    No planetary defenses?

A ship can just crash on a city with no attempt to prevent or even prepare? We have space object tracking in real life right now. I know it's not a documentary, but it's hard to suspend disbelief for that.

Horror and retro aesthetic are really good though. And all the nods to the earlier films are nicely done.

Great start with some nice fan service and fresh ideas and plot

The beginning of this episode is such a nice fan service: A lot of references to the first Alien movie - i.e. Set design (dispite the prequels Alien Prometheus (2012) and Alien Covenant (2017) with their more advanced technology than Alien (1979) this show does it like Alien Romulus (2024) and keeps the retro look known from Alien (1979)), the awakening of the crew and their 'breakfast scene', Mother.

New fresh ideas, the corporation Prodigy vs Weyland-Yutani, Cyborgs, Synths and Hybrids. Some references to 'Blade Runner' (Timothy Olyphant resembles to Rudger Hauer) and 'Battle Angel Alita' (the character Wendy has to learn who or what she is).

Noah Hawley - creator, producer, screenwriter and director of this first episode, known i.e. The tv shows 'Fargo' and the best Marvel show 'Legion', promises great storytelling, well written characters, suspense, mystery and entertainment.

Great look and sound design, cool creature design, interesting world building, good sfx.

This first episode is a great start and gets you hooked.

    A quality first episode.

    This time, it's on Earth.

There are so many references to the past. If you're a fan of the first two masterpieces and some of the later films, you'll enjoy the efforts.

I was a little concerned; you never know quite how shows like this will play out, but I thought it was a banging start. I thoroughly enjoyed this series opener, with plenty of tension, excitement, and some fine storytelling.

There is so much potential here. They've built up a fascinating future-a world of synths and cyborgs. We have the interest of what's really going on with the children. Are they simply being saved, or is there something more malevolent at play? Plus, we have the introduction of the alien threat.

We know what's coming; we just don't quite know when. My issue is: how on Earth (no pun intended) did no warning or alert get through? It made no sense, no radars, no alarms, no shouts of 'incoming ship!?' A little bit sloppy.

There are plenty of well-known faces from The States and the UK, with fine performances all around. Great set designs; they really took us back to the first movie, the visuals in general were terrific.

Great start, and yes it's very Disney.

    9/10.

Episode 1 (As an "Alien" franchise fan)

As an introductory episode, I think it's spectacular. I love that Ridley Scott is continuing his legacy within this series, and that Disney has the budget to amend his desires for it xD. Jokes aside, I am extremely excited for this show as a whole, the cast, acting, VFX, CGI, budget, and authenticity to the Alien franchise all seems on track and I'm all for it! Excited to see where this goes, all in all, episode 1, banger! Enjoy and goodluck!

    Chaotic and inconsistent storytelling

The overall premise was sound enough... A research vessel crashes to Earth after some of its specimen got loose (by the way.. how did they got loose? They were confined during most of the trip back and they got loose close to Jupiter's orbit?).

Then, things start to get weird. The doctor of an emergency response team wasn't actually a doctor? One of the big corporations who runs the world sends a bunch of kids (albeit, in enhanced bodies) to a disaster area with an unknown spacecraft? Really? Nobody had any hint of an idea how to do anything in such an environment, yet they went anyway?... Besides, the director's job looks terrible. I am no formal expert on cinematography, but I have seen many, many movies and series and this one looks wrong. The spotty takes of the disaster aboard the ship when some aliens get loose are terrible. The whole chapter is terribly boring.

I hope future episodes will improve. Episode 2 isn't better than episode 1...

    • Trivia
The Weyland-Yutani science vessel is named USCSS Maginot. Likely named after the Maginot Line, a defense system consisting of concrete fortifications, obstacles like moats & tank traps, and weapon emplacements like retractable machine gun turrets, anti-tank guns, and long range artillery. It was built in northeast France between 1929-1938 and named after its principal creator, André Maginot, who was France's minister of war from 1922-1924 & 1929-1932. Its main purpose was to stop another German attack, like the one that devastated the country in World War I. However, it was a failure for various reasons, including poor planning that caused gaps in the fortifications along the nation's borders (especially with Belgium), allowing the German army to bypass the western line by violating Belgium's borders to go around it at the start of World War II. Thus, "Maginot Line" has since become a metaphor for expensive and/or elaborate defenses that are inherently flawed, and offer a false sense of security.

When Morrow is in the control room accessing Mother, the green lettering on the computer screen where he has just typed "Crew: Dead" is reflected perfectly on his face, where it should have reflected backwards as a mirror image.

Kirsh: You used to be food, you know.

      Wendy: Me?

Kirsh: Humanity. Your lives were short and filled with fear. Then your brains grew. You built tools and used them to conquer nature. You built impossible machines and went to space. You stopped being food. Or, I should say, you told yourself, you weren't food anymore. But in the animal kingdom, there is always someone bigger, or smaller, who would eat you alive if they had the chance. That's what it is to be an animal. You're born, you live, you die.
