Potentially a very enjoyable show. Killer Cakes is a good concept and contestants created some horribly good cakes. Matthew Lillard as host was a good fit. His OTT style suited the show.
Could have done without the input from the special effects team. Didnt really see the value add with their contribution.
Would have preferred to spend more time on contestants. Didn't get to know them very well. Only 2 episodes was disappointing. Hopefully it leads to a longer format competition.
600 charamcter minimum is pointless. I don't need to include words for no reason and I have seen shorter reviews. Why??

If you love baking shows/cake competitions on food network or TLC and love Halloween/scary movies give this a watch. Is it perfect or as good as the big name shows out there? No. But it is unique and the cakes they make really are pretty dang cool.
I'm a horror fan and I love these type of shows on food network so this show is right my ally, but I still had a hard time getting into it. For starters, there really isn't much chemistry between the crew, especially with the horror effects experts that help the teams make their cakes. You could also tell they were reading scripts/cue cards at times which made some of the delivery really cringe. Also the show just feels too long. It seems like this was originally made for cable for an hour slot with a lot of ad breaks, but on Amazon 47 minutes is just too long. It should've been a crisp half hour max.
Now for the pros. Matthew Lillard hosts and he is 100% his usual self. He carries the same 80s/90s dude vibe energy from his movies so if you're a fan of his, you'll enjoy him being in character. If you aren't a fan or never heard of him, you may find it odd a 50 year old man sounds like a stoner. Danielle Harris was also a nice welcome as a judge. I liked her portrayal in various horror flicks be it when she first started in Halloween 4 or as the lead in the Hatchet movies. She makes a few references to the various films she's worked on when judging the cakes that helps make the show feel like an homage to horror fans. The other judge was also decent, but I'm not familiar with him so I can't really comment beyond he had some good critiques.
As for the cakes themselves: wow. The special effects these people create with cakes is just mind blowing. And some of the cakes just look downright nasty haha. If you don't care for how they make the cakes or what the contestants various back stories are, just fast forward past the first ad break and watch the final 15-20 minutes where they show off the cakes. They are truly amazing. It really is a shame there are only 2 episodes because I would've loved to have seen more themes done beyond just slasher/gore and paranormal.

I like the quirkiness of the hosts and the addition of the animatronics team to make the cakes come to life. It would be neat to see the team try to get those to work on their own as well. I also like the judge for his own creations that he makes. And everyone loves Matthew Lillard, so him as a host is funny and light and I think the small details from the crew were enjoyable. The cake artists were phenomenal. As far as the background for the hosts, there was a short clip of Matthew lillard, and then at least 4 or 5 of the other host which is mostly just provocative Halloween themed body shots which didn't seem relevant to the show, it felt like an ad to someone's Instagram. More movie scenes references instead and wholesome content would've been better.

Gory and horrifyingly amazing, but it felt like it was pretty much a tease. It's so good and it makes you want more episodes...I want more episodes. I love watching cake competitions especially Halloween ones. Horror is was I love. This show gives more gore and some special effects than other shows. The fake vomit, blood, with the special effects, on top of how realistic a lot of the cakes presented was just an amazing job the cake decorators did. Creepy and top quality cakes that sounded delicious. Best host and special guests. I just love it. Hoping they do more cuz this show I would continue watching.

The ONLY reason I rated this 9/10 stars is because I don't know if there will be more episodes & I want more.( its a mini series so probably not ) Big Fan of Matthew Lillard & Danielle Harris and now a fan of Nikk Alcaraz!
Matthew was an amazing funny host. Danielle and Nikk were very fair in their role as judges and looked like they enjoyed themselves. So jealous that they got to be there.
The two people who designed the effects were amazing as well who put in a lot of time to help the contestants make their work really pop!
The contestants worked hard to make their scary cake art have a terrifying design and effects. Very creative. I enjoyed watching this and wish/hope there will be more.
I do recommend giving this a go!
