I need to start off by saying that I'm a huge fan of just about everything Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, 1923, 1883, Tulsa King, Lioness, Sicario, He'll or Highwater, Wind River, etc, etc.). He hits home run after home run and Landman is no different. It's another hit for Sheridan. Landman takes place in modern day Texas where everyone from billionaires to roughnecks are trying to get rich in the oil industry. This series follows Tommy Norris (Billy Bob Thornton) as he tried to take his company to the top during the oil fuel boom. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good new series to watch, especially if you're a fan of Taylor Sheridan.

For someone so focused on his goals, the inclusion of an emotionally unstable, one-woman circus undermines the purpose of the show entirely. It feels like her character disrupts the central narrative, adding unnecessary chaos rather than supporting his journey. The portrayal doesn't enhance the storyline but instead makes it harder to take his determination and focus seriously.
Similarly, the roles of both his wife and daughter feel out of place within the series. The wife comes across as emotionally erratic, while the daughter seems to lack intellectual depth, making her contributions to the plot negligible. The daughter's portrayal feels particularly shallow, with her character offering little beyond surface-level engagement, which doesn't add value to the story.
Moreover, having these characters constantly jump around in provocative clothing, seemingly for no purpose other than to attract views, feels out of sync with the tone of the series. Instead of enhancing the plot or character dynamics, this approach comes off as a superficial tactic to draw attention. It's a strange and unneeded addition that detracts from the overall quality of the narrative.

This show reminded me so much of Saturday Night Lights and Yelllowstone (but an oilfield version rather). The first episode started a bit slow but quickly grabbed my attention halfway through. It is so good and I believe it is going to get very popular. Billy Bob Thornton is magnificent as per usual. He is one of those actors that really can do any role and make it his own. Not sure why they call it Landman really. I think a better title would have grabbed people's attention more but then again Yellowstone is not that great of a title either and it managed to go big. I hope we have many more season ahead that are not years apart. This show is going to be ratings gold for MTV.
Very entertaining, with the most accurate description of the oil business & it's true value I've ever heard. Billy Bob knocks it outa the park with his witty gritty savvy role. Go hang out in Odessa Texas for awhile, and drive around the country, you'll see a thriving energy business with the roughest toughest hardest working guys around. Hamm does a good job of portraying a Midland oil executive with his daughter in expensive TCU and living in first class fashion. Ali Larter also in a pretty accurate roll as a rich demanding oil field wife, where nothing is too good for her indulgent tastes. BBT holds everything together with his west Texas sense of a moral & ethical code of the west, where rules are bent for the greater good, and often the lesser of two evils. Watch the scene in episode 3 where Tommy enumerates exactly why the wind farms & everything else relies on the oil energy business. Mega kudos to Taylor Sheridan for getting this right.
I love this show. I've never watched a Taylor Sheridan show (I much prefer Ryan Murphy or Dick Wolfe shows) so I watched it for Billy Bob Thornton. He's GREAT in this show. I think it's one of his best roles yet. The rest of the characters are mixed. The ex-wife is annoying, but that just ads to the subtle humor when Billy Bob refuses to play her games. The daughter needs to be a bit more respectful of her "roommates" and put some damn clothes on while walking around the house. The son is an idiot. He wants to run a oil company but he drops out of college one semester short of having a geology degree? He wants to learn the biz from "the ground up". Um, kid? You can do that a lot better with the degree. The attorney is pretty droll and a good sidekick to Thornton. Hamm isn't bad, he has the typical obnoxious entitled selfish rich Texan attitude down perfectly. There haven't been that many scenes with Demi Moore in them so I don't know how her character is going to develop. I can't speak for the oil biz angle, but overall the Texas big biz attitude is spot on.
Landman is another hit in a long line of them for Taylor Sheridan. This has everything you want in a good series, it has plenty of drama, action, twists, even a little comedy, etc. It's obviously beautifully written because everything Sheridan does is but it also has an amazing cast. It stars the incredible Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, Ali Larter, Demi Moore, among others. Billy Bob Thornton was born to plays this role, he is absolutely terrific here. I'll be shocked if he doesn't get nominated for an Emmy for his performance here. Same goes for Hamm. Besides being beautifully written and acted, it's also beautifully shot too. Sheridan has so many great shows to his name and Landman is among the best of them. This look like it's going to have a long run and I'm here for it.
Landman is a gripping exploration of the oil business, offering a rare and unflinching look at the challenges, ambitions, and personal sacrifices involved in the industry.
It dives into the nitty-gritty of the industry, showing just how tough and complex it is, and it doesn't sugarcoat anything. The realism here is undeniable, and you really feel like you're getting an inside look at something most of us take for granted.
Billy Bob Thornton is, as always, phenomenal. He's so good at playing characters who are rough around the edges but deeply compelling. However, I have to agree with some of the negative reviews about his character's family drama-it's not my favorite part of the show either. It's a bit too much at times, but I get why it's there. Family dynamics, love them or hate them, are part of the reality the show's aiming to capture.
That said, Episode 4, The Sting of Second Chances, absolutely blew me away. This episode introduced a new kind of energy with the lawyer character-she's a total powerhouse and a perfect foil to Billy's character's wife. Watching her crush the arrogant lawyers in the deposition scene was one of those "stand up and clap" moments. Her speech was fire, and she completely flipped the situation. It was inspiring to see someone so smart and unshakable carve her place in such a male-dominated business. Watching her tell them to draft a surrender instead of a settlement was one of the most satisfying moments I've seen in a while.
Another standout storyline is Billy's son, who's determined to build or run his own oil company from the ground up. His drive and ambition are inspiring, especially when he tells his dad, "I have the dream. Not a play yet, but I'll figure it out." That line stuck with me. It captures the heart of the show-grit, ambition, and navigating the hard truths of life and business.
Overall, Landman is worth watching, even if you're clueless about the oil industry like I was. It's deep, intense, and gives you a glimpse into an industry we all depend on but rarely think about.
What I love most about Landman is how it captures the dual nature of chasing a dream.
It's not just about success; it's about enduring the failures, the wins, and everything in between. The series reflects this beautifully, and it's a lesson for entrepreneurs, business owners, or anyone striving toward a big goal.
Overall, it's a deep, thought-provoking show that's as much about the human spirit as it is about the oil industry. Highly recommend!

Who wrote the characters for the daughter and mother/wife? Because those characters are AWFUL. No 17 year old girl speaks with their father that way. It's extremely cringy and uncomfortable. Not only does she not act like a teenager around her father, she looks about 10 years too old to be 17. Maybe that's to balance out the creep factor in her lines? The mother/wife is insufferable and has an attitude that makes me want to skip past her parts. Is there going to be a female character that is actually likeable and doesn't just act like a sexed up twit?
It would be nice because the rest of the show is great.

Just three episodes in.
Billy bob Thornton is welcome back to Texas since his Friday Nights in 2006.
The feeling is Yellowstone and this is welcome, series with some reality versus superheroes and fantasy.
Based in the Permian basin Oilfield , great casting so far! Interesting people and storylines...
We Oilfield guys are shaking our heads at the inaccuracies of the field life and explosions/blow outs.
The technical failures in the first three episodes are embarrassing and your technical consultant got everything wrong in the Blowout scene.
A stuck old valve, the 24 inch Pipe wrench (applied upside down being hammered near to the top? 100% wrong.
You need torque, No Cheater pipe tried first? No hammer unless a brass hammer (ie no sparks)?
No experienced Oilfield downstream crew would ever have done this. A shambolic Technical director.
Billy is then seen as a 'Landman' trying to shut down a blowout (Never seen a Landman on location). Experienced and again places the wrench upside down and hits his own finger ? Just ridiculous.
Hey-Ho , Hollywood. Staying for the story !
PS ex Oilfield and commenting for many on my ex Oilfield group reactions.

The good: the story line and the acting. The bad: everything else! This is not even close to how the oil patch works, but let's make it this was for dramatic effect. Semi's that honk long before they brake, people who don't know how to get out of the way, barely used paved private roads that loose hundreds of thousands $ when blocked, latte ordering greenhorn with no safety training, failure to do shutdown procedures before maintenance, using a pipe wrench with a hammer instead of a cheater bar, using a pipe wrench backwards, a pipe connection that just vibrates loose, incompetent police and firefighters, a crazy "17" year old that shows nothing but skin. Taylor Sheridan is riding this wave as far as he can, but the tide is receding. Too many irons in the fire and the quality is starting to suffer with all of his shows. Tough talking and yelling doesn't make it suspenseful or intelligent.

I apparently am a sucker for Taylor Sheridan shows. They're well written and entertaining. I'd gladly watch anything with his make attached to it at this point. But what's with the girl in her underwear and the creepy sexualization of her? It's grossly gratuitous. It's extremely
weird how obnoxious she is with it. It's almost that much of a turn off to not want to watch. I AM invested in the story tho so far. I'm also not getting why the woman are so utterly unlikeable. The ex wife is just ugggh. It's truly a head scratcher. Is the show just geared towards drawing men? Love Billy Bob tho. He's always plus.
We are very bored with most of what is on tv for a while now and thanks to Taylor Sheridan( The creator of Yellowstone) and Billy Bob Thornton this one is worth watching.
Billy Bob Thornton is once again delivering a awesome performance on this series "Landman". Thank you Billy for picking winner series to act in. My wife and I f love this series so far and find it to be very exciting and many times there are a lot of funny parts thrown into the mix. We had quite a few laughs with the scripts they have to say. This is a 'must see' series and looking forward to watching the next episode and hopefully having many seasons of this series.

Not sure why all the criticism. Seems pretty realistic given that we're examining the oil industry. What do people think this business is like. While the situations may seem a little cringey with the family dynamics, how much different is it from the Duttons. I found the story line pretty riveting so far with the first two episodes. I am looking forward to the rest of the season, having lived in oil country I am pretty curious about how this will play out. The power dynamics don't seem any different than any huge money making industry. If you can't handle vulgarity, watch the Hallmark Channel. I think this is going continue to be great.

If you were a fan of Mayor of Kingstown, you will like this show as well. Even the opening credits are similar in style and cinematography, guess that's a Taylor Sheridan trademark. Billy Bob Thornton delivers his grizzled, snarky, no nonsense lines with typical Billy Bob Thornton sarcasm. There's one scene in one of the first few episodes where Thornton's character gives a long speech about the necessity of petroleum in every area of our lives, which definitely sounds like propaganda written into the script the oil industry, but none of what he says is untrue. Kind of funny that the first few episodes are sponsored by the American petroleum Institute and feature ads showing oil and petroleum workers. Overall I think this is going to be a great show, the writing is great, the acting is great, and the characters are very human.

This series has made me laugh so hard; oh my gosh, Billy Bob Thornton is hilarious. I'm enjoying every moment of this show. I'm also enjoying the supporting cast. I have loved all of Taylor Sheridan's shows. I have not found one. I have not liked this or Yellowstone. It's hard not to choose, but I look forward to the rest of the series to see how he develops the characters and some background story. Even my partner, who doesn't like a lot of shows, enjoyed it and laughed. It grabbed my attention. I'm surprised that there's always somewhere you know I lost it, but I was so engaged especially with my ADHD 😂

A little embellished from the real thing, although I work Canadian oilfield, not Middland, TX, so maybe I'm wrong. I think it's ramping up to be a good 2 or 3 seasoner.
The only reason I submit this though, is to ask the producers, and those of many other entertaining shows, to please take the seconds it takes to put a gearshift in drive while filming driving scenes. Or maybe this is intended error to entice complainers like myself and hype it up. Looking forward to episode 3. Another 119 characters required to complete this submission. Do all women in Texas look like this? If so I would like to relocate my oilfield career.

I liked the scenes, with Billybob Thornton except, the ones ,with his daughter. She ,over acted and there's one scene where her boyfriend is told to sleep alone on the couch. She,is supposed to sleep in her father's bed. She ,doesn't wear pajamas and gets in bed with him wearing underwear. It is so gross ! The next day it's all about her wearing a g string bikini. It's so over the top ,She wear Crisco oil for her suntan ,what a surprise She ,can't find her suntan oil. I ,always like billybob and will continue watching this series. I ,hope his daughter finds some clothes to put on first though. The series, starts out a little vague but once ,you get past the first episode you find a little interest in the characters.i find that it's a down on his luck oil man struggling day by day
to make end meet . Also the son needs directions and take some initiative for the things that happened in the first episode.
But the daughter treats her father as a pimp and is very immature. The Also have a over abundance of dropping the F bombs.there is also a ex wife who is very self absorbed. And wants control but has no control over herself much less help with her troubled children that are well into there 20s.
If changes are made this could be a decent series.

The writing is too intellectual to be believable. No one believes that anyone talks like that especially in Midland or Odessa. Everyone is over-acting. Too many pointless shots of staring, burning, driving the car, parking the car. Female characters are one dimensional and not one likeable. How about we don't sexualized children? What kind of father lets his daughter run around with her booty out like that and speaks to her father about her sex life? Very unbelievable and disgusting. Seems like a lot of wasted talent. The most interesting aspect of the show is the gas and oil industry and I'm not even sure how realistic that is.

I don't particularly don't know how paramount work, but i just hope they be like Apple TV and not Netflix! Netflix doesn't even give their work a chance to work. But Apple TV do them to the fault, and that's what i love about them.
The point being, i and many others, are loving this series and want all of it. Don't cancel it.
As the series itself, i never watched any of its trailers. But i was triggered by how many are watching it and loving it. Then i saw its cast. And i was amazed by it. Billy billy! And Ali Larter? That blow me! I first noticed. Billy Bob Thornton in Goliath and i loved it. And Ali Larter in resident evil's movies. So i had to watch it. And i am glad i did. It is a lovely series. It is sexy and has a beautiful story.
On the side note, i hope Billy Bob gets the Kayla Wallace! I want him tap that hottie! I can hope!
I do recommend this one to everybody.

You can clearly notice a difference between the first two episodes directed by Taylor Sheridan, who is also the creator of this awesome tv series, and the third episode directed by another person. You cannot fake pure talent and craftmanship. Taylor Sheridan has become one of my favourite directors and producers, he is also the director of that great surprise of a movie called Wind River and the writer of Hell Or High Water. In my book he is up there alongside the great ones like Ridley Scott, James Cameron, David Fincher, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese and a few others that are really born to make great movies. Especially in a time when untalented directors are chosen to make movies by politically correct reasons and not by merrit, we can only appreciate even more art makers like Taylor Sheridan. The only downside of this tv series is that he is directing only the first 2 episodes, which they are both 10/10, the 3rd episode beeing only a 7. I have noticed in several tv series that actors act different depending on who is the director of the episode. So please Mr. Sheridan when you make another tv series, direct all episodes, because people who love great movies and are aware of the details that make them masterclass level ,want the full experience. And only the chosen ones like yourself can deliver.
