As the old adage goes, the truth is often far stranger than fiction. But in Samantha Strauss' upcoming Netflix show Apple Cider Vinegar, it would appear that sometimes a lie is even more bizarre. Based on the noodle-twisting true life tale of how Australian influencer and wellness guru Belle Gibson duped millions online into believing she'd cured her terminal brain cancer through healthy living (she was never diagnosed with a brain tumour to have been cured of one), Strauss' six-episode limited series is set to see Kaitlyn Dever take on the role of the duplicitous social media star. And you can check out the first trailer for the show below:
Advertised as 'A true-ish story based on a lie', whilst Strauss' show may come under the umbrella of true crime, the trailer for Apple Cider Vinegar promises that Gibson's deception is only the tip of the iceberg of the show's preoccupations.

Are you hooked on gritty true crime series but wish they could occasionally be more colorful, female and fun? Well, Netflix might just have the next show for you.
The streamer is revealing a sneak peek Tuesday of its forthcoming Australian limited series Apple Cider Vinegar, a playfully fictionalized take on the story of Belle Gibson, the Australian single mother who launched a wellness empire by convincing the world she had brain cancer but was successfully curing herself with an all-natural lifestyle.
“This is a true-ish story based on a lie, about the rise and fall of a wellness empire; the culture that built it up and the people who tore it down,” Netflix’s official summary reads.
Netflix unveiled a batch of first-look images and a teaser video this morning featuring star Kaitlyn Dever (Booksmart, Dopesick, Unbelievable) as Belle during various stages of her improbable journey from anonymous striver to globally disgraced grifter.

Everything We Know About Max’s Sweethearts Starring Kiernan Shipka and Nico Hiraga - Main Image
The rom-com genre may not be as prevalent as it once was, but it looks like there is still a niche out there for raunchy comedies aimed at young adults. HBO has dropped a first look at their upcoming movie Sweethearts starring Kiernan Shipka (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Nico Hiraga (Booksmart), and it looks like a fun time.
The movie is set to come out on Thanksgiving Day, and we take a look at the film and everything we know about it so far; from the great cast to the director.
What’s So Sweet About Sweethearts?
Seeing the title and the premise, it does look like Sweethearts is supposed to come from the term “High School Sweethearts”, and the movie has Shipka and Hiraga playing friends who make a pact to break...

How do two best friends break up with their respective high school sweethearts?
Well, for starters, it helps to time any split to a holiday, especially Thanksgiving break. Rom-com film “Sweethearts” stars Kiernan Shipka and “Booksmart” alum Nico Hiraga as college freshmen who make a pact to break up with their high school sweethearts over Thanksgiving break, leading them on a chaotic night out in their hometown that puts their codependent friendship to the test.
“Severance” actor Tramell Tillman, Joel Kim Booster, Ava Demary, Charlie Hall, and Christine Taylor also star.
“Dollface” creator Jordan Weiss makes her directorial debut with the feature that she co-wrote with Dan Brier. The film is from New Line Cinema and Picturestart, with Picturestart’s Erik Feig and Jessica Switch producing. The executive producers include Picturestart’s Julia Hammer, Samie Kim Falvey, and Shayne Fiske Goldner, as well as writer/director Weiss and writer Brier.

Billie Lourd paid tribute to Carrie Fisher on what would’ve been her mother’s 68th birthday. The “Star Wars” icon died on Dec. 27, 2016, at the age of 60.
“Dead person birthdays are weird to say the least,” Lourd wrote on Instagram Monday. “On my mom’s birthday every year, I try to celebrate her as much as possible, but today I really wanted to celebrate her with her. Some years my grief makes me feel the warmth of her love, some years it makes me angry, some years I feel numb but today when I woke up I just felt sad. I didn’t want to celebrate, I just wanted my mom.”
Lourd added that, amid her grief, she googled the average age of death among women, which is listed at 80.2 years. “My mom died when she was 60. 60 is too damn young to die,” the “Booksmart” actor said.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s next comedy will be Ladies First – a remake of French film I Am Not An Easy Man.
Sacha Baron Cohen has had no shortage of comedy roles in the last few years, from his terrific satirical television series Who Is America? to Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm, which saw him revisit one of his most popular characters alongside a star-making turn from Maria Bakalova. There was also a report last year that Baron Cohen was working on a live tour, which would see him revisit his breakout character Ali G, but there have been no further updates on that front.
According to Deadline, though, Cohen’s next film will be Ladies First, a remake of the 2018 French film I Am Not An Easy Man, which was written and directed by Éléonore Pourriat.
The synopsis for the original film reads as follows:

The second season of HBO's hit series "The Last of Us" — based on the beloved video game of the same name created by Neil Druckmann and Naughty Dog — won't start airing until 2025, but fans finally got a longer look at the sophomore outing.
Before this trailer, audiences only got a tiny glimpse of season 2 of "The Last of Us" in a sizzle reel for Max that arrived back in August and showed off footage from other 2025 shows, including season 3 of "The White Lotus" and the new "Game of Thrones" spinoff "A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms." That little tease prominently featured Catherine O'Hara's new character — and we don't know what her deal is quite yet — and based on the brief dialogue between her character and Joel (Pedro Pascal), fans concluded that the story will pick up shortly after the events of the season 1 finale of "The Last of Us.

Olivia Wilde and Beanie Feldstein had a mini “Booksmart” reunion Tuesday at Chanel and Tribeca Film Festival’s Through Her Lens luncheon in New York City.
Wilde and Feldstein are jurors for this year’s Tribeca Chanel women’s filmmaker program, which provides industry support and artistic development to 10 self-identifying women and non-binary filmmakers. The jury will decide which of these emerging filmmakers will receive full funding and support from Tribeca Studios to create a short film.
“I’m thrilled that I get to be on this jury with Beanie and to deliberate together because her taste is unmatched,” Wilde told Variety on the carpet for the Through Her Lens luncheon at Locanda Verde, the Italian restaurant in Tribeca. “She is so empathetic in the way she consumes materials with such thoughtful, emotional intelligence. So I feel very lucky.”

Growing up sucks. Time seems to move faster than we can reasonably keep pace with, the crushing disappointment of reality never quite lives up to our naïve expectations, and even the fondest of memories can fade and turn into deep wells of regret. None of these are particularly profound observations for anyone legally old enough to drink, and they're certainly nothing that countless movies haven't already addressed in every conceivable way. So when yet another R-rated coming-of-age dramedy pops up on the radar -- centered on the well-worn trope of an idealistic 18-year-old relishing her last summer at home before moving away to bigger and better things in the city -- a healthy dose of skepticism would appear to be fair game. Even a talent like Megan Park, whose directorial debut "The Fallout" instantly made her a name worth paying attention to, would be hard-pressed to wring anything new out of this premise.

Kiernan Shipka showed up in two very different, very major movies this year, but there's a fair chance you may have missed her in both. Spoiler alert for the first 15 minutes of Twisters, but by the time you may have processed that the bubbly, blonde weather enthusiast was Shipka, she was probably long gone.

It’s hard to believe, but the concept of the teenager is younger than film as a medium. According to historians, American culture first began thinking of the period between 13 to 19 as a specific bridge between childhood and adulthood in the 1940s, in part due to marketing executives looking to define people in that age range as a new demographic. And shortly afterwards, that demographic became ubiquitous on TV and films.
The first teen films began popping up in earnest during the 1950s, with landmark titles like “The Wild One,” “Blackboard Jungle,” and the enduringly iconic “Rebel Without a Cause.” Each film featured a bonafide screen legend — Marlon Brando in “The Wild One,” Sidney Poitier in “Blackboard Jungle,” and James Dean in his most iconic role in “Rebel Without a Cause” — and established films that took the emotional turmoil of teen life seriously as a vibrant subgenre. Since then, teens...

It’s been 17 years since Superbad first hit theaters, and its influence can still be felt today, in movies like Netflix’s recent Incoming, Olivia Wilde’s Booksmart and also anytime you see a teenager foolishly trying to drink beer out of a laundry detergent container.
The movie was a huge hit in theaters, making over $170 million at the worldwide box office, to the joy of everyone except perhaps the real-life McLovin, who complained that his old high school friends, screenwriters Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, made his character “the butt of every joke.”
Naturally, the blockbuster comedy received a splashy DVD release that year, complete with special features and bonus collectibles that proved to be surprisingly controversial. That’s because the Walmart exclusive release of Superbad came with a replica of the iconic McLovin fake ID, obtained in the movie by the nerdy Fogell.

Today marks 83 years since Jimmy Olsen made his DC Comics debut and Superman writer and director James Gunn has shared two new shots of Skyler Gisondo's version of the character.
One was released on X and the other on Instagram; the actor is wearing the same costume we saw in set photos, suggesting that will be his main look throughout the duration of this movie.
The actor certainly looks the part and is best known for roles in Licorice Pizza, Booksmart, Vacation, The Righteous Gemstones, and Santa Clarita Diet.
It's been a while since we've seen Clark Kent's friendship with Jimmy explored on screen. With Gunn - a huge comic book fan - in charge of the Dcu, that finally looks set to change.

Comedies focused on teenage hijinks and keg parties have been a mainstay since the 1980s. You can learn a lot about a generation in their party movies. Incoming hopes to join the ranks of Superbad, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Bottoms. Instead, it lands with a resounding thud, making it one of the worst modern attempts at crafting a raunchy high school flick.
Incoming – The Plot
Over the summer, Benj Nielsen (Mason Thames) hung out with his sister’s friend Bailey (Isabella Ferreira). While Bailey is older, Benj believes he has a chance to hook up with the girl he’s loved his whole life. When his friend Koosh (Bardia Seiri) gets their friend group invited to a party (hosted by Koosh’s older brother), Benj seizes his chance. With their other friends, Connor (Raphael Alejandro) and Eddie (Ramon Reed), the four freshmen hope to change their high school fate.

At one time, the first season of the HBO series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us was meant to consist of ten episodes, with Kantemir Balagov (Beanpole) directing the first three. For reasons that have never been fully revealed, Balagov only ended up directing the first episode, with series creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann (who also wrote and directed the video game source material) taking over as directors on episode two and three, respectively. Then the first and second episodes were combined in post, with Balagov going uncredited for the scenes he directed, and the Druckmann-helmed third episode became the second episode. The Last of Us season 2 is now in production, and industry scooper Daniel Richtman has heard that Druckmann will be directing the sixth episode of the season.
Richtman also heard that “two Latinx brothers, 16 and 13” will have major roles in The Last of Us...

We previously reported that New Line Cinema is developing a horror-based spinoff of the Rebel Wilson-led rom-com Isn't It Romantic titled Isn't It Scary. And now Spyglass appears to be treading into the genre-bending territory with the upcoming original horror romantic comedy Heart Eyes.
According to an exclusive from Deadline, Heart Eyes will star Cruel Summer vet Olivia Holt and Scream alum Mason Gooding. The film revolves around a murderer nicknamed the "Heart Eyes Killer" who targets couples. When two co-workers get roped into working overtime on Valentine's Day, the killer mistakes them for a couple, and they spend the evening running for their lives.
Heart Eyes is currently filming in New Zealand. Josh Ruben will direct the film, co-written by Phillip Murphy (The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard) and Freaky scribes Christopher Landon and Michael Kennedy. Landon was previously attached to direct the seventh Scream movie, also in the works at Spyglass.

Molly Gordon makes everything better. She was a stand-out among stand-outs in films like Good Boys, Booksmart, and Shiva Baby. Then she showed her talents on the other side of the camera, co-writing/directing the hilarious indie hit Theater Camp. Now she plays Claire on the beloved series The Bear, which is about to drop its third season. On this episode she talks about why she loves improv, how her parents unintentionally formed her comedy sensibilities, getting “buzzed” from in-person auditions, “locking in” with Jeremy Allen White, why she’s always aspiring to a child-like lack of self consciousness, and much more. Production is underway on season 2 of the HBO series adaptation of the video game The Last of Us, and Deadline has just revealed the name of a cast member who will be joining the show in this new batch of episodes: Jeffrey Wright, whose credits include American Fiction, Westworld, Basquiat, Shaft, The Batman, and multiple James Bond and Hunger Games movies. Also on Wright’s list of credits is the video game The Last of Us Part II, where he provided the vocal performance for the character Isaac – and that’s the same character he’ll be playing on the HBO series.
Wright’s character Isaac is “the quietly powerful leader of a large militia group, known in the video game as the Washington Liberation Front, who sought liberty but instead has become mired in an endless war against a surprisingly resourceful enemy.“

While plot specifics under wraps, the project is described as a mother-daughter comedy with two strong female roles.

They’re perhaps best known for scripting Booksmart, the BAFTA and WGA Award-nominated 2019 comedy directed by Olivia Wilde.
Creators of the CBS show Carol’s Second Act, starring Patricia Heaton, as well as the ABC sitcom Trophy Wife, the pair are currently under an overall deal in television at CBS Studios. Nominated for an Emmy for their work on staff of ABC’s Black-ish, they’ve also written on series like Good Girls (NBC), The Mayor (ABC) and Imaginary Mary (ABC), to name a few.

The first look at Season 2 of “The Last of Us” was unveiled on Wednesday featuring stars Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. HBO and Max chief Casey Bloys debuted the images during the Warner Bros. Discovery Upfront presentation in New York City.
The show chronicles the story of Joel (Pascal) and Ellie (Ramsey) as they navigate a world overrun with zombies infected with a parasitic fungus — not to mention the ruthless vigilantes, mercenaries and cannibals just as desperate to survive. Just as the first season of “The Last of Us” was adapted from the acclaimed 2013 video game of the same title, Season 2 of the series is expected to follow the events of its 2020 sequel, “The Last of Us Part II,” which deals with the fallout from Joel’s actions in the season 1 finale.
