Though our FB status might say otherwise, most of our relationships today are complicated and according to Atlee the most complicated relationship of all time is Marriage. Hence, in his maiden venture, he has attempted to unwind the knot of all knots and to a great extent has succeeded too.
Raja Rani, a story based on the lives of four individuals and how the ripples they create end up canceling each other. What begins as a Catholic style marriage soon shifts to an apartment with the couples bickering at each other with the utmost fury like the lions and the Gladiators. But deep inside, both present a flashback with love as a common link. Who succeeds, Love or The lovers or the couples? You know what to do to know the answer.
Atlee, the débutante deserves appreciation for several reasons, for choosing a script free from heroism and Newton defying action sequences, for choosing a strong cast (Who would have imagined the Lungi clad villain of Naan Kadavul in a Reid & Taylor with a funny bone), for using these casts to deliver the message in almost every scene without making a fuzz about it.
Arya, Nayanthara, Jai, Nazriya have successfully brought life to the characters. The supporting cast including Santhanam, Sathyaraj, 'Naan Kadavul' Rajender have also done justice to their roles. Arya has retained his lover boy image with Santhanam as his side kick. Jai has ensured that we don't miss Santhanam in the first half. Nazriya's potential glimmers and with that enchanting look, she is definitely here to stay. Nayanthara's fasting with Tamil cinema is finally over and one hopes that she continues to entertain in the coming years. Santhanam has proved his mettle once again. Sathyaraj bring tears and at the same time helps us wipe it off.
The complications of any relationship can be easily dealt with once we realize that is complicated. 'Misunderstanding' can cause greater mayhem than what Katrina did to US. A clean mind and a willing heart is all it takes to make any relationship work. Though Atlee sprinkled many advice throughout, one refuses to leave my hearing apparatus and I've translated it to my best, "No couple are born in this world as 'made for each other'. It's how you live that makes it meaningful"

Must watch for all Newlyweds and those awaiting.

A cool breezy entertainer. Director Atlee made an awesome entry in Kollywood with this brilliant movie. though the wine is old, but the package was promising. I enjoyed a lot. All credits goes to this young director to make this movie a memorable one. The casting was extra ordinary: Arya, Nayanthara, Jai, Nazriya, Sathyan and Sathyaraj. Nayanthara was ravishing, Nazriya looked as short cutie, Jai was good and Arya was the correct fit for that character. Nayanthara's performance was extraordinary, well i wud say, she returned to Kollywood with a BANG!!!! Sathyaraj's father character was good, he performed well.. Though Santhanam was playing the comedy part, but also he did a wonderful character in serious role. Music was enjoyable and the BGM was extremely blended with the movie. Kudos to GVP. Raja Rani was the perfect family entertainer with the correct mixture of Comedy, Romance, Sentiments & Music. One of the best romantic movies around. Don't wait for the DVD or the pirated copy, try to watch it in the theater itself.

I and my wife were feeling bored and went to see this movie in Shanti theater, Hyderabad.
Initially we thought this is a regular movie.
The starting scene with heart touching music welcomes you to the movie rather nicely.
Thereafter every scene is like a fresh scene. I am glued to my seat waiting to see what will happen next.
Then there are many scenes in the movie that produced tears in our eyes.
Every scene was nicely presented with awesome music.
There is right blend of humor as well.
Nayanatara has produced one of the best acting. It is rare to see a good role being played by female in a south Indian movie.
OVerall simply vow, what a surprise, really heart touching movie. Redefines what love is all about.
There is life after love, there is love after marriage.

Excellent one from Director. Useful to youth who suicide after love failure. Good sentimental movie. Family Entertainer . All the Actors did their part well int the movie.
The first half is about the love story of the Heroine and the second half is about the love story of hero. Director maintained good suspense all over movie without feeling bore.
Cast - Arya,Jai,Nayanathra,Nazriya Nazim, Santhanam,Sathyaraj,Rajendran and many more.
The story begins with John (Arya) and Regina (Nayanthara) getting married at a church. John and Regina have agreed to get married just to make their parents happy. When they take their wedding vows Regina utters her lover's name 'Surya.' Upon hearing this,Regina's father faints in the church. Regina feels sorry for her father and ends up marrying John. They live in a flat and John comes home every night drunk deliberately to disturb Regina. Their neighbors are also annoyed by this attitude of John and chides Regina one morning when this nuisance gets worse. They also try to irritate each other in every possible way. Eventually, Regina applies for transfer to stay away from John and he is not affected by this decision.

AR Muruhadoss production, Atlee's direction,GV Prakash Kumar's music wow everything is simply superb. Arya,Jai,Nayantara,Nazriya each and everyone scores full on their performance.. After a long time a movie for all genres not just college students, also for families.. There is Love after Love A life after love nice message well executed...
Sathyaraj as Nayantara's father was is a modern and darling Papa who fulfills all her daughter's wishes, while Santhanam a "Nanbaenda" of Arya this time not just makes funny one liners but also says touching dialogs.. "Nan Kadavul"Rajendran,Sathyan etc., also did their job well..
George. C. Williams's Cinematography is a perfect blend of class and romance in a colorful and emotional mood with perfect captures.. Anthony L. Ruben is not to be blamed..
There are very few drags but thats alright..
ATLEE has given a superb movie and it is gonna be one of the biggest hits of 2013 both critically as well as commercially...
GV prakash music songs are blossoming and background music is melting.. Only the beats used for the funny track is exactly lifted from "Polladhavan".. Oday Odey song is a peppy romantic dance roller coaster while "Imaye Imaye" is a sad climax song with emotions...
Arya is just Awesome, his dialog delivery and actions are impressive.. Jai is amazing and funny dialogs were ROFL in this movie
Nazriya was very active in acting and bubbly too.. Nayantara after a long time did an excellent performance ESP in the scene where she cries.. excellent..
overall RAJARANI is a lovely movie that stands unique in presentation, though not a great or a new journer it is surely set to leave the cinema hall with a smile and some thoughts...
RAJA RANI- LETS MAKE WAY FOR THE KING AND QUEEN

The movie was well shot and beautifully presented... this flick is more like a real life coz there's no evil villain who drives other people crazy with his psychologically disordered behavior...! Surprisingly the choreography and soundtracks were great.... but the BGM sux (same ra... ra...) I think screenplay is the backbone of this film... Atlee has done a fabulous work which turned an ordinary story into watchable film!!! All the characters done a fair job to do not disappoint their director's expectations...! The trailers have been released so far are nothing to do with this film's storyline... coz that's what they wanted, they wanted to confuse us and do not get the story visual. well... they succeeded with me. the hype for this film was worth!!!

With lots of excitement I went to watch this movie in theatre(the day before its release in India!!). The expectation is may be due to so many reasons like Nayan's come back after boss, same set Nayan, Arya, Santhanam, attractive teasers on you tube, Good stardom in the movie. With all those weights I watched it and of course I should say I enjoyed it over all.
"Raja Rani" as for as the plot it is the same after marriage rehabilitation type recipe cooked with new ingredients. The teaser tells the story so nothing new (just like Mouna raagam or Silunu oru kadhal types) on that side but quite entertaining screenplay that will keep you engaged through out.
The movie can be watched with family since it has got good share of all elements sentiment, comedy, romance, suspense etc. All credits goes to the young debutant director "Atlee". Good work for a first movie.
Coming to the performances the lead roles Arya fits picture perfect and it is not a quite challenging role for him but did it well. Nayantara we could say it is a back with a bang after three years. She has done it well in terms of acting, chemistry with arya and Jai. But she has to definitely work on her physics (mean her size) since sometimes she seems to be aged for both lead men. Santhanam is not just the comedy spice here but has done a character role. Satyaraj has been seen in recent movies settling down in good character and support roles so as in this movie. Jai and Nazria Nazim plays the love interests of the leads in the flash back were good on their roles. The cliché is we see Jai's character is the same as his previous flick Engeyum Eppodhum. Nazria was short and cute. BGM in the title score was awesome. Music was OK. Cinematography was good. Costume design has to be mentioned so many times we think the leads are like modelling for brands. Particularly Arya who was a model turned actor. Get in for an entertaining Rom-Com of the year.

Not a different story but had this been given to director like maniratnam the movie would have been perfect.
The movie lacks several things, most important is romance or the way how relationship is portrayed. Director is very bad at this.
1.people in a relationship like john-nayanthara wont sleep in the same bed, but director shows as if they sleep in the same bed.
2.next satyraj acts as a stupid father, like sending his daughter to argue with a policeman.
3. jai-nayan relationship is very fake. Jai is like a beta male dating a dominant female.
4. dialogues are lifeless mostly 5. Unnecessary crying/yelling scenes.
6. nazriya intro - new low 7. nazriya -arya romance another headache, arya acts like a moron and nazriya like 16 yr old girl.
8. Mottai rajendran flashback is the stupidest point of the film.
9. the film is 2.30hrs. If most of the crap is cut down the movie can be finished in 1 hr.
10. Climax -blah blah blah.
Music is good but someplaces they are unnecessary.
Overall a half baked movie from an inexperienced director who just shows his name in big fonts for some reason.

When this movie was released, just like any other Tamil movies I was not at all interested to watch thinking this would be another love story without offering anything new. The very next day after the release of the movie, I heard fantastic reviews about it from my friends and as well as review websites. Finally I went to watch the movie the third day of the release and it was a joy to watch. Even made my eyes wet at some of the emotional scenes. If in live you have loved anyone or failed in love, you should watch this movie.. For those guys, this is a "must watch before you die" category movie. You will never regret spending your time and money for this movie. HatsOff to Nayantara, Arya, Jai and Nazriya for their wonderful performance. Also special mention to Santhanam, for his "Nanban" character which he portrays in most of his movies and I kinda like them very much cos friendship is such a thing. Also not to forget the director Atlee, for his lovable creation. Highly recommended...

Raja Rani is an tamil Romantic - Comedy movie directed by debutante Atlee Kumar, who previously worked with Shankar as an assistant in Enthiran (2010) and produced by A. R. Murugadoss in association with Fox Star Studios. The film features Arya, Nayantara and Jai in the lead roles.
THE film delivers classy romance. a promising debut by ATLEE. CINEMATOGRAPHY is excellent. Arya is very good in the lead role. This character is tailor made for him. His performance in the flashback scenes is very impressive. Nayanatara's performance is flawless and she owns this show. There are many moments that show the brilliance of this young director. This film has Life in it! The film made by director Atli has been well-received by Tamil audience. Debutant director Atlee's highly hyped Raja Rani starts off promisingly and keeps us engaged. Performance by lead actors , music , concept are highlights of the film. Raja Rani has it all good looking stars, big budget, rich look, peppy music, technically glitzy. there are traces of Mani Ratnam classic Mouna Ragam. GV Prakash's music is definitely one of the highlights of the film. And cinematographer George C Williams camera is eye-catching with terrific visuals and colours. Two hours and forty five minutes have never felt longer. lead actors' performances are the main attractions in the film. Tamil film industry too has been adopting this pattern of multistarrer film.
It's difficult to say who'd walk with all the accolades and all the lead actors were perfect in their roles.

The director deserves credit for giving the audience such a entertainer in his maiden movie itself. The actors did a creditable job. I loved Sathyaraj's characterization and pray god that parents are as cool n' cozy as him. Cuz, these days I read lot of girls/boys committing suicide from the papers. A huge assist by George Willy with his instrument for this movie. G.V's score is superb ( I loved Aarya's introduction bgm which lasted few seconds ). The songs which are few, quite entertaining I believe as we can expect more than one genre in each track (something uncommon in a Tamil movie).
There are two vital dislikes for 'me' in this and they are : (1) Sadly the movie is inspired from a couple of older movies (both from 80's- first one of Mohan's and other half Bhakiaraj's)... (2) IMO, scenes of irritating melodrama due to the fact "I" hate lasses love and people crying because of that. Sure, the director took some Johar's touch with the female actor's cry.

About directroy Atlee:
These days new directors are clearly knows, 1. what kind of scenes has to be avoided to make the movies neither good(super) nor bad(mokka). 2. And some the new directors even knows what are all the scenes they have to include in the movie to make the hit movie.
Atlee's success falls in these 2 categories and he perfectly delivered Raja rani with all of the success factors. Atlee is too good in pull the best out of the crew and he made admirable scenes in every frame. keep up the smart work.
Top list of cast's performance in Raja Rani: 1. Jai - Very fresh and new character in Tamil cinema 2. Nayanthara - Fantastic acting, especially in crying scenes. 3. Sathyaraj - Even his appearance is very short, he made his best.
At the whole it is a must watch movie.
Advice to director Atlee: if you reduce commercial elements in your next movie, definitely you will become the one the finest director in Indian cinema. And always don't follow your guru director Shankar to spend meaningless expense. Congrats to Atlee for giving us the wonderful movie.

Raja Rani took me by surprise. The characters all started out looking like idiots, Jai who plays Surya was crying in every scene and Arya who plays John was drunk in every other scene. Nayanthara and Nazriya both play amazing woman, both are strong, beautiful and know what they want. A good cast overall, though at the start you may feel like walking out the cinema with the pure ridiculousness, however it gets better.
The supporting cast however are all brilliant and Regina's father especially stands out. The relationship he has with his daughter is beautiful and his support for her is absolute throughout the movie.
Story wise I was looking forward to seeing how John and Regina grew to love one another after marriage, instead we just see them fight and snub one another 24/7. What happens next takes me by surprise, they jump into a flashback about Regina's past and the man who meant everything to her. It turned out to be the entire first half of the movie, the flashback that is. Then it's back to the present and soon after another flashback this time about John's past, which is the entire second half of the movie.
The story is interesting though I'd definitely have preferred much shorter flashbacks with more focus on the present, either way it still works pretty well.
The one thing I love about the story is the fact that a girl like Regina can be totally in love with a guy like Surya, she even made all the moves, I was frankly stunned watching it unfold. The reason I like it so much is because if Surya can have Regina fall in love with him, then there is hope for every other guy out there as well, including me.
The music is nice, but none of the songs really spoke to me during my viewing of the movie. May require some re-listening to get into them.
Male Actors & Acting: 5/10 (Their behavior was just ridiculous).
Female Actresses & Acting: Well deserved 9/10.
Supporting Cast: 8.5/10 (Regina's dad really stands out).
Storyline: 6/10 (Interesting but unexpected).
Music: 6/10 (Will update if it changes).
All in all a solid film, good cast, slightly questionable acting, good storyline and decent music. A well deserved 6/10 from me.

Raja Rani (2013) :
Brief Review -
Mani Ratnam's classic tale of love after marriage, "Mouna Ragam," almost pulled down to an unbearable level. I have seen many Mani Ratnam classics, and Mohan and Revathi's Mouna Ragam (1986) still beats many of them. The best use of the same 'love after marriage' theory was seen in Aditya Chopra's "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi" (2008), with the idea of dual personalities. Mouna Ragam still stands tall for the sophisticated results of love in its purest form. Atlee's Raja Rani adds the deaths of previous lovers to it and copy-pastes the rest of the formula blindly. What about the modern changes required for the film? I mean, how the heck can anybody show love in such a hasty form? Mouna Ragam takes time so that you can see where that feeling of love is actually generated, and moreover, it does not force the love from either of the sides. Here, Atlee pushed everything in the cheap comedy sector and literally destroyed the legacy and goodwill of Mani Ratnam's classic. Mouna Ragam was not fully original. It took inspiration from a couple of Hollywood flicks of the 1930s and a few Bengali/Hindi films of the 1950s (I am not sure if the Tamil or Telugu industries of the 50s or 60s had any references), but it forms a solid formula of love that stays in your mind and heart. Raja Rani starts off on a disastrous note because the character does not look convincing. What's more hurtful is that their earlier love lives weren't convincing either. How cheap those two stories looked. Something what we see in B-grade films. The married life is stretched for no reason, and yet it does not get enough time to create vibes. Arya, Jai, Nayanthara, and Nazriya Nazim's performances are somewhat tolerable, but half the time they act like they are acting in a low-grade, cheap comedy. Average music, scattered screenplay, and immature direction make Raja Rani a King Queen-sized mediocrity. Love deserves mature theories, not this.
