The Cult’s 1984 debut album, Dreamtime, is set to receive a 40th anniversary vinyl reissue, out February 23rd via Beggars Banquet.
It marks the first time the album has been issued on vinyl since 1991. While used copies of The Cult’s classic albums such as Love and Electric would turn up in record stores, Dreamtime was a scarcer find, especially in the US, where it was never issued as an LP. The new 40th anniversary edition touts a fresh remastering job and appears to be the first time the album is being distributed on vinyl in the States.
Still, Dreamtime did well overseas on the strength of singles “Spiritwalker” and “Go West.” At the time, The Cult’s sound was still heavily indebted to post-punk with hints of deathrock, an offshoot of goth rock that combined doomy atmospherics with the intensity of punk. The festival will conclude its near two-week run with a closing night screening of sci-fi actioner Alienoid, from Choi Dong-hoon. Other South Korean films include Hong-sun Kim’s trapped on a boat action flick Project Wolf Hunting, Hunt (Lee Jung-jae), Hot Blooded (Cheon Myoung-kwan), Spiritwalker (Yoon Jae-geun). These last four films are in the international competition, vying for the coveted Canal+ grand prize, acquisition by French premium Pay-tv Canal+ for future broadcast. There are a number of interesting retrospective programs at this year's festival. There are tribute programs devoted to Japanese director, Masahiro Shinoda, Filipino director Mike de...

Bear with me, dear readers, since I’m in new territory with this high-octane Korean action flick, Spiritwalkers. What is not new are the usual cops, crooks and the some-who-may-be-both premise that grounds many of these Asian actioners, nor is an added dimension of sci-fi, as our hero jumps from one body to another every 12 hours, with no memory of who he was before this chain of events began or why it’s occurring. What is new is that even though an explanation emerges, I’m not sure whether it covers what we’ve just seen. So this is the first time I recall endorsing a movie I ultimately didn’t understand.
I’ve enjoyed a slew of Korean action flicks lately, making them a newly acquired taste. In general, the action choreography has been exceptional, as it is in this one.

"Who are you?" "Who do you think I am?" Well Go USA has revealed a new official US trailer for a Korean action film titled Spiritwalker, made by filmmaker Yoon Jae-keun. This one already opened in theaters in Korea last year and originally premiered at the 2020 Sitges Film Festival. After waking up from a car crash unable to remember anything about his life, a man begins regaining consciousness in a new body every 12 hours. Now, he must piece together his identity, all while evading attacks from pursuing agents and deadly criminals alike. But with no memory—and no allies—his time is running out. That sounds like a fun concept for a film! Spiritwalker stars former K-pop singer Yoon Kye-Sang, Park Yong-Woo, Lim Ji-Yeon, and Park Ji-Hwan. Don't write this off! It has some kick ass hand-to-hand action along with a clever concept. It might turn out to be another cheesy action movie,...

The body swap concept is one that has been done to death in Asian cinema to various degrees of success. However, most of the time, it has been used in the romance or comedy genres. “Spiritwalker” is debuting exclusively on the martial arts streaming service Hi-Yah! on March 18, 2022 before hitting Digital, Blu-ray and DVD April 12 from Well Go USA Entertainment.

“Ghostbusters: Afterlife” crept into the background at the South Korean box office over the weekend, as the top three films remained unchanged.
Nationwide aggregate revenue was a lowly $5.06 million as audiences avoided cinemas ahead of new health restrictions.
Cinemas, along with bars, restaurants, gyms and museums, are among the high-risk places affected by a new tightening of health measures in Korea, intended to slow the spread of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus. From Monday, cinemagoers must show a “vaccine pass” in order to be allowed admission.
The measures are expected to be in force for four weeks, covering the normally busy Christmas period.
For most of the year, the Korean public has avoided movie theaters and favored other forms of entertainment. The video streaming scene in Korea is among the world’s most competitive with a mix of local and international streamers vying for eyeballs.
