Prime Video is moving out of the Steel City, cancelling the comedy The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh after just one season, TVLine has confirmed.
The series — which was one of TVLine’s Hidden Gems You May Have Missed from last year’s TV — starred Naveen Andrews (Lost) and stand-up comic Sindhu Vee as the heads of the titular Pradeep family, whose move from India to the States leaves them in hot water with the authorities. “As told through hilarious (and often conflicting) flashbacks from an interrogation room, the Pradeeps quickly find themselves embroiled — romantically, personally, and professionally — with a polar-opposite neighborhood family,...

It’s a Broadway smash!
It, of course, refers to “Bombshell,” the fictional musical-within-a-musical at the center of “Smash,” a new stage adaptation of the beloved cult favorite, much hate-watched TV series that ran for two seasons on NBC from 2012-2013. Variety has an exclusive preview of the meta backstage comedy, which begins preview performances on March 11 ahead of opening night on April 10 at the Imperial Theatre.
Like the television series, created by Theresa Rebeck and described by Vulture as “one of the messiest shows to air on network television,” the stage version follows the process of mounting “Bombshell,” a jaunty musical about the life of Marilyn Monroe. In the first-look image, set outside the fictional show’s Broadway house, a brightly lit marquee boasts such raves as “Amazing!” “Stunning” “Amazingly Stunning!” At the center of it all is Marilyn, wearing the iconic white dress from “The Seven Year Itch,...

Welcome to Tony Talk, a column in which Gold Derby contributors Sam Eckmann and David Buchanan offer Tony Awards analysis. With only four months to go until the 2025 nominations are announced, we’ve reconvened for a retrospective on the musicals from the first half of the Broadway season, during which a total of nine new works and revivals have bowed out of the anticipated 21 total that will be eligible.
David Buchanan: Hey, Sam! It’s hard to believe, but we’re less than four months away from the 2025 Tony Awards nominations. While the Broadway season has been flying by, we’ve already seen five new musicals and four musical revivals open, including some truly first-rate productions. How do you think the competition for the top category of Best Musical has been shaking out so far?

One Piece Live-Action has been a complete treat to the eyes in terms of visuals and recreating the same emotions that follow the anime and the manga. This trait also extends to the adaptation’s perfect casting, where Emily Rudd and Lera Abova, who play the roles of Nami and Robin in the series, have already been fan favorites.

The 2023 smash-hit, award-winning movie Barbie is now streaming on Netflix, and it's the perfect time to revisit what made the movie such a triumph. To say Barbie was a box office success would be a massive understatement. In fact, Barbie was the highest-grossing movie in 2023, a year that had a number of major releases, and it has become such a phenomenon that there are now many movies trying to be the "new Barbie" in the coming years.
Barbie's cast of characters starred Margot Robbie as Stereotypical Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, alongside a star-studded cast comprising other Barbies, Kens, and humans. Although there were plenty of brilliant songs in Barbie and the movie was comedic, Barbie also had profound messages about womanhood, friendship, and self-assuredness that contributed to the movie's appeal. Now, Barbie can finally be streamed on Netflix, reminding audiences why it gained the popularity it did.

There's definitely a sweet spot when it comes to how long a TV series should run. Some go on seemingly forever until they're shallow visages of what they used to be. Then, there are the shows that displayed a ton of promise in just a few episodes but got canceled for one reason or another. When it comes to the latter, you know exactly what we're talking about. Perhaps you were even part of a fan campaign to try to bring one of the following shows back on the air. Sadly, the whims of studio executives know no mercy, even when a show ends on a massive cliffhanger that'll no longer get any resolution.
These are the shows that broke all of our hearts. These series canceled after one season managed to get us invested so quickly, and now, we're left to wonder what might've been had more people tuned in initially.

It’s Musicals Week at IndieWire. With “Wicked” about to sparkle over theaters, we’re celebrating the best of the movie-musical genre.
Season 1 of “Schmigadoon!” was a welcome bright spot in the waning days of the Covid-19 pandemic when it premiered in July 2021. The relentlessly cheery homage to and gentle spoof of Golden Age Broadway musicals was a throwback that also heralded a new voice in American musicals with Cinco Paul’s infectious songs and witty scripts. Elsbeth fans can finally see a face from The Good Wife joining! Find out who!
It's always common for a spinoff to feature characters from the show it was an offshoot from. That really worked for The Good Fight as the series regularly showed scores of characters from The Good Wife. That included Carrie Preston as Elsbeth Tascioni, the wildly quirky attorney who became a fan favorite and earned Preston an Emmy award.
Elsbeth now has her own spinoff with the idea of moving to New York City, and her work with the police soon makes Elsbeth a crime-solver. The show is unique in that each episode opens by showing the viewer who the killer is. It then focuses on how Elsbeth pieces it together with a cat-and-mouse game with the murderer.

The Offspring stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Wednesday night to perform “Make It All Right,” a recent single from their upcoming album Supercharged.
Performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live!’s outdoor stage in Los Angeles instead of the studio, the California natives bring plenty of energy and a healthy amount of “ba-ba-ba”s to their rendition of “Make It All Right.” The band reprised their punchy live sound, made all more electric from 29-year-old drummer Brandon Pertzborn, who smacked the drums like he’ll never get the chance to play again. Watch The Offspring play “Make It All Right” below.

Spirit Halloween is kicking off spooky season by trolling “Saturday Night Live” after the NBC sketch comedy series aired a Spirit Halloween parody during the Season 50 premiere. The fake commercial had cast members like Chloe Fineman roasting the Halloween store for “providing vulnerable communities with the things they need most: Wigs that give you a rash, single-use fog machines and costumes of famous characters tweaked just enough to avoid a lawsuit.”
The official X account for Spirit Halloween responded by giving “SNL” its own costume tweaked just enough to avoid a lawsuit. The store posted a photo for an “SNL” Season 50 costume titled “Irrelevant 50-Year-Old TV Show” that includes “dated references, unknown cast members and shrinking ratings.”
“We are great at raising things back from the dead,” the Spirit Halloween account wrote in the caption.

Byte Breakers is a new free Steam game that may just rival the famous Super Smash Brothers. Byte Breakers is a new game by indie studio Odyssey Interactive, which previously made Omega Strikers. However, the action sports game, while fun, had complications with keeping an audience large enough to warrant constant support. So, while the game is still active, no major new updates are planned for it while the studio works on other things.
Odyssey Interactive does have an uphill battle trying to get into the platform fighter genre. Many have tried, and so few have reached a point to compete with Smash. MultiVersus would be the most recent example, and even though it has had success with characters from beloved Cartoon Network and Warner franchises, it has yet to reach the highest heights. Though it is early, Byte Breakers has the potential to rise and compete with the top dogs.

In its 50-year history, Saturday Night Live has seen all kinds of hosts. Some are absolute geniuses on the show, have huge hits with the audience, and come back multiple times. Others were “flash in the pan” stars whose gigs are mostly forgotten. And then there are hosts who were absolutely terrible and never invited back.
Some go the extra mile and are openly banned by SNL, although it’s sometimes tricky to figure that out. Contrary to opinion, Charles Grodin wasn’t banned, but it was his own choice not to return as he didn’t feel he worked on the show. Many bans are for the musical guests, but these stand out as the SNL hosts were so awful they were banned from returning, and some big names on this list.

General Ross' Red Hulk made a huge splash when he debuted in 2008, but there have been several other versions since. Robert L. Maverick is the second Red Hulk, who could access his powers for an hour at a time, while Red Hulk 2099 has godlike might. Ross' Rulk isn't our #1, beaten out by Joe Fixit's short-lived Red Hulk and Weapon H's new red form.
The Red Hulk made a huge splash when he debuted in 2008, making headlines as a new bastion of raw power in Marvel lore. Punching out the Silver Surfer, Thor and the Watcher to establish himself as a match for the original, green-skinned Hulk, Red Hulk (aka 'Rulk') captured fan imagination like few other debut characters. Now, Red Hulk is returning to the limelight in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, once again grabbing Marvel fans by the lapels.
However, since Red Hulk appeared in 2008, there have...

If Peak TV has flown the coop, nobody told Peacock.
Every major streaming service released less content during April-June 2024 than they did during the same period in 2023 except for Peacock, according to a HarrisX study performed for the media analysts at MoffettNathanson. The NBCUniversal streaming service released eight new, original seasons of TV in Q2 of 2024 — the same as it did in the second quarter last year.
Over the past three months, Netflix released 92 original seasons, down from 97 in the same period last year. Amazon released 34 seasons, down from 37; Hulu put out 14 seasons, down from 16; Max and Paramount+ both released 19 original seasons, down from 23 and 22, respectively.
The big decline came from Disney+, which put out 16 original seasons in Q2 2024, down from 30. You’re sleeping, beauties.
Anyway, the Peacock consistency seems to be working. The streamer enjoyed the quarter’s best penetration of U.S. households, growing 220 basis points to 21 percent.

The NBC musical drama Smash didn’t exactly live up to its title during its television run, dropping to 113rd place amongst network TV shows during its second and final season. But everyone loves a comeback story, so it should be no surprise that a stage production of Smash is on its way to Broadway. The new Smash musical will debut in spring 2025 season, but if you can’t wait until then, Peacock is tiding fans over as both seasons of the series just landed on the streamer. The stage show will be an adaptation of the Steven Spielberg-produced TV show itself, with Tony winner Susan Stroman directing and Smash’s Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman once again handling the music, Playbill reports. As you prepare for your rewatch, and as we wait for curtain time, let’s see which Smash songs have been hits with fans. According to...
