A Christmas Carol (1999)
It holds up
Most movies based off a book fail to match the magic of the original book but this, mostly does.
Yes, the plot doesn't feature enough of sad boy Scrooge and also, where the hell is the bit where Scrooge's ex is with her family and Scrooge is sad that he has no children? That aside though, everything is done well and the alterations are subtle and make perfect sense given the movie was made 157 years after the book.
The acting (especially from Patrick Stewart in the second half and Richard E. Grant in general) was phenomenal and for its time, the cinematography was great as much as it has aged poorly. It is hugely entertaining and makes its runtime fly by and the ending is very well done, so yeah, this is a great adaptation of a classic novella.
The Adjustment Bureau (2011)
This is the only thing to have ever helped me understand religion.
A film made to raise questions does that well, (as some of the unanswered questions of this film bug me a lot admittedly) and it explains religion really well. Still, there are still contradictions but it is as understandable as you can probably get it to someone who thinks it's bollocks.
The plot has its unsanswered questions and flaws but the overall gist is so intriguing and brilliant that it is still great. Why tf does Elise not give up on him despite all of the trials and tribulations? What made Harry help David? Is David a maniac? What's so cool about him holding a shoe?
The pacing is fine but the sudden jumps in time without anything changing seems a bit fishy and some are so subdued that you don't even realise they exist despite them being pretty important.
Acting wise, the chemistry between Matt Damon and Emily Blunt is so high that it just seems casual: there is nothing forced and it is just phenomenal to watch. I don't sense much wrong with it at all.
Cinematography is great, the ending is beautiful and overall, as much as I have gripes, it tackles huge themes phenomenally and is a film I won't forget anytime soon.
Lingo (2021)
Pretty good.
I could imagine Stephen mulhern hosting this and the show being amazing, but we have Adil Ray who unfortunately wasn't able to show his comedic abilities in this and was a bit boring. Hate to admit it. Although considering schools were shut whilst this aired this was a useful tool as an English lesson for teaching children new vocabulary while being fun too, for them at least. I know enough but I don't express it here haha.
Overall, a really good show but it could've been better. AND ALSO ITS SO ANNOYING WHEN THE WORD POPS UP AND YOU DONT GET IT BECAUSE ITS ALWAYS EXTREMELY OBVIOUS. Happened to me tonnes and I needed to express my anger about that haha.
Game of Talents UK (2021)
Some of you are mental...
3.6/10? Are you all thick? This show isn't amazing of course it isn't but it certainly isn't and at all! Game shows are dwindling in decency so you can't have high expectations anymore! It isn't the same. This is actually ok. Although some talents aren't really talents and some are disturbing. Should put a warning for scenes you may find disturbing and traumatising on some episodes! There was one with an escapologist for Christ sake!
I Can See Your Voice: UK (2021)
Are people deluded?
This is rated 4.2 as I write this and bank balance is rated 4.3 when that was utter cow muck.
This show can actually have good banter between the celebs despite it being judgemental. It's enjoyable and whilst it's just a guilty pleasure, it's a good one.
Gillette Soccer Saturday (1997)
A bunch of middle aged men and women, love it!
Gotta love a bit of Merse and of course Jeff. When they are on form, they are funnier than Thogdad! And he can be funny! And also just Chris Kamara. And of course there's Bianca Westwood who can be decent. And nobody cares about the others.
Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway (2002)
If wim the ads was its own show, I'd watch that over in for a penny.
I love some of the skits, although I'm not a fan of Ant vs Dec or the stuff like Double Trouble (although I did admittedly like Who Shot Simon Cowell?) and yeah some of it is boring, but some of it is decent, but I'm sick of how stupid the costumes they out Stephen in are. Also, there are little touches in the end credits sometimes.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (1998)
Bit of a dilemma.
Part of me thinks this is legendary, but part of me would hope for more winners, but that makes it more legendary. I just don't know, but what I do now is that this show is amazing. ITV definitely did a good job snapping Jezza when BBC axed him. (Jeremy Clarkson not Jeremy Kyle obviously). :)
Tipping Point (2012)
Boring and needs to be replaced.
Why not out Winning Combination or Lingo in there, more popular nowadays and also, better in my opinion. The format is boring, the host is annoying and the show needs to be replaced. Still better than bank balance, but what isn't?
Beat the Chasers (2020)
Better than the original?
Well I enjoy it more but in some ways it isn't. Although I love it a bunch and you can get through a lot of contestants instead of having the same team or contestants competing, which is quite unique. You get through a contestant in about 10 to 15 minutes, which can help if you need something to do and watch a bit of a game show beforehand and want it to feel complete.
The Chase (2009)
Perfect.. and not perfect.
The show is perfect but the knew COVID measures make the stage look all extended and thicc and weird. Bit like when you move a picture to make it fill the page not by using it diagonal and it looks weird. Hard to explain but apart from that, amazing show!
Richard Osman's House of Games (2017)
Grows on you.
Used to hate it. Now I love it. The questions are difficult and it's fun to see the banter and to see celebrities act like.... people.
The Wheel (2020)
Like it!
Could of a bit faster, but apart from that, it's great. The host can be funny (unpopular opinion) and it's a fun show to tune in to. Granted, it is a bit cheesy.
Bank Balance (2021)
Not as bad as some people say it is.
The tv show is still awful, but a 1 is a bit much. It can be unbearably painful to watch with morons on it, but overall it's not toobad.
Two Weeks Notice (2002)
Enjoyable... mostly.
I will admit some parts were straight up uncomfortable to watch, but the rest of the film is solid enough. Also, there is a Trump cameo.
Stuart Little (1999)
Amazing film!
This film is family, but it can appeal to an adult audience as there is a bit of humour that kids let's just say... will not understand. I haven't seen the 2 sequels but all I can say is that this film is... fantastic. Don't get why some don't like it.
Getting Sketchy (2021)
ITS TOO BLOODY LONG
The films funny, I enjoy the gags. However, there's no plot and some jokes and attempts at making a plot feel half-arsed. There's loads of potential and you can tell where the movie is trying to go but the ending really doesn't make much sense and there is too much filler. Less is more. Nothing wrong with a shorter film.
