At 5ft 2 ½ (158.8 cm) with a US shoe size of 6, Britt Robertson knows how to make a stylish statement on the red carpet. Whether she’s stepping out in elegant designer heels or rocking a youthful, edgy look, the actress always puts her best foot forward.

A self-proclaimed tomboy growing up, Britt once said, “I tried to play every sport. I wasn’t great at most of them, but at least I tried!”—but when it comes to fashion, she’s clearly mastered the game. From strappy stilettos at the Tomorrowland premiere in Tokyo to bold red-carpet moments at For the People promotions, Britt’s shoe choices never fail to impress.

With the Fantastic Four coming to the MCU, it may be time to add them to the parks as well! And there's only one place perfect for the Fantastic Four!
The MCU without the Fantastic Four never felt right. After all, the Fantastic Four began the entire Marvel Universe when it debuted in 1961. The issue was always Fox holding the rights with a couple of mid-2000s movies and a horrible 2015 film.
The new movie is intriguing as it’s set in the 1960s with the first trailer showcasing a wonderful retro feel. It’s inevitable that Disney will push this in merchandising and the likelihood of a theme park tie-in of some sort.
In terms of what that could be, there’s really only one place for the Fantastic Four to appear at a Disney park: Tomorrowland.
Why the Fantastic Four is perfect for Tomorrowland
Tomorrowland has been a tricky place for Disney.

One of the most iconic rides in all of Disney is celebrating a milestone this week and the perfect time to ride it!
Disney parks have more than their share of epic and iconic rides. Yet Space Mountain is something special. It’s not just how it’s a great roller coaster, it’s entered the pop culture lexicon.
In the 1980s, pro wrestling star Ric Flair regularly referred to himself as “Space Mountain” on the idea of “an old ride but still the best around.” That worked because it pertains to the ride itself, whose history has always been intriguing.
Disney had long resisted pure “thrill rides” with a notable exception being the Matterhorn mountain in Disneyland. Walt himself had an idea for an indoor coaster in 1964, hoping to make it part of the “new Tomorrowland” as a “SpacePort.”
It never came off as the technology for what was...

The Walt Disney Company loves few things more than its own lore, and its ability to promote that internal mythology is second to none. 2025 marks the 70th anniversary of Disneyland Park, the original theme park that helped Disney expand beyond its collection of animated feature films and shorts. Disneyland allowed guests to interact with beloved and iconic characters like Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, as well as princesses like Snow White and Cinderella. The characters had essentially leapt off the screen, as had some of the most exciting and adventurous scenes in other well-known Disney titles. 70 years later, it seems like a fait accompli that Disneyland would be a rousing success; how could it not be? But Disneyland was far from a guarantee when it was under construction and when the studio had to market the theme park to a country full of people who didn't quite know what such a theme park even was.

While the "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie franchise has given fans some pretty great examples of swashbuckling tentpole fantasy adventures, the property has also been yielding diminishing returns both critically and commercially for years. Perhaps because of this, rumors of Disney trying to once again recapture the lightning in the rum bottle are swirling once more.
According to Variety, the House of Mouse is eyeing none other than Johnny Depp for one more swaying stroll in Captain Jack Sparrow's boots. Depp is far from a lock at the moment, though. Disney dropped the actor like a hot potato in 2018, in the wake of Amber Heard's domestic abuse allegations. However, the ensuing defamation trial ended in Depp's victory in 2022, which may have made him more presentable in Disney's eyes ... though not necessarily vice versa.
As it stands, it appears that the future of the "Pirates" franchise is at a Depp-themed crossroads.

In 2009, Disney purchased the film rights to Marvel Studios. In 2012, Disney purchased Lucasfilm. In 2017, Disney purchased the 20th Century Fox library. Thanks to these major buys, Disney now owns some of the most bankable films of all time. When not adjusted for inflation, Disney also owns a controlling stake in nine out of the 10 highest-grossing movies ever, including two "Avatar" movies, "Titanic," three movies in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a Pixar film, a "Star Wars" film, and a remake of an animated classic.
But every major hit seems to balance itself out with a major loss. Disney also has ownership of some of the biggest box office bombs of all time, as the "high risk, high reward" filmmaking model has proven unsuccessful at least as often as it has worked. Disney also owns major commercial duds like "The Marvels," "John Carter," "The Lone Ranger," "Mars Needs Moms," "Tomorrowland," "Onward," "Strange World,...

When it comes to Hollywood’s handsome hunks, no one can beat George Clooney. Think of charm, sophistication, and that dazzling smile that graced red carpets and screens for decades. But behind that aura lies a career that’s been a bit of a rollercoaster, especially when it comes to the box office.
Sure, Clooney’s Hollywood royalty, but his journey in the film industry has had its fair share of big wins and surprising stumbles. Take Gravity for instance, a cinematic masterpiece that grossed a hefty box office success and cemented Clooney’s place as a bankable star. But besides floating in space with Sandra Bullock, Clooney went through challenges before hitting another jackpot.

T’is the season — for male strippers? Yes, actually. Yes indeed.
Netflix’s new Christmas movie “The Merry Gentlemen” is now streaming, telling story of a young dancer who comes home to find that her parents’ business — and thus, her whole childhood, essentially — may be going under. So, to help save it, she organizes a Christmas-themed male revue to pull in ticket sales.
The movie features a lot of familiar faces, but perhaps some new ones for you too. So, we’ve got you covered.
Here are all the major players in “The Merry Gentlemen.”
Netflix Ashley (Britt Robertson)
Ashley is a professional dancer, who is unceremoniously fired for being too old (in her 30s). She’s played by “Tomorrowland” and “The Longest Ride” star Britt Robertson. She also starred in “The Space Between Us” and more recently, “The Rookie: Feds,” as well as a few episodes of “The Rookie.

In order to save her parents' business, Ashley hatches a plan to host a Christmas-themed performance by some of their town's most eligible bachelors.

While not every movie can be a financial hit, the biggest box office bombs of all time prove that some projects can take down careers, genres, and even studios. While movie studios do everything possible to ensure they take as few risks as possible, investing in a film is always a gamble. The common criticism that Hollywood only produces reboots, sequels, remakes, and spinoffs is not without justification. This claim comes from the fact that, for studios, an intellectual property with proven potential and a built-in fanbase will always be more appealing than an unknown, original prospect.
However, this approach does not always bear fruit. The box office failure of superhero movies in 2023 shows that no genre is going to be a surefire hit forever. While superhero movies were once the biggest earner, they have now made for some costly losses. This can be the same for big ambitious productions that spiral out of control,...

Lionsgate released the new trailer to Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed epic “Megalopolis” on Wednesday ahead of its theatrical debut next month.
Written, produced and directed by Coppola, the movie is a decades-long passion project for the “Godfather” filmmaker. It was a big swing, for sure, requiring Coppola to sell off part of his winery to self-finance the film’s $120 million budget. Reviews out of the Cannes Film Festival were unkind, but this trailer uses the film’s divisiveness to its advantage, quoting critics who slammed Coppola’s previous films now considered masterpieces like “The Godfather,” “Apocalypse Now” and “Dracula.”
Adam Driver, Giancarlo Esposito, Nathalie Emmanuel, Aubrey Plaza, Shia Labeouf, Jon Voight, Jason Schwartzman and Grace VanderWaal star in the ambitious drama. “Megalopolis,” which is full of allusions to the Roman Empire and oversized visual flourishes, pits an idealistic architect (Driver) against a powerful politician (Esposito) for control of a futuristic city.

It appears that Disney has a new obsession with using IP it owns. This means it's a perfect time to merge a long-gone attraction with one of the hottest movie franchises ever!
As much as many Disney purists may dislike it, it can't be denied that Disney is focused on using IP in the parks. The D23 announcements proved that and while some can argue it's better to stay away from it, Disney is determined to utilize the IP they own to the utmost. That includes the stuff they bought from Fox, which does lend itself to some theme park attractions.
Perhaps notable among those is a property one wouldn't normally associate with Disney: Alien. The 1979 original is one of the most groundbreaking films of all time as Ridley Scott directed this fantastic mix of sci-fi and horror that made Sigourney Weaver a star. Harvey Keitel and Britt Robertson have teamed for comedy-drama “The Letter,” now in its final week of filming in Buenos Aires, with Rodrigo H. Vila directing.
Written by Vila and Sebastián Meschengieser with script collaboration from Andy Weiss, the film follows Finn (Keitel), an old war veteran, who wants to write a goodbye letter to his only daughter. Disney just announced that they would bulldoze Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island to add more IP at the Magic Kingdom. Frontierland will no longer be Frontierland; it will be Western IP land. Of course, the Disney suits waited until after D23 to confirm this when they could hide from parks fans.
Parks fans are already upset that Disney will keep calling the area Frontierland when it’s modern-day “Cars.” It defeats the purpose, like Autotopia in Tomorrowland.
Couldn’t they have just made that Cars-themed? But I digress.
The new concept art shows the changes, and the Disney Parks Blog says the area will be removed.
“It’s time to leave Radiator Springs and head west into exciting new locations. To make way for this completely new frontier, the Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer Island will be transformed into vast and rugged terrains for a rally race...

Behaviour Interactive was promising big things for Dead by Daylight in the future, but no one saw this coming. Announced last night via the official Dead by Daylight X account, Five Nights at Freddy’s will be entering The Fog in Summer 2025!
Judging from the fact that it was the Dead by Daylight account announcing the crossover, and not anyone from Steel Wool or FNaF creator Scott Cawthorn (though he did tease something was coming), it’s safe to assume (for now) that we won’t be having Dead by Daylight jumping into the next Five Nights at Freddy’s game.
Details are obviously still to come regarding this crossover, which will most likely have one of the animatronics from Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria as a Killer, along with a new map, and new cosmetics.
Meanwhile, we’re still waiting to see more info regarding that other collaboration that was announced...

These days, it feels like George Clooney is known more for his political opinions than his acting career. Billions earned at the box office? Meh. Billions more raised in advocacy, humanitarian efforts, and charity? Yawn. Two-time People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive? Getting closer, but nah. Donald Trump calls you a “rat” on Truth Social? That’s when you know you’ve made it.
Believe it or not, George Clooney used to be famous for something other than his political flip-flops. Well, hold onto your hats because there was actually a time before Clooney’s latest head-scratcher: penning a New York Times op-ed calling Joe Biden unfit for office mere weeks after throwing him the mother of all fundraisers. Yes, you heard that right – he hosted a record-breaking cash bash for Biden, the biggest ever for a Democrat candidate, then declared to the world that the guy shouldn’t run.

Lionsgate will release Francis Ford Coppola’s self-financed epic “Megalopolis” in U.S. and Canadian theaters, the studio announced on Monday.
The film will open on Sept. 27.
Written, produced and directed by Coppola, the movie is a decades-long passion project for the “Godfather” filmmaker. It is described as a Roman Epic fable set in an imagined Modern America. Adam Driver plays a genius artist who envisions a utopian future for the city of New Rome, while Giancarlo Esposito is the city’s Mayor who remains committed to a regressive status quo.
“Francis is a legend,” Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said in a statement to TheWrap. “For many of us, his gifts to cinema were one of the inspirations to devote our own careers to film. It is a true privilege to work with him and to bring this incredible, audacious and utterly unique movie to theatrical audiences.

Most sci-fi movies that bombed at the box office in the last decade had large budgets and failed to appeal to a widespread audience. Movie franchises like Terminator and Blade Runner have struggled to maintain audience interest after previous installments. Poor casting, lack of chemistry between main actors, and competition with other blockbuster films contributed to some sci-fi movies flopping.
The sci-fi movies that flopped at the box office in the last decade are illustrative of how tricky the genre can be. Like its counterpart and often overlapping genre of fantasy, sci-fi typically connotes extensive world-building that can easily mean a movie bogged down in exposition. The best sci-fi movies of all time manage to strike a balance between showing and telling how the world works, or simply feature a setting where the rules can mostly be inferred by the audience based on genre tropes.

George Miller’s Furiosa may be struggling in cinemas, but that doesn’t mean it won’t ultimately make money for Warner Bros. A few thoughts on the modern approach to box office reporting:
There’s a sense of ‘here we again’, as headlines emerge about George Miller’s latest movie, Furiosa.
Off the back of terrific reviews, the fifth film in the Mad Max saga arrived in cinemas with the promise of a sixth movie – The Borderlands – ready to go. George Miller said as much in his collection of pre-release interviews, the assumption being that Warner Bros would fire the starting gun should Furiosa’s box office receipts be solid enough.
Yet, as you likely know, the numbers aren’t looking good. The chances of Mad Max 6 are beginning to look incredibly slim.

Memorial Day is usually one of the biggest and best weekends at the box office, but the warped year that is 2024 at the box office continued with neither of the new wide releases blowing up. Read on for the weekend box office report.
Going into the weekend, George Miller‘s prequel, “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga” had scored impressive reviews after its Cannes Film Festival debut with 89% on Rotten Tomatoes, and Warner Bros. had the film’s stars, Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, just about everywhere promoting the movie. It ended up making $3.5 million from Thursday previews beginning at 3pm, which was less than the $3.7 previews for “Mad Max: Fury Road” back in 2015. It ended up making $10.2 million on Friday, including those previews, which was not a good sign it might reach the $40 million plus projected in advance. Instead, it ended up with $26.3 million over the three-day weekend and an estimated $32 million including Monday.

Emmy-winning “Lost” and “Watchmen” creator Damon Lindelof is joining James Gunn’s DC universe. The acclaimed writer has been added to the team that will bring a “Green Lantern” TV show to life alongside “Ozark” showrunner Chris Mundy and Tom King, Gunn revealed on social media on Saturday.
“Yes, it’s true. The Lanterns Dcu series is putting together a crack team of writers, based on a wonderful pilot script and bible by Chris Mundy, Tom King, and Damon Lindelof,” Gunn said. “A hearty welcome to Chris and @damonlindelof as they join the DC Studios family.”
Gunn, who is currently in the middle of directing the “Superman” reboot for a 2025 release, noted that King has been with the series since its inception under Gunn.

Saturday Am: This weekend at the Memorial Day box office, the film industry seems to be questioning its existence, ready to jump out of a window. How can a genius, George Miller-directed tentpole prequel to the multi-Oscar winning Mad Max: Fury Road with great reviews and 4 1/2 stars PostTrak exits not be working?
The entire theatrical business is destined for streaming, oh, no! People will forever stay on their couches!
As Cher said to Nicolas Cage in Moonstruck as she smacked him in the face: “Snap out of it!” It’s not really right to make Furiosa, or Garfield, for that matter, the proxies of the Memorial Day box office.
Furiosa is still on track for $31M-$33M. For clarity purposes: The last time a film grossed in this vicinity was the 1980s with Return of the Jedi and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. However, we stand corrected: It’s the lowest No.

A private Disney club is going public. Like, big-screen public.
Club 33, the exclusive dining club inside Disneyland, is getting the movie treatment.
Darren Lemke, who has worked on such family films as Goosebumps starring Jack Black and Shazam!, has been tapped to pen the script set in a fantastical world about the club.
Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy, Dan Levine and Dan Cohen are producing through 21 Laps Entertainment, the prolific banner behind Stranger Things and the recent Holocaust drama All The Light We Cannot See.
The project is said to exude the tone and vibes of Clue and Night at the Museum, Levy’s own fantasy-adventure trilogy set in a museum and featuring exhibits and historical figures to come to life.
For Club 33, the story centers on a young aspiring detective who receives a mysterious invite to the highly secretive Club 33. In this case, it’s a magical and...

Plot: A young girl (Cailey Fleming) going through a difficult life experience discovers that she can see a whole world of IFs (imaginary friends) who’ve been forgotten by their childhood friends as they grew older. Now, with the help of their mysterious adult named Cal (Ryan Reynolds), she seeks to unite these IFs with new children.
Review: One cannot fault writer-director-star John Krasinski for a lack of ambition. He’s parlayed the success of his A Quiet Place franchise into this big-budget family film, which seems to aspire to be a live-action Pixar flick. However, in attempting to appeal to both children and adults, he’s made a movie targeting too vague an audience. If is too childish for adults, but it is also likely too serious and dramatic to keep kids entertained.
As such, If could be categorized as an interesting failure. Like Brad Bird’s Tomorrowland, which also seemed inspired by Pixar,...

The original article follows:
The long-awaited third entry in the Tron franchise is finally in production. Six years after it was first announced that Jared Leto was in talks to star in a Tron project called Tron: Ares, the movie was all set to start filming last August – but then it had to wait out the writers and actors strikes. With those strikes over, filming is finally underway. Earlier today, we heard a quote from cast member Cameron Monaghan (Gotham), who said this film will “really push forward what can be done, from a visual perspective.” Now, we have another quote about the movie – and this is the one that every Tron fan has been waiting to hear. Disney may have found a better replacement than another Johnny Depp-led Pirates movie. A Space Mountain film could fill the void left by the declining Pirates franchise. Space Mountain can learn from Pirates' mistakes and offer a fresh space adventure.
Disney may have found a replacement for the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, and it certainly sounds better than another Johnny Depp-led installment of the franchise. The Pirates of the Caribbean series was a big hit for Disney, with the five films earning a combined box office total of $4.5 billion (via The Numbers). However, the last movie, Dead Men Tell No Tales, was released seven years ago and in the time since, Disney has struggled to come up with a suitable replacement. Now they may have the answer, and it's a much better prospect than a sixth Pirates film.

Disney’s “Space Mountain” has been reignited.
Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec, whose credits including “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” and the two Michael Bay-produced live-action “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” films, have been hired to write a new screenplay based on the beloved Disney Parks attraction, TheWrap has learned.
Jonathan Eirich from Rideback is producing the feature, along with Joby Harold (who wrote an earlier iteration of the project) and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse. Ryan Halprin of Rideback is executive producing.
The original Space Mountain opened as the centerpiece of the Magic Kingdom’s version of Tomorrowland in 1975, part of the expansive Walt Disney World resort outside of Orlando, Fla. The ride is known for its strikingly graphic design — comprised of a cone and spires that jut heavenward (and can be seen as part of John Hench’s early concept art) — and its thrilling, coaster-in-the-dark aesthetic. Disney is once again trying to make a "Space Mountain" movie happen. This is one of the company's most cherished theme park rides as a staple of both Disneyland and Disney World for decades. Now, a pair of new writers have been brought on board to try and crack the code with this long-gestating adaptation. Whether or not they will be the ones to get it across the finish line is another question entirely.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec have been tapped to write the latest iteration of "Space Mountain" for Disney. The Space Mountain movie gets a positive update after 4 years. Writing duo Josh Appelbaum and André Nemec have been tapped to work on a new screenplay. The movie joins other Disney theme park adaptations like Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise.

The in-development project is one of several planned onscreen adaptations of Disney theme park attractions to follow hits like the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, including Tower of Terror starring Scarlett Johannson and Big Thunder Mountain. Updated, 9:38 Am: Tomorrowland is on the horizon.
The Anaheim City Council gave its unanimous approval early Wednesday to Disneyland Forward, the $1.9 billion, multi-decade Disneyland expansion plan. The 7-0 vote came early today after an eight-hour public hearing that started Tuesday night, during which Anaheim residents, Disneyland cast members and officials from nearby cities spoke about the plan’s advantages and problems.
The proposal, which would expand development and add hotel rooms to the theme park by redeploying some 57 acres of parking and unused land, heads for a final City Council vote on May 7. It would allow for more attractions, lodging and other entertainment and attractions without expanding the theme park.
“When Disneyland grows, Anaheim thrives,” Mayor Ashleigh Aitken said in a statement. “Last night’s vote to approve the DisneylandForward Plan will benefit Anaheim for decades to come. The plan will provide important funding to the City of Anaheim to build affordable housing,...

"In the vastness of space and time, many tales weave into one, under the light of a thousand suns." There's an exciting original sci-fi series about to launch next week. A Thousand Suns is the latest creation from a filmmaker known as "Macgregor", produced by a company called Blackmilk Studio. There's not much out yet about the plot or the different stories. There will be a total of six anthology episodes to watch: Episode 1 - Ice; Episode 2 - Red; Episode 3 - Exodus; Episode 4 - Deal; Episode 5 - Bug; & Episode 6 - Tomorrow Land. Macgregor says his team of filmmakers, including Ruairi Robinson & Tyson Wade Johnston, worked to craft "films that serve as a gateway to our hopes, dreams... and nightmares." This seems like a sleek live-action anthology series akin to Love Death + Robots that will tell various sci-fi stories. I'm really digging the footage in this teaser, and will be...

2025's The Fantastic Four may be set in an alternate universe, explaining their absence from the McU's Earth-616. Clues like a different futuristic skyline in official art and Silver Surfer's surprise casting suggest an alternate universe setting for The Fantastic Four. An alternate universe origin would avoid repeating Captain America's story, raise multiverse stakes, and also tie into an epic Galactus who could consume their world, forcing them to integrate into the primary MCU.
Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four isn't releasing until 2025, and yet there are already a handful of clues teasing its setting in an alternate universe. Despite being Marvel's First Family in the original comics, The Fantastic Four have yet to make their debut in the MCU, specifically its primary reality, Earth-616. To that end, an alternate universe could be the perfect answer to explain their absence.
Releasing in July of 2025, Marvel's The Fantastic Four is coming from WandaVision director Matt Shakman.

It isn’t every week that two of the biggest jobs in film are filled within a matter of days, but that was the case last week. On February 26, Disney’s live-action president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production Sean Bailey exited, making way for Searchlight’s David Greenbaum to take the top job. Two days later on Feb. 28, Rideback’s Dan Lin was tapped to take Scott Stuber’s open seat atop Netflix’s film division.
Greenbaum made his bones on prestige indie films and original, auteur-driven stories. He’s now taking the job at a company that has spent the last 15 years mining IP and playing the hits. Lin is a franchise builder now stepping into an environment known for chasing big prestige swings.
It appears Disney and Netflix are heading in opposite directions. One agent who spoke with IndieWire called it a role-reversal between Disney and Netflix; at one point,...

The long-awaited third entry in the Tron franchise is finally heading into production. Six years after it was first announced that Jared Leto was in talks to star in a Tron project called Tron: Ares, the movie was all set to start filming last August – but then it had to wait out the writers and actors strikes. With those strikes over, the production is ready to go now – and Deadline reports that The X-Files star Gillian Anderson has signed on to join the cast. Details on the character she’ll be playing have not been revealed.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales director Joachim Rønning is at the helm of Tron: Ares. In addition to Leto and Anderson, the film also stars Evan Peters (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story), Greta Lee (Past Lives), Cameron Monaghan (Gotham), Sarah Desjardins (Yellowjackets), and...

Despite playing mother and daughter in "Mother's Day," Julia Roberts and Britt Robertson are not related in real life. Julia Roberts is an idol to Britt Robertson, who cited "Pretty Woman" as her favorite childhood movie. Working with Roberts on "Mother's Day" was a dream come true for Robertson, who had a positive experience with the veteran actress.
After the two actresses appeared together in Mother's Day, people began to wonder, is Britt Robertson related to Julia Roberts? Released in 2016, Mother's Day is a romantic dramedy directed by Garry Marshall. The movie takes place in Atlanta, Georgia in the days leading up to the eponymous day, and centers on an ensemble of characters' interconnected storylines, including Roberts' Miranda and Robertson's Kristin. Mother's Day is the third film in Marshall's unofficial holiday movie trilogy, alongside 2010's Valentine's Day and 2011's New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, none of these movies were particularly well-reviewed,...

When Bad Bunny dropped his first-ever album X100PRE, it spread through the internet like good gossip. It was Christmas Eve in 2018, the same year that Bad Bunny had exploded as a global megastar — appearing on The Tonight Show and singing during Alesso’s set at Tomorrowland — despite being an independent artist with no full-length project under his belt. What he did have was nearly hundreds of successful trap hits and a following he had named “La Nueva Religión,” which would go on to make him the most listened to...

Monsters have been representing primal fears since time immemorial, and the best of them are capable of adapting to evolving societal fears. From werewolves occasionally becoming metaphors for puberty to zombies going from supernatural slaves to viral consumerism, there’s plenty of multifaceted creatures to choose from. That’s why it’s fitting that the King of the Monsters himself has seen so many wildly different variations over the years.
Originally a physical manifestation of the fear of the atomic bomb, with the first film being produced a mere 7 years after the nuclear destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Godzilla would end up spawning a multimedia franchise as the radioactive dinosaur accidentally became a national icon. Over time, toys, games and countless toned-down sequels ended up diluting the character’s original purpose: to terrify audiences as a giant monster inspired by real-world horrors.

Disney's decision to avoid the sci-fi genre after the box office bomb of Tomorrowland was a big mistake. The success of the recent original sci-fi movie, The Creator, suggests that Disney should reconsider its avoidance of the genre. The Creator received solid reviews and is performing well in its home release, proving that Disney can find success with sci-fi films if they are of high quality.
The latest science fiction movie released by Disney proves that a 2015 decision to steer clear of the sci-fi genre was a big mistake. In 2015, Disney suffered one of its biggest box office bombs with the release of Tomorrowland, based on the futuristic “themed land” of the same name from Magic Kingdom. The movie stars George Clooney as a grizzled inventor whose passion for science is reignited when he teams up with a teenage genius to explore an alternate dimension.
