Detention of the Dead

I had not heard of Detention of the Dead before, but when a title includes "...of the Dead," it usually falls into one of two categories: either a zombie classic or absolute nonsense trying to piggyback on a name like Day of the Dead. I assumed it would be the latter, but it turned out to be much better than anticipated. It's not one of the best zombie horror-comedy films out there, but it's definitely a decent watch.

The film follows a group of high school students in detention for various reasons, some of which are only revealed later. However, they soon discover that everyone else in and around the school has turned into flesh-eating undead. The group consists of the usual stereotypes: the handsome tough guy with his beautiful and popular girlfriend, the tough guy's sporty and somewhat dim-witted friends, a science nerd who's frequently bullied by the tough guy, and an odd goth girl who's neither particularly liked nor disliked, among others.

The storyline is almost ridiculously predictable-you can easily guess who will die next and who will do what. That said, there's always room for another zombie film, even if we've seen this story play out under numerous different titles and variations before.
