Bharathanatyam (2024)
A Blend of Comedy & Emotions
Written and Directed by Krishnadas Murali, Bharatanatyam might not offer a groundbreaking storyline, but its execution makes it a standout. The core plot is inspired from Rajasenan's Swapnalokathe Balabhaskaran and felt familiar. However, it's in the storytelling and direction where Bharatanatyam excels, especially with its well-timed comedy and engaging narration.
The film's comedy works beautifully, delivering plenty of rib-tickling moments that keep you entertained throughout. Although the climax may be predictable, its emotional impact is undeniable. When a director succeeds in bringing tears to your eyes, it's clear they've done their job well, and Murali certainly achieves this.
Saiju Kurup shines as the main protagonist, portraying the role of a family man with authenticity and depth. His emotional range fits perfectly within the film's tone. Saikumar also impresses, his character's turmoil conveyed through subtle, expressive performances. Abhiram Radhakrishnan is notable as the scheming friend, while Kalaranjini, Sreeja Ravi, Divya M. Nair, and Manikandan all contribute meaningfully to the narrative. The only letdown comes from the twin characters, whose performances felt somewhat lacking in emotional nuance, preventing them from fully connecting with the audience.
On the technical front, Samuel Ebi's music complements the film but could have been more impactful. Bablu Aju's cinematography, however, stands out, seamlessly blending with the fast-paced narration to enhance the viewing experience.
Overall, Bharatanatyam is an engaging and emotionally resonant film that never drags, providing a well-rounded cinematic experience. Krishnadas Murali's direction ensures that, despite a familiar storyline, the movie remains fresh and entertaining.
Vishesham (2024)
Really a Good One!!!
Started watching this movie with low expectations and went out well. I have enjoyed the movie whole throughout.
Vishesham movie revolves around a couple in 30s facing infertility issues and their struggles and hope. Comedy, Sentiments and Drama worked out well whole. Sooraj Tom's execution and narration to Anand Madhusoodanan's script was pretty good. The scriptwriter played the main lead and he was good in his acting but his shaking off head in every dialogue was little awkward. Chinnu who played the female lead portrayed her character very well. She was charismatic and played the emotional part very well.
Music was good and soothing. The camerawork was not so brilliant but was etched with the movie.
All the characters in the movie was good and they really played their part well. I loved most of the dialogues in the movie. Some of the scenes were hilarious. And also, i loved the part were the movie conveyed so many messages in the dialogues and also with their actions.
Baiju, Althaf Salim, Johny Antony, Vineeth Thattil and cameo by Dileesh Pothan played their roles well.
All in whole, a good light hearted comedy that worked in conveying a social message which is relevant at this stage of our livelihood.
Kishkindha Kaandam (2024)
a Poignant Thriller not to be missed
One of the best gripping movie in the recent times which will make you think, think, think and even more.
Brilliantly mind bended by Bahul Ramesh and canvassed by Dinjith Ayyathan gives you the thrill in this slow paced mystery thriller. The story revolves around Army Officer and his family in the remote Wayanadu area.
Story, screenplay and dialogues were absolutely done by Bahul Ramesh and his cinematography made more impact to the whole movie. The narration was so gripping and etched with the audience. Dinjith did a wonderful job here.
Talking about the performances; Asif Ali and Vijayaraghavan deserves a standing ovation. Vijayaraghavan delivered his finest performance in his lifetime, no wonder he gets an award for his portrayal of Appu Pillai. Asif Ali is a real underrated gem in Malayalam Industry. His recent movies are the perfect example.
Aparna Balamurali, Jagadeesh, Ashokan was impressive. Nishan delivered a good one too.
Mujeeb Majeed is another backbone of the movie with his haunting and eerie background score which will make you glued to the movie's ambience and theme.
There were some continuity problems in between could have been avoided. In between, the story was predictable for me but the climax twist was too good.
All in whole
One movie that not to be missed.
9 on 10.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
Wonderful Experience!!
As a fan of Mad Max Saga and George Miller who is very famous for portraying the wasteland stories, I was looking for this for a long time. Watched in IMAX on the second day with 80% audience and was a fabulous experience.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga follows the backstory of Furiosa, played by Charlize Theron in the legendary Mad Max: Fury Road. Alyla Browne played the young character and Anya Taylor-Joy played the young Furiosa. I should the say that casting was excellent coz both looks 99% similar. Alyla delivered a wonderful performance as her eyes speaks throughout the movie and was totally conveyed. Anya's action sequences as well as the performances were aboslutely wonderful and eye-catchy.
Chris Hemworth totally excelled in his role as Dementus. He was breathtaking with his scintillating performance as brutal protagonist. Tom Burke who played Jack, the driver was also good with his performance.
The narration of the movie was absolutely fascinating proving that the veteran George Miller has still got the gasolene in his petrol tank. It was fast, edge of the seat narration which will give goosebumps in several scenes. Tom Holkenborg's background score was perfect stich to the narration. The climax of the movie was quite dramatic but from my point of view it was a perfect one.
When compared to Mad Max: Fury Road, Furiosa stays next to the latter. But considering the nature of the movie, Furiosa as the revenge action thriller, satisfied me as a whole
Watch it in theaters.
My rating 9 on 10.
Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil (2024)
Clean Entertainer
First of all I need to say that I've got what I expected!
A clean entertainer with full on slapstick comedy. The movie based on a wafer thin plot but overcame with the performances of the lead characters and the comedy. For me, the comedy was completely worked out.
Prithviraj delivered a decent performance where as Basil Joseph was with his typical acting, but the duo performed well all in all. Jeomon Jyothir was outstanding with his character, his dialogue delivery and acting was top-notch. Siju Sunny, Yogi Babu, Jagadeesh all did well. The heroines Anaswara and Nikhila Vimal doesn't have much to do. The camerawork was okayish. The songs and background score doesn't impress me much however K for Krishna was good.
Vipin Das's forth directorial venture after the extra ordinary Jaya Jaya Jaya He didn't go in vain. He excelled in creating the comedy sequences.
All in whole a clean entertainer where you can enjoy in theaters.
Rating 7.5 on 10.
Manjummel Boys (2024)
Survival Thriller that delivers to the best
In for the theater with high hopes coz of the exceptional reviews from around the world including my friends did not go in vain. Starts with a slow note introducing the Manjummel boys gang with fun and turns out in the later stage as a high voltage thrilling ride.
Based on the true story which I have read during my college days, Chidambaram did a fantastic job in making this film. Narration was absolutely high paced and was a gripping thriller. It is not so easy to portray an original incident in which the climax is predictable. But Chidambaram really made this as a gripping one. The protrayal of friendship was pretty good and gelled with the movie. Shyju Khalid's cinematography was captivating. The artwork - simply jaw dropping.
Regarding the performances, all cast delivered brilliant performances, especially Soubin Shahir, Deepak Parambol, Lal Jr, Balu Varghese and Sreenath Bhasi. Even though the background score was very familiar to me, but Sushin did a fantastic job in delivering the background score which was very apt to the scenarios. And the placing of Kanmani Anbodu song in the pre-climax was absolute brilliant.
Manjummel boys was a good theatrical experience and dont miss this in theaters.
A perfect movie for friendship.
Loved it.!!!!!
Ragnarok (2020)
When it takes a U-Turn with a drastic Ending
I really enjoyed this drama of the my favorite superhero Thor set in the amazing and beautiful backdrops of Norway was enjoyable since the 2nd season. Then it takes a U-turn in Season 3, with lazy script and execution and ends up drastically which leaves with so many unanswered questions. I am always fond of Mythology and the creators took the Norse Mythology brilliantly blended with the Modern Era was really appreciable. Ragnarok has their own plusses like the cinematography, action choreo, brilliant background score, good performing actors and an amazing story. But all hypes and watchable got thrashed in the third season and the finale.
Watchable.
The Village (2023)
Don't Go Near to this Village
Started with a good note but even with cliches it was watchable and when it progressed, the series proved that it is one of the worst in the recent times.
The whole village is poor in terms of writing, screenplay, direction, narration, acting, background score, crappy VFX all gelled to this fantastic show. Most of the scenes are written based on the old movies and it is full of cliches. No logic, no connection between the scenes. All you can see some vulgar action scenes.
In addition to that the performances of the lead actors are pale and doesn't convey much emotions.
I will not recommend anyone to watch this pathetic show.
Total Dud.
Chandramukhi 2 (2023)
If there is Zero, Then its Lit
What a wasted movie. I think Raghava Lawrence is so obsessed with the so-called horror movies. And i will not even call this crap as a horror movie rather i would call its a laugh riot. Kangana really wasted in this. Sometimes I was thinking like, was she the one acted in Gangster, Queen and Tanu series. She might have thought that shaking her abs is called acting as a dancer. Comedy, Horror, over the human kinda action, everything in this movie went down the drain. M. M. Keeravani shouldnt have signed this movie, he was pathetic. P. Vasu, should officially announce his retirement.
Only one word to describe this movie: BLLLLLAAAAAAAHHHHH.
Chaaver (2023)
Whatever you do, If there is no script, then its chaos
Having heard more negative reviews about the movie, we went in for the movie with much negative expectations, since it was booked in advance. Chaaver is a brutal story revolving around the party thugs who were betrayed after a planned murder by their higher political cadet.
Had much expectations about Tinu Pappachen because of his earlier outings were a feast in theaters. He didn't disappoint in terms of the shots, camera works, excitement, background score but was clueless to deliver a complete package because of the wafer thin plot.
The beauty of the Kannur was nicely captured with amazing visuals and more of an innovative cameraworks. The camera movement and placement needs an applause. Justin Varghese music and the performances of Kunchacko Boban, Arjun Ashokan, Manoj KU, Sajin Gopu and the extended cameo role of Antony Varghese were the saviour of the movie. Tinu should have cut down the runtime of 128 minutes to 90 or 90+ movie which would have been made this wafer thin plot more crispier. The last gun combat was absolute nonsence with more slow motion shots which was actually a waste of time and tiring.
Positives
- Cast and their performances
- Camera
- Music
- Visuals
Negatives
- Script
- Lengthy
- Slowmotion (during the climax gunfight)
- Tiring
My verdict is 04 on 10 and is avoidable in theaters.
If it comes to OTT, try x1.5 times which may entertain you.
Jawan (2023)
SRK & SRK - Swag & Style
Movie Marathon V. 10 #150
King of Bollywood - SRK, there is no doubt in that. He was riding on a flop vehicle for several years and he is back with mega optimus Pathan and now with Jawan. Directed by Bollywood debutante Atlee Kumar with Nayanthara as SRK's lead heroine has the story which is not fresh but a celebration for the fans.
Story revolves around the ex-military and his son who is trying to bring a change against the Indian System and thus waging a war against the notorious businessman. I would say that the story is a mashup of Tamil movies like Mersal, Anniyan, Katthi, Sardar and many more movies. Storywise it is a let down, Atlee should consider and concentrate only on direction but not with the story. But as a director he did a good work in presenting and exploiting SRK's WOW factor and swag. There are several WOW factors in the movie like the multiple introduction scenes of SRK and some action blocks. The interval block was total lit. The emotional scenes were the major negatives of the movie. It was boring and tiring.
SRK was the main attraction of Jawan, the dad character steals the show in his entry was pretty good. Nayanthara was charismatic in the first half but the screenspace in the second half was very rare. Vijay Sethupathi did a wonderful job as the Main Antagonist and delivers it with ease. All the supporting cast including Priyamani, Sania Malhotra and Deepika Padukone did justice to their role.
Anirudh Ravichander's solo debut was not so impressive. BGM in some parts especially SRK intros was pretty good but whole in all it was a letdown. It failed to elevate some electrifying scenes and the emotional scenes were total boring. All songs were like tamil songs, and songs which he has used during sentimental scenes were too boring. He should adapt himself to improve in his hindi song compositions.
Positives
- SRK
- Nayanthara
- Vijay Sethupathi
- Action Scenes
- Chase Scenes
- Dance with huge crowd backup (Atlee's special)
- BGM in some parts
- Narration
- Songs & BGM
- Story and Screenplay
- Emotional Scenes
- Emotional Connection with the movie
RDX: Robert Dony Xavier (2023)
RDX - An explosion of an Entertainer
RDX is a well established Action packed movie following the footsteps of Ajagajanthiram & Thallumala. Anbraivu's action is the major highlight of the movie with impeccable action scenes. Anthony Varghese, Neeraj Madhav & Shane Nigam, the male protagonists performed whole throughout the movie with slight upper hand by Neeraj & Shane. Background score & songs by Sam CS also helped the movie to be more interesting. The antagonists played by Vishnu Agasthya, Sandeep, etc delivered their finest performance and I will consider that as the backbone of the movie. Family sentiments and romance was perfectly fused with the high octane action. Cinematography by Alex. J. Pulickal was top notch. Editing by Chaman Chacko deserves a loud round of applause for making RDX a crispy explosive one.
The lady characters played by Mahima, Aimie, Mala Parvathi deserves special mention.
All in Whole, as the name denotes.. RDX is mass destruction Explosive.
Watch it in theaters for the amazing experience.
8.7 on 10 is my score.
Vadh (2022)
BRAVO!!!!
Vadh is a intense crime thriller written and directed by the debutantes Jaspal Singh Sandhu & Rajiv Barnwal.
The film starts with a slow note that it is family oriented movie where the old age struggling couples portrayed by Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta deserted by their NRI son portrayed by Diwakar Mishra but later on transforms to an intence thriller. The film initially walks in the shoes of the renowned Malayalam thriller Drishyam but delivers a good climax. Sanjay Mishra's performance is really superb and he is very convincing as the protagonist Shambhunath Mishra. Neena Gupta and Manav Vij delivers strong performances alongside Sanjay Mishra. Vadh makes intense and strong with their performances.
The story, screenplay and narration was good makes it an enjoyable film. I didn't feel any lag whole throughout. The background score was absolutely brilliant makes you glued to the seat. Gurcharan Singh serves the honours here.
All in whole, don't miss this thriller and you don't wanna miss the dignified performances of Sanjay Mishra and Neena Gupta.
8.5 on 10 is my score.
Oru Kodai Murder Mystery (2023)
Average Thriller saved by the Climax Twist
Oru Kodai Murder Mystery is a whodunnit series which is directed by Vishal Venkat based on Padmakumar Narasimhamoorthy.
A group of school students who are studying in a Kodaikanal school trying to expose the murderer of their school mate named Tara. Abhirami, Aishwarya, Aakash, John Jude Kennedy, Nakshatra, Namrita, Abitha Venkat, Nikhil Nair were the lead cast of the series.
Storywise is good, they used the template style of developing and narration was engaging at the same time laggy and sloggy. There were some good moments whole throughout but also major letdowns. The major pros of the series was the cast, the kids played really well and the climax twist was good. That saves the whole series. The dialogues in some places were so boring and usage of JUCK work was annoying whole throughout.
The main lead Aakash was convincing but the character development was sluggish and sometimes his performances were below par and affected the narration. Abhirami was convincing with her character as the Principal and mother of two kids. All the other kids in the series played really well and Abitha's performance shall be praised.
Cinematography looked nice and the scenes in Kodai's was captivating. Background score by Sudarshan M. Kumar was pretty good and was synced with the series.
All in whol, OKMM is an average thriller which engages you partly and will be forgotten in a flash of time.
My rating 5.5 on 10.
Mission Majnu (2023)
Engaging Spy Thriller
Mission Majnu is an espionage romantic thriller released in Netflix. The story revolves around the true events happened durint the 70s, where Pakistan was making a nuclear bomb secretly and the effort of Indian Spies to expose the secrecy.
This is a story of Amandeep Singh who is Tariq, a tailor in disguise falls in love with a local blind girl Nasreen and is assigned with a mission to find the Pakistan's secret nuclear facility thus to stop the process of making the bomb.
Even though the story is predictable, but the performances of the lead actors, the narration, taut screenplay and execution made this as a wonderful engaging movie. I really loved the performance of Siddharth Malhotra. He was totally gelled with that character. Kumud Mishra & Shabir Hashmi did a wonderful job where Rashmika Mandanna justified as her blind love interest/wife of the protagonist. Some scenes will water your eyes, thats for sure. Songs were nicely placed and was pretty good. But the background score was nice but could have been better. Cinematography was pretty good but not the best. There were some scenes where it loses the steam but all in whole the debutante Shantanu Bagchi didn't let me down, even he has to work in some parts, delivered an engaging espionage thriller.
Nope (2022)
Visually Promising Popcorn Flick
What do you call a miracle which is bad? Is there any specific word for that in English? If NOPE, is your answer, then this movie is for you.
Set in outer California, OJ and Em trying to solve the mystery behind a flying saucer which is acting as a predator in the region.
The movie starts with a slow note but keeps you engaged while it progresses. Unless the other movies of Jordan Peele, this has got nice comic moments. Nope is visual spectacle with brilliant vfx but is not so horrifying like his previous movies. The background score was pretty good and it elevates the whole theme of the movie.
Daniel Kaluuya & Keke Palmer delivered some great performance whole throughout and Steven Yeun, Brandon Perea & Michael Wincott were pretty good with their roles.
Nope is not too great but is a visually great like a popcorn movie but better than "US".
From my point of view Get Out > Nope > Us
7.8 on 10.
Pattathu Arasan (2022)
Cringe Fest To The Coee
I started watching this movie because of Atharvaa, who is selective in movies and delivered some good ones. But this one lacks, a solid story line, pathetic performances from the characters, dull songs (Ghibran is the music director), no thrills. Atharvaa was okay, but Raj Kiran as usual same level of acting as we have seen in his all movies. Watched in Netflix, yet am wondering why they cashed out for this pathetic movie. I didn't expect from A. Sarkunam who has delivered some mind blowing movies in his career like Kalavani and Vaagai Sooda Vaa. He should be improving his writing skills rather than coming out with a half baked movies.
Much avoidable movie
1.5 on 10.
Chopsticks (2019)
Well Made Feel Good Dramedy
Started watching with very low expectations, but turned to be a good dramedy. Mithila Palkar as the lead stole my entire heart with her cuteness, acting and her dialogue delivery. She was completely immersed in her character. Abhay Deol as the artist's character was not so convincing but overcame with his acting ability. Vijay Raaz, Arre Waah!!, though his screen presence were not lengthy but performed well whenever he has that chance. All the other actors who played the small character role did absolute justice. The background score and songs were good. Camerawork seems nice.
All in whole, lovely good hearted drama with plenty of laughs.
Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Visually Entertains but tires you big time
Being a fan of Avatar since that was an awesome experience even though the runtime was around 3 hours. I was dying to watch Avatar 2 in theaters and the wait was 13 long years.
Avatar 2 can be considered as visually extravagant with amazing scenes which will captivate you mainly the underwater sequences. But the 13 years they took for making this CGI masterpiece, they could have invested that in the plot. The story is wafer-thin, blatant, cringed and cliched. The dialogues were like "meh". The crux of the story is like a rehash of avatart. Adding to that, the movie is excessively long which will test your patience even though the scenes are alluring. The action scenes were okayish, there are lot more parts in which the continuity goes to the space. I think James Cameroon invested his major time and hard work into the technicalities and the other side went west. The another major letdown is the background score, which is not elevating a single scene in the movie.
Bottomline
A Visual treat overstretched boring movie.
Archive (2020)
Good AI Powered Sci-fi Drama
I would say that Archive is the most underrated movie among the sci-fi AI movies like Tau, Ex-Machina, etc. The whole acting crew led by Theo James, delivered a wonderful performance. Director Gavin Rothery's narration and execution was pretty good and the story was pretty intriguing. The twist in the end was a surprise (sometimes thought that its a forceful twist) and but was convincing. The graphics was good. The production quality was good and the location was mesmerizing. The background score was soothing and elevated the mood of the whole movie.
If you like watching Artificial Intelligence powered sci-fi, i would say, give it a go. You may end up liking the movie.
Black Adam (2022)
Fair Entertaineer in its own ways
Went in to the movie without much expectations and it delivered fairly okay. Black Adam is simple and straight forward. You don't need to follow the comic books for the backstory of Black Adam. Though its so predictable but was a fair entertainer. Dwayne Johnson seemed to be the perfect cast as Black Adam and he delivered it well. But, there is something missing from the movie whole total. Villain was not so powerful in terms of the depth of his character and the Marwan Kensari was okayish. Graphics was good but most of the scenes were like inspired from Marvels which was a total letdown. Action Choreography was outstanding. Comedy timing worked out really well. Another letdown of the movie was Lorne Balfe's background score, in fact it didn't leave any impact whole total (Except the closing score).
All in whole, a simple popcorn entertainer which is not so great.
Watchable.
7 on 10.
Ferry (2021)
Well Executed Crime Drama
Ferry is an amazing crime drama with the mixture of all emotional elements. The lead character Ferry played by Frank Lammers is an absolute delight to watch. His dialogue delivery, emotions portrayed and all worked out very well whole throughout the movie. The story is kind of predictable but Cecilia Verheyden's execution makes the movie a watchable and interesting one with brilliant performances from the lead characters makes this movie a unique one. The comedy track in this movie was blended pretty well and had good laughable moments. Cinematography worked pretty well. Background score was pretty good where it elevates the total mood of the movie.
Absolutely loved the movie.
Rorschach (2022)
Blistering Mammootty - Loved it
I would say, After some ages I have liked a Mammootty movie wholly. Mammootty as Luke Antony, a middle aged NRI delivered a blistering though a subtle performance. He was really rocking in his mannerisms, dialogue delivery and in action. The supporting actors Kottayam Naseer, Sharafuddeen, Grace Antony, Sanju Sivaram, the one and only Bindu Panicker and the actors who played the minute characters delivered scintillating performances.. Among all, Bindu Panicket was absolutely brilliant in here role.
The story is not new, a typical revenge oriented but served in a different plate in which the dialogues play a major part. Nisam Basheer excels in his execution, a slow paced thriller but the situation demands that pace. A Slow burner but was extremely effective. The story by Sameer Abdul demands a praise. Nimish Ravi's cinematography was perfect for Rorschach. The Background Score and songs by Midhun Mukundan, his Malayalam debut, did a fantastic work. A work to be cherished. He maintained the rhythm of the movie with the background score and the songs (all in english and lyrics was apt to the sequences, that was totally a good intention)
All in whole, a movie not to be missed in theaters.
Well made thriller which demands a theater watch.
Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022)
Don't trust the negative reviews - this is a visual extravaganza
Ayan Mukherji delivers a visual extravaganza with modern day story mixed with ancient mythology. The story is good with fast paced narration that will hold you to the seats for the whole time. The action scenes and vfx were top notch and is definitely an eye candy. Songs were good and hummable, background score elevated the scenes. Ranbir Kapoor the center core character delivered his performance at ease. Alia bhatt playing the pivotal role as his love interest did a good job. Some cringe scenes were there but was manageable. SRK, Nagarjuna's with their cameo roles was good. I should say Mouni Roy as the main villain delivered an impeccable performance. Amitabh Bachchan looked energetic even at this age.
All in whole a super heroic visual action packed treat is here waiting at the cinemas. Should be watched in cinemas otherwise you are gonna miss the fun.
Prey (2022)
Perfect Prequel
I have huge expectation in this predator movie and I must say that I am completely satisfied. Amber Mid thunder as the lead was outstanding with her performance. The captivating scenery of the Northern America was brilliantly portrayed. The story and screenplay as the sequel of all Predator movies was brilliantly written (i should say its fresh) with the depth of the main characters. Background score was good and was apt to the scenes. The combats with Predator was perfectly executed showing the drawbacks of first version of the Predator. And the weapons of Predator was also good. The action towards the climax scene was well executed and was extremely satisfying.
All in whole, a great predator movie.
