Series One of this show was produced in 2010 by Left Bank Pictures for Sky in the UK. Richard Armitage was the lead, Sgt. John Porter. Series One was not shown in the USA until late 2013 when it was aired under the name "Strike Back: Origins." In 2011, British Sky Television (in the UK) and Cinemax (in the U.S.) entered into a partnership to continue the series. Richard Armitage was to reprise his role as Sgt. John Porter, but due to a commitment to star as Thoren Oakenshield in the upcoming Hobbit trilogy, he had to decline. The main role was then rewritten as a duo, with Philip Winchester and Sullivan Stapleton costarring as Sgt. Michael Stonebridge and Sgt. Damien Scott respectively. Armitage's character Sgt. John Porter did appear briefly in the first 2 episodes of the new series.

Yes. The first two episodes and the background story of Series One (UK, 2010) were based on Chris Ryan's book "Strike Back" (published in 2006), which is set in Lebanon rather than Iraq.
