I don't know if it's that I'm growing out of the franchise or what, but this was really bad. Don't get me wrong. I loved watching SpongeBob growing up and it had a special place in my heart. I'm hoping it's just a a Netflix issue, but again, this sucked. If you're going in here expecting the classic SpongeBob shenanigans you're going to get that. It's the human stuff that sucked. It was cheap, low quality, poorly written, and even cringe inducing. For a SpongeBob movie, you need to focus on your main characters. I did however like the Cheeks family. The writing just wasn't good. I just don't think SpongeBob and humans mix well. It just seems like the SpongeBob franchise is one that is hard to translate from short TV episodes to full length movies.

I'll be honest, I'm one of those people that were patient enough to wait until it comes on Netflix rather than to ruin it for everyone else by watching the leak. Now that I have officially watched this movie, I have began to understand the people saying it's terrible. In fact, it came out worse than I thought. Saving Bikini Bottom is hands down, the worst SpongeBob movie so far. I can name a little bit of positives like a decent addition with Sandy's family and how the designs try to stay true to the series, but they're just small ones compared to a good chunk amount of problems this movie has to carry. The writing didn't even try to make this a proper Sandy Cheeks spin-off, the story is very little, the humor is painfully unfunny, the animation is mediocre and sometimes look more fitting for a video game, the characters have barely a development for the movie, and the pacing for this is so rushed that it felt more of an extended special of the show. If there's one SpongeBob movie I recommend to skip, it's got to be this one. There are plenty of stuff from SpongeBob that are more better than this, whether if it's other of the movies or even episodes of the series. It honestly feels a real shame that Sandy Cheeks was unable to live up the potential for her spin-off and was a complete waste of time. I don't think I should even call this wasted potential. It's more in the levels of a soulless product. Also, I've heard that the next movie, Search For SquarePants, is going to involve producers from the first season of the series. If that's the case, then I should hope that next movie will be better. I'm rooting for you, Flying Dutchman.

Out of the blue, Bikini Bottom gets scooped out of the ocean by BOOTS (Bureau Of Official Texas Science) Laboratory and Water Park. Sandy and SpongeBob avoid capture. Sandy knows them. The duo sets off to rescue everybody.
I actually like the first part of the movie up to the first drop to BOOTS. I didn't understand the low rating and then I saw the rest of the movie. I hate the family. They are just annoying chaos for annoying chaos' sake. I never really needed a back story for Sandy. It was always better to leave it up to the imagination. The infinite worst part is Wanda Sykes and her two minions. This is a bad version of Spy Kids. I like the original Spy Kids for what it is and it is not the same as SpongeBob SquarePants. Somebody do not understand why SpongeBob is good. It is not being a wacky kids show.

We were excited to watch this for movie night. After the first 15 minutes we made ourselves keep watching.to see if it got better. It didn't . We continued to watch though to see how much worse it could get and it did. The water stated 7 years and older but it really should have been 7 years and under. If we went to the theatre to see this I would have been more excited about the free popcorn refills. Super young ones will probably laugh and enjoy it at least. Definitely was not what we were expecting from all the previous movies. The human fish will be stuck in our minds forever. We chose to finish the movie so that's on us, but at this point fart jokes would have been easier to watch.

...it really took a turn for the worse. The first half of the movie wasn't that bad. This movie was initially like putting on a comfortable pair of pajamas, comfortable and familiar. But at the specific point where my family all turned to each other and said, "That's just like Shark Boy and Lava Girl" (if you've seen this movie, you'll know exactly the moment), that was the point of no return. It was all downhill after that.
All of the familiar characters were well performed. As for the human element...geez. One of the characters at one point asks, "Wait...we get a paycheck?". Yes, and that's clearly all this was for.
The lackluster performances and abysmal CGI drag the movie down to the point of not being enjoyable. 4/10 is maybe generous, but that's where I'll land.

I could write a full on review of this movie, but honestly, there's no point, because there's almost definitely someone who has said it all already. I was apathetic and lifeless throughout the entire viewing experience. Nobody should ever suffer what those who watched this movie did. It was a complete waste of time in every way and is an abomination which shamelessly ripped off of other, far superior animated movies, like Flushed Away, with the villains. At least Sponge out of Water and Sponge on the Run are funny bad. This is soulless and lifeless. Spare yourself your sanity, PLEAAASSSEEEEEE!

I grew up with Spongebob since the early 2000s. I am not disappointed in the movie; I am infuriated! What has become of our beloved childhood show?! The story is lackluster, the CGI in the 2nd half is atrocious, the live acting is subpar, the whole movie is done so poorly. I don't get why the characters have to make "ooo" and "ahh" sounds at every physical movement. It is annoying and adds nothing to the story. The first Spongebob movie was great, and should've been the perfect way to end the series. The 2nd movie was decent, but honestly, I would have been content if we only got the first three seasons and the first movie. Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is a disrespect to Sandy, and more so to Stephen Hillenburg.
This is a horrible movie. You can tell that this movie is very low budget. The animation is horrible, The plot lines are none existent and the characters feel dead inside. The live action at times can be disturbing to watch, especially during the time when the main villain turns into a cg robot and starts moving around with the real life head attached to this horrible cg garbage. Please for you sanity please just don't watch this movie. Trust me i would rather watch another SpongeBob movie including the 3rd one rather then this. This makes the 3rd movie look like a masterpiece. So anyways that's why i justify this movie getting a 1/10 rating, i mean i would give lower if i can.

Downvote the positive reviews all you want but this movie is really fun. I think the spin off movies for netflix (which are like extended tv movies) are a great way to give the other characters more spotlight and backstory. I really liked the cheeks family and the backstory of Sandy being in a circus with her family before she moved into the ocean. I liked the plot of the entire bikini bottom being scooped up by the scientists that sandy use to work for, just so they can clone the characters into marketable toys. The villian is very goofy and over the top cartoony despite being live action was pretty funny mixed with the dry humor with her 2 employees. The entire movie is very surreal with crazy visuals, and the actual animation is extremely expressive and fluid for a straight to streaming movie. I'm impressed they were able to have the characters (especially spongebob) have the exaggerated spongebob style in 3D, it has very strong boarding and poses. It's very goofy and silly, i think some people need more whimsy and fun into their lives. Yeehaw.

Let me start by saying that my two grandsons loved this film. I don't know what is up with all of the bad reviews, except that it's probably a bunch of adults that didn't like it.
This was not intended for reviewers on IMDb. The boys thoroughly enjoyed it, and that was the reason for watching the movie. Yes, it was corny and could've been better, but I wasn't looking for a movie for myself.
If you have a little kids in your life, they will like it. There was a few scenes were actually dead laugh out loud myself. Not enough of the regular Bikini Bottom's characters, too much of Sandy Cheek's, family, but still super cute.

So i just saw the Sandy Checks movie and it's hands down the worst ever SpongeBob project, The storyline was really rushed, the humor was embarrassingly bad, and the animation was far beyond terrible, not to mention the CGI being worse then Green Lantern. I really don't like the new characters and i think the actors could have done a much better job, and the writing for this movie is so bad that it's undesirable. This movie should have been about SpongeBob and not Sandy. I hope they learn from their mistakes for the next movie and fingers crossed that they make the animation OG SpongeBob style.

I wanted give movie benefit of doubt but Nickelodeon just keep milking Spongebob dry to point its unrecognised series just awful cash grab like Simpsons, family guy and futurama now. The idea of having Sandy focus is good on paper but problem is execution of it the story is so bland my little sister who seven didn't enjoy this she said its too boring. The jokes are stale and animation is worst than last movie and main villian is one of worst.
My issue is why is spongebob able to breathe in surface this is contradiction since in show Spongebob and Patrick needed water tank to breathe in Sandy dome now he can breathe on surface without any problems.
This is one of worst movies I watched another pathetic cash grab your better off watching first 3 movies because I'm not excited upcoming one bad story, the characters are one dimensional and Sandy as character doesn't developed. Don't watch this.

For those who are confused, back in January of 2024, this movie had been somehow leaked onto Twitter and many users have watched prior to it's official release. Having seen it back, I kept on waiting for it's wide release to fully discuss but now it's release is near, I must say as someone who has grew up watching SpongeBob, this movie proves how Nickelodeon has fallen and continues to show how greedy they have become.
Despite some colorful animation, this movie really fails to understand what made the original SpongeBob series and the classic first movie great. Rather being creative, funny and unique, the humor, character personalities, and narrative choices have run down the well like dried straws and have become annoying, stale, and repetitive to it's finest. Many of the animation and designs feel cheap with it's awful dialogue, comedic tones, and concepts (which admittedly are good but bad execution comes). Even with it's performance cast couldn't save such a movie.
Stephen Hillenburg is currently rolling in his grave and if he were to come out, he would strangle Nickelodeon for how much they have completely sabotaged his amazing works on Spongebob Squarepants.

I did not expect this movie to be so bad. This makes sponge on the run. Look like an Oscar winning movie do not watch. It it's terrible just terrible if you wanna waste 1 hour and 24 minutes of your life then go ahead I would rather Watch Joshua and the promised land on repeat for 50 hours straight then watch this garbage again and the animation is terrible.just terrible they ruined this spin off for sandy and SpongeBob was just so annoying and childish this movie is just Bad.and the Songs are just so bad Look I've been a SpongeBob Fan for years but this is just bad Just Bad don't watch it SpongeBob These years is just terrible.
Given I'm like, the third reviewer to leave a legitimate review of the movie, I feel like to no ones surprise, the ones before me were valid enough.
What made the first SpongeBob movie so good? Was it that it was made with heart for original viewers, whether young or old? Was it that it made a story that not only taught an amazing lesson, but gave a memory for people to hold onto? Or is it because it's WAS SUPPOSE TO BE THE END?!
Amazing animation, terrible story, awesome character designs, abysmal acting for the live action people, The DOG was the best actor for gods sake!
It feels like the movie is trying to do everything it can to make its audience laugh, I swear SpongeBob is less a character and more just there.
The development with Sandy and her family was nice, to bad it'll be forgotten by the next movie though!
It's not even a movie for kids, it's a baby movie, even Rugrats, The Movie, a movie about babies, IS MORE MATURE THAN THIS!
At least with Sponge on the run it had good pacing with the plot, great moments with the character, this just feels like a broken plot of an episode, and I have a feeling an actual script was written here, but between every line was written "SpongeBob does the funny" "Sandy is smart" "Patrick is dumb" etc. Etc.
I can't wait to see YouTube's thoughts on this one!
2/10, Nick, you're not even making a profit at this rate, Netflix, BRING BACK INSIDE JOB!

The CGI is really bad and unsettling at some moments like Kamp Koral but the writing is also lazy with some weird foot fetish moments despite people who work on the show being involved on this. The villain is also boring and it's just a generic diverse female Ernst Stavro Blofeld type villain who's mostly a ripoff of Burger Beard from Sponge Out of Water but without any of the charm that character had. The musical stuff were unnecessary and the CGI animation didn't help unlike the musical scenes from the previous films like i'm a goofy goober which were catchy and the new characters like the robot horse and Sandy's family are extremely forgettable. Better wait for The Search for Squarepants instead of watching a low budget TV film ripoff.

Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie is proof that some characters are supporting for good reason. It's a zany, colourful, sugar rush of a film that's clearly made for an extremely young audience that constantly moves between being occasionally funny and constantly awful in a way that has its own rewards. Even at just under 90 minutes it's pushing its luck.
All the returning cast members have played these characters for so long that they're naturals at this. Any intentional laughs come from how loveable these characters are and Tom Kenny in particular remains endlessly endearing as SpongeBob. However, the performance that's the most memorable is easily Wanda Sykes, who is just awful from her first moments and manages to overact whilst phoning it in.
Liza Johnson's direction is bad, especially when compared to previous entries. It's very easy to see why this one has been sent to streaming since it looks noticeably cheaper than all of its predecessors with live action and animation blended in such a terrible way, some of which has to be intentional but that doesn't excuse it. The only part that looks competent is the opening set in Bikini Bottom.

It's SpongeBob's next big adventure! And the more you watch it, the worse it gets. Before going into this, I heard people were declaring it to be the worst SpongeBob movie since "Sponge on the Run". And that got me thinking that it was not going to be a good SpongeBob movie, but at least it could be an alright kids movie. As long as the animation was nice and the jokes worked half the time, I could sit through this without losing my sanity.
But sweet Neptune, was this film bad. And not just the unfunny type of bad, but it was the unprofessional filmmaking type of bad. The story centers around Sandy and SpongeBob going on a quest to save Bikini Bottom from Sandy's corrupted science organization back in Texas. Slapstick occurs, we get to learn the origins of Sandy's family, and we get some extra insight into her character.
On paper, this sounds like a pretty fun set up. I'd even go as slivers of this film would fit in a much better story. The designs of her family aren't too bad. And I really like the design of the circus themed vehicle they travel in. They even show the creative ways on how tiny animals can control a human vehicle. It feels straight out of a children's book. I also believe that Sandy would debate with herself whether or not it was best to leave Texas without telling her folks.
I even like the twist of the main villain using her collected data on Bikini Bottom's residents to capitalize on the rare talking fish. Within the trash pile, there are snippets of creativity that could have been used to make a solid family film. But once the interesting moments slip away, the film strangely becomes an uncomfortable fright fest. With terrible live action scenes erasing the biggest smiles.
The acting from the human characters is awful, some of the worst I've seen in Nickelodeon films. Not only are they giving little to no emotion, but the writing wouldn't even make toddlers laugh. It's weird because I've seen Ilia Isorelýs Paulino in One Piece Live Action and she acted fine there. Considering that a director that specialized in dramas was selected for the job. I'm blaming the producer on this one.
Though I do have another theory that this film was rushed by studio interference. Not just because there a ton of plot holes where foreshadowed jokes never receive a payoff, such as Plankton's failed clone machine. But the terrible effects in the live action shots where Sue Nahmee has her head attached to a young child, a robot, and the mouth of a fish look horrifying. I think they were designed to look goofy, but the way she moves her head looks legitimately uncanny. Your kids will have nightmares for all the wrong reasons. I swear aside from "Over the Hedge" and "Rio", Wanda Sykes can never seem to find good films to act in.
Overall, I recommend you skip this film. The bad animation in the live action scenes will make even the most positive SpongeBob fans uncomfortable. You're better off watching the original movie or "Sponge Out of Water".

This movie was so worth the wait and Nickelodeon's money the actors were hilarious and so was the script. The plot was exciting and silly, and don't get me started on the animation why are the live action actors so funny? SpongeBob and he's friends are animated so beautifully it's candy to my eyes. This was the best movie than any other SpongeBob movie and I WILL! Recommend this amazing , hilarious, ADVENTUROUS , movie. This was just a great spin off movie for Nickelodeon to get some more spongebob content in their friendly, caring, sharing and WICKED pockets this movie literally bumped the show for me it has funny season 13 humor that nobody in their RIGHT MIND hates if I could give a million stars I WOULD.

This has got to be the worst SpongeBob movie out of all SpongeBob films. This was one of my most anticipated 2024 animated movies, but unfortunately, it took a turn for the worst.
I was pretty disappointed at this movie, this movie could have been better. The animation was terrible, the comedy was terrible, the writing was terrible, it's not worth watching. The movie also has probably the WORST CGI I have ever seen. The studio tries its best to blend animation with live action, but it just ends up looking like garbage. They could have done better with the CGI. The movie also has one of the most boring villain I have ever seen. The villain is unfunny and not that entertaining, and the villain is just straight up dull for most of the movie.
I really wish that Nickelodeon would do better with this, but they unfortunately put out one of the worst movies of the year. Hopefully the search for SquarePants movie coming out in 2025 can be better than this garbage. Nickelodeon really needs to better.

I am a big fan of SpongeBob, the series. I also love he 3 first movies that appeared.
So with a great excitement I started to watch this with my family. I cannot find the words to express how disappointed we all were. Already the first 15-20 minutes and we started all to have that gut feeling that something is terribly not working with this movie. We kept watching in hope it will get better. Then it was clear it will not. Then we were watching in hope that it will at least contain some funny scenes. It was also not the case..
Everything with this move is wrong
1 Jokes are so unfunny, that we were thinking if this is not some "parody" of a SpongeBob movie 2. The story and the pacing was not holding well 3. CGI and visual side of the movie was.. just ok but not great 4. And then the worse.. the villains.
Not sure how they could do the villans in such a bad way. The acting is completely wooden and unconvincing. It did not even fell like a proper movie. I twas so cheap and bad like you would watch some low budget series from the 80s. Imagine live action Power Rangers from the 80s/90s or this cheap and boring superheroes series that Nickelodeon is showing now.
This felt like a badly made fan-fic not a proper SpongeBob movie. Or like a counterfait SpongeBob movie bought for 5$ on TEMU.
