The MCU without the Fantastic Four never felt right. After all, the Fantastic Four began the entire Marvel Universe when it debuted in 1961. The issue was always Fox holding the rights with a couple of mid-2000s movies and a horrible 2015 film.

The new movie is intriguing as it’s set in the 1960s with the first trailer showcasing a wonderful retro feel. It’s inevitable that Disney will push this in merchandising and the likelihood of a theme park tie-in of some sort.

In terms of what that could be, there’s really only one place for the Fantastic Four to appear at a Disney park: Tomorrowland.

Why the Fantastic Four is perfect for Tomorrowland

In the 1980s, pro wrestling star Ric Flair regularly referred to himself as “Space Mountain” on the idea of “an old ride but still the best around.” That worked because it pertains to the ride itself, whose history has always been intriguing.

Disney had long resisted pure “thrill rides” with a notable exception being the Matterhorn mountain in Disneyland. Walt himself had an idea for an indoor coaster in 1964, hoping to make it part of the “new Tomorrowland” as a “SpacePort.”

The Walt Disney Company loves few things more than its own lore, and its ability to promote that internal mythology is second to none. 2025 marks the 70th anniversary of Disneyland Park, the original theme park that helped Disney expand beyond its collection of animated feature films and shorts. Disneyland allowed guests to interact with beloved and iconic characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, as well as princesses like Snow White and Cinderella. The characters had essentially leapt off the screen, as had some of the most exciting and adventurous scenes in other well-known Disney titles. 70 years later, it seems like a fait accompli that Disneyland would be a rousing success; how could it not be? But Disneyland was far from a guarantee when it was under construction and when the studio had to market the theme park to a country full of people who didn't quite know what such a theme park even was.

While the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie franchise has given fans some pretty great examples of swashbuckling tentpole fantasy adventures, the property has also been yielding diminishing returns both critically and commercially for years. Perhaps because of this, rumors of Disney trying to once again recapture the lightning in the rum bottle are swirling once more.

According to Variety, the House of Mouse is eyeing none other than Johnny Depp for one more swaying stroll in Captain Jack Sparrow's boots. Depp is far from a lock at the moment, though. Disney dropped the actor like a hot potato in 2018, in the wake of Amber Heard's domestic abuse allegations. However, the ensuing defamation trial ended in Depp's victory in 2022, which may have made him more presentable in Disney's eyes ... though not necessarily vice versa.

As it stands, it appears that the future of the "Pirates" franchise is at a Depp-themed crossroads.

In 2009, Disney purchased the film rights to Marvel Studios. In 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm. In 2017, Disney purchased the 20th Century Fox library. Thanks to these major buys, Disney now owns some of the most bankable films of all time. When not adjusted for inflation, Disney also owns a controlling stake in nine out of the 10 highest-grossing movies ever, including two "Avatar" movies, "Titanic," three movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a Pixar film, a "Star Wars" film, and a remake of an animated classic.

But every major hit seems to balance itself out with a major loss. Disney also has ownership of some of the biggest box office bombs of all time, as the "high risk, high reward" filmmaking model has proven unsuccessful at least as often as it has worked. Netflix’s new Christmas movie “The Merry Gentlemen” is now streaming, telling story of a young dancer who comes home to find that her parents’ business — and thus, her whole childhood, essentially — may be going under. So, to help save it, she organizes a Christmas-themed male revue to pull in ticket sales.

The movie features a lot of familiar faces, but perhaps some new ones for you too. So, we’ve got you covered.

Exclusive: Premiere Entertainment Group (Peg), the L.A.-based production and sales company, has acquired worldwide rights to holiday rom-com film Love Unexpected, which will star Britt Robertson (The Longest Ride).

Production is set to start in December in the Greater Colorado Springs area.

Lionsgate released the new trailer to Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed epic “Megalopolis” on Wednesday ahead of its theatrical debut next month.

Written, produced and directed by Coppola, the movie is a decades-long passion project for the “Godfather” filmmaker. It was a big swing, for sure, requiring Coppola to sell off part of his winery to self-finance the film’s $120 million budget. Reviews out of the Cannes Film Festival were unkind, but this trailer uses the film’s divisiveness to its advantage, quoting critics who slammed Coppola’s previous films now considered masterpieces like “The Godfather,” “Apocalypse Now” and “Dracula.”

Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman and Grace VanderWaal star in the ambitious drama. “Megalopolis,” which is full of allusions to the Roman Empire and oversized visual flourishes, pits an idealistic architect (Driver) against a powerful politician (Esposito) for control of a futuristic city.

As much as many Disney purists may dislike it, it can't be denied that Disney is focused on using IP in the parks. Harvey Keitel and Britt Robertson have teamed for comedy-drama “The Letter,” now in its final week of filming in Buenos Aires, with Rodrigo H. Vila directing.

Written by Vila and Sebastián Meschengieser with script collaboration from Andy Weiss, the film follows Finn (Keitel), an old war veteran, who wants to write a goodbye letter to his only daughter. He decides to hire failed writer Julia (Robertson), who is desperate for money. The two, each feeling lost in their own ways, form an unusual yet endearing friendship that ultimately transforms both their lives.

“The Letter” marks the second collaboration between writer, director and producer Vila and Keitel. The two first worked together on the 2019 sci-fi thriller “The Last Man.”

Disney just announced that they would bulldoze Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island to add more IP at the Magic Kingdom. Frontierland will no longer be Frontierland; it will be Western IP land. Of course, the Disney suits waited until after D23 to confirm this when they could hide from parks fans.

Parks fans are already upset that Disney will keep calling the area Frontierland when it’s modern-day “Cars.” It defeats the purpose, like Autotopia in Tomorrowland.

Couldn’t they have just made that Cars-themed? But I digress.

Behaviour Interactive was promising big things for Dead by Daylight in the future, but no one saw this coming. Announced last night via the official Dead by Daylight X account, Five Nights at Freddy’s will be entering The Fog in Summer 2025!

Judging from the fact that it was the Dead by Daylight account announcing the crossover, and not anyone from Steel Wool or FNaF creator Scott Cawthorn (though he did tease something was coming), it’s safe to assume (for now) that we won’t be having Dead by Daylight jumping into the next Five Nights at Freddy’s game.

Details are obviously still to come regarding this crossover, which will most likely have one of the animatronics from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria as a Killer, along with a new map, and new cosmetics.

Yesterday, Disney announced that Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party will return on select nights from November 8 to December 20, 2024. Guests can expect special entertainment, parades, characters, treats, and attractions during the event.

In the list of attractions, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is listed as being available for guests along with many other attractions. It is unclear if you will need to use a Virtual Queue to ride as they did with Tron Lightcycle Run last year.

Lionsgate will release Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed epic “Megalopolis” in U.S. and Canadian theaters, the studio announced on Monday.

The film will open on Sept. 27.

Written, produced and directed by Coppola, the movie is a decades-long passion project for the “Godfather” filmmaker. It is described as a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. Adam Driver plays a genius artist who envisions a utopian future for the city of New Rome, while Giancarlo Esposito is the city’s Mayor who remains committed to a regressive status quo.

“Francis is a legend,” Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement to TheWrap. “For many of us, his gifts to cinema were one of the inspirations to devote our own careers to film. It is a true privilege to work with him and to bring this incredible, audacious and utterly unique movie to theatrical audiences.

Most sci-fi movies that bombed at the box office in the last decade had large budgets and failed to appeal to a widespread audience. Movie franchises like Terminator and Blade Runner have struggled to maintain audience interest after previous installments. Poor casting, lack of chemistry between main actors, and competition with other blockbuster films contributed to some sci-fi movies flopping.

The sci-fi movies that flopped at the box office in the last decade are illustrative of how tricky the genre can be. Like its counterpart and often overlapping genre of fantasy, sci-fi typically connotes extensive world-building that can easily mean a movie bogged down in exposition. The best sci-fi movies of all time manage to strike a balance between showing and telling how the world works, or simply feature a setting where the rules can mostly be inferred by the audience based on genre tropes.

Off the back of terrific reviews, the fifth film in the Mad Max saga arrived in cinemas with the promise of a sixth movie – The Borderlands – ready to go. George Miller said as much in his collection of pre-release interviews, the assumption being that Warner Bros would fire the starting gun should Furiosa’s box office receipts be solid enough.

Yet, as you likely know, the numbers aren’t looking good. The chances of Mad Max 6 are beginning to look incredibly slim.

Going into the weekend, George Miller‘s prequel, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” had scored impressive reviews after its Cannes Film Festival debut with 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Warner Bros. had the film’s stars, Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, just about everywhere promoting the movie. It ended up making $3.5 million from Thursday previews beginning at 3pm, which was less than the $3.7 previews for “Mad Max: Fury Road” back in 2015. It ended up making $10.2 million on Friday, including those previews, which was not a good sign it might reach the $40 million plus projected in advance. Instead, it ended up with $26.3 million over the three-day weekend and an estimated $32 million including Monday.

Emmy-winning “Lost” and “Watchmen” creator Damon Lindelof is joining James Gunn’s DC universe. The acclaimed writer has been added to the team that will bring a “Green Lantern” TV show to life alongside “Ozark” showrunner Chris Mundy and Tom King, Gunn revealed on social media on Saturday.

“Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns Dcu series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof,” Gunn said. “A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family.”

Country music superstar Tim McGraw is adding to his acting resume with a new drama series at Netflix.

Variety has learned that McGraw will star in the untitled series, which is set in the world of competitive bull riding. The official logline for the series states that it follows “a megastar champion (McGraw) facing a life-or-death crossroads when confronted by the arrival of a fearless young rider whose existence challenges his ways and unearths secrets that force him to reckon with his past.”

The series, which hails from Skydance Television, was announced as part of Netflix’s upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Wednesday.

The Anaheim City Council gave its unanimous approval early Wednesday to Disneyland Forward, the $1.9 billion, multi-decade Disneyland expansion plan. The 7-0 vote came early today after an eight-hour public hearing that started Tuesday night, during which Anaheim residents, Disneyland cast members and officials from nearby cities spoke about the plan’s advantages and problems.

The proposal, which would expand development and add hotel rooms to the theme park by redeploying some 57 acres of parking and unused land, heads for a final City Council vote on May 7. It would allow for more attractions, lodging and other entertainment and attractions without expanding the theme park.
