights, which MRC said on Monday is in pre-production ahead of a UK shoot in 2025. MRC is financing the production.

On the heels of their surprise box office smash “It Ends With Us,” Sony Pictures is dating its next female event movie with Margot Robbie’s “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” co-starring Colin Farrell, set to open on May 9, 2025. Yes, that is Mother’s Day weekend.

The film, which features Robbie’s first post-“Barbie” role, hails from Imperative Entertainment and 30West. It is described as an original tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them. The film also stars Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater.

“A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” was directed by Kogonada, who recently teamed with Farrell on “After Yang.” It was written by Seth Reiss. Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, Seth Reiss and Youree Henley serve as producers, while the executive producers are Kogonada, Ilene Feldman and Ori Eisen.

30West is financing the film, with Sony Pictures releasing the film in theaters globally.

Also starring Colin Farrell, the pic comes from Imperative Entertainment and 30West and is billed as an original tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey is from acclaimed filmmaker Kogonada and was written by Seth Reiss. Movie is produced by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, Seth Reiss and Youree Henley. EPs are Kogonada, Ilene Feldman and Ori Eisen.
