The final day of The London Action Festival began with a screening of sci-fi/action classic Predator at Picturehouse Central. Once again, director John McTiernan took to the stage following the film for an extended, outspoken interview/Q&a session during which he discussed the production and his career.
McTiernan told the audience how, with Predator, he was “trying to make a film for a fourteen year old boy that was full of nonsense and looked heroic” yet he was inspired by European cinema, specifically films by Fellini and Bertolucci, as “most mainstream American directors were making action films using just master, medium and close-up shots”.
McTiernan recalled how terrible the original Predator design/suit looked was and how the process of designing and constructing a new one resulted in delays. McTiernan said he wanted to make the Predator look as authentic as possible. In order to achieve this, he recalled testing several special effects,...

Note: The following contains spoilers for “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers”
Chip and Dale may be the stars of the new Disney+ original film “Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers” but it’s another character entirely that seems to be stealing the show. Brace yourselves: Ugly Sonic has returned.
And no, that’s not us being judgmental — his name in this film actually is Ugly Sonic (and he’s voiced by “I Think You Should Leave” star/creator Tim Robinson). Of course, that name stems from the harsh criticism of fans. When the original CG Sonic was unveiled in the first trailer for “Sonic the Hedgehog” back in 2019, fans revolted — hard. The backlash was so intense that Paramount actually did go back to the drawing board to redesign the character that was voiced by Ben Schwartz.
But even though Ugly Sonic is gone, he clearly hasn’t been forgotten.

“Late Night” host Seth Meyers has addressed being called out by Jimmy Kimmel during the “Jimmy Kimmel Live” host’s monologue on Monday night.
As Kimmel returned to his ABC show following a bout with Covid, he used his monologue to name and shame all the people he claims didn’t contact him to send their well-wishes while he was out sick. One of them, Kimmel said, was the NBC star.
“I heard from a lot of my colleagues. I heard from Jimmy Fallon, Jon Stewart, James Corden all checked in. Stephen Colbert sent soup to my house. Seth Meyers, not a peep,” Kimmel claimed about the “Late Night” host, to laughs Monday night. “Nothing from Seth, nothing from George Stephanopoulos.”
But Meyers has since corrected the record. On Tuesday, he retweeted TheWrap’s writeup about Kimmel’s monologue with his response. “Colbert said he was sending the soup from both of us,...

Jimmy Kimmel tackled a wide range of current events during his monologue on Tuesday night’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” including Dr. Mehmet Oz’s run for Senate in Pennsylvania, a topic that has been popular among the late night hosts.
“Meanwhile, Oprah’s former protégé Dr. Oz is running for Senate in Pennsylvania where I guess he lives now. I don’t know,” Kimmel said, after transitioning from a segment mentioning the former daytime queen.
“The primary election is a week from today and Dr. Oz, who’s trying very hard to pretend to be a Maga Republican, wants everyone to know that he has a friend at Mar-a-Lago,” Kimmel continued.
The “Live!” host then cut to a mashup video of Oz touting his Trump endorsement across many, many media appearances.
“Yeah, that’s not something to be proud of, Dr. Oz,” Kimmel quipped.

Everything Everywhere All at Once describes Michelle Yeoh’s career right now. She is everywhere. As Emperor Philippa Georgiou in Star Trek: Discovery, she boldly went where no one has gone before with a role so scene-stealing that there’s talk of a spin-off dedicated just to her character. Yeoh also dominated as the powerful matriarch and ultimate “tiger mom” Eleanor Young in Crazy Rich Asians. And she’s one of the only actors to play two completely different characters in the MCU: Ying Nan in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Aleta Ogord in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. A24’s multiverse-spanning science fiction film Everything Everywhere All at Once is one more indication that Yeoh isn’t slowing down. Coming soon, she has lead roles in The Witcher: Blood Origin, American Born Chinese, and the four upcoming Avatar sequels.

Michael Strahan will continue to greet ABC morning viewers as part of a renewed pact that will keep him on “Good Morning America” for the next several years.
Strahan, who was named a “GMA” co-anchor in 2016 and placed alongside Robin Roberts and George Stephanopoulos, has signed a new four-year deal with ABC News, according to a person familiar with the matter. ABC News declined to make executives available for comment.
He extends his contract at a moment when TV’s a.m. news wars are starting to heat up anew. CBS News has retooled its morning program, enlisting former football player Nate Burleson to anchor “CBS Mornings” with Gayle King and Tony Dokoupil in a new Times Square studio not too far away from the one used by “GMA.” NBC News has been working to make its venerable “Today” available to a wider audience with a new slate of streaming-video...

Fox News’ 11 p.m. Et “Gutfeld!” finally beat every other late-night show — including Stephen Colbert’s “Late Show” on CBS — Tuesday in total viewership and the advertiser-coveted age demographic of 25 to 54. When the right-leaning program debuted in April, host Greg Gutfeld and his promotional team made no secret of their ambition to overtake late-night rivals, but Colbert blocked him from the top spot.
On Tuesday night, “Gutfeld!” took in a total average of 2.120 million viewers, with 434,000 in the key demo, on average. The “Late Show,” which has an 11:35 p.m. Et start time on CBS, grabbed an average of 1.896 million total viewers of whom 423,000 were in the demo. In the 18-to-49 demo, however, Colbert still won, averaging 322,000 viewers to Gutfeld’s 281,000 and Fallon’s...

And we told him that we were proud that is he is one of us as well,” Trudeau said. Pablo Picasso was apparently supposed to have said “good artists copy, great artists steal”. In the world of transnational cinema this is especially true when we see re-imaginings (to use the modern parlance) of particular films. With Luc Besson’s “La Femme Nikita”, the original “inspired” an incredibly dull American remake, TV series and inevitably an unofficial Hong Kong take from D&b Films. It would be hard pressed to argue that they were great artists and Stephen Shin would hardly be considered a visual stylist as Luc Besson in his prime. Yet this is more than just a facsimile copy and does have merit in it’s own right.

Barack Obama, promoting his new memoir Promised Land on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, addressed the current situation with his successor, Donald Trump, who so far has refused to recognize Joe Biden as the president-elect.
The 44th president primarily treated Trump’s intransigence lightly, quipping to Kimmel that “there seems to be some lag — the communications system [at the White House] used to be better.”
Kimmel asked Obama if there were “places where people could hide” in the White House, like some cubby hole, suggesting that Trump would try to do that come January 20.
“I think we can always send the Navy SEALs in there to dig him out,” Obama joked.
It is not entirely far-fetched. Trump ceases to be president at noon on January 20, and technically would be trespassing if he remains in the Oval Office.
Kimmel also asked Obama about Trump’s retweet of a QAnon conspiracy theory that Osama bin Laden is still alive.

Michael Keaton hasn’t donned the cape and cowl for 28 years, but he’s about to once again in the upcoming Flash movie. DC has big plans for this one, too, with Ezra Miller’s Scarlet Speedster set to tear through the multiverse in his initial solo outing.
The first big returning name attached to the project was Keaton, who was announced to be involved in the summer. And for the first time since then, the star has now addressed his comeback. While speaking on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the host pressed Keaton on whether he could officially confirm that he was returning as Batman. As a superhero movie vet by now, the Spider-Man: Homecoming actor knew better than to let anything slip, so he kept his response brief.
“I can’t confirm anything,” Keaton replied when asked. He then had a bit of fun back-and-forth with Kimmel, asking if the...

Ever since first gaining mainstream attention thanks to a breakout role in Christopher Nolan’s Inception, Tom Hardy has gone on to establish himself as one of the most reliable actors in the business, known for dedicating himself entirely to his roles and rarely giving a bad performance.
Over the years, the 42-year old has earned comparisons to The Dark Knight Rises co-star Christian Bale, mainly due to the similarities in their meticulous preparations for every movie they make, and the fact that a lot of people aren’t entirely sure what their natural accents are when they’re away from the big screen.
