I was skeptical that the series could compare to the original movie, one of my very favorite films. The series is very good, great performances by both Eddie and Lashana. I disagree with the criticisms of her performance. She does well. Perhaps viewers are critical of her character, hardnosed and determined, sometimes questionable, rather than her acting, which is fine. The Jackal, of course , is an amoral killer, added with the complication of a wife and child, which actually doesn't detract from the story. Very surprised at the excellent series, compelling to continue watching, a rarity in the mediocre usual pablum viewers are usually offered these days.
I'm only 10 minutes into this film, so i'm not commenting on the plot, though i've read lots of the reviews here. My comment primarily has to do with the absolute worship exhibited by teens and preteens for a mediocre singer. I realize such events exist in reality, but it seems so misguided, forced. All the screaming. What exactly are they worshipping? Peer pressure, social media, maybe, probably, but a parent should try to guide their children to discern what is influencing them. (Yes, i'm old enough to remember the screaming insanity for Elvis and the Beatles, so perhaps this is the same.)
I have always liked Josh Hartnet, also M. Night Shyamalan. But this is a nepotism project for Shyamalan's daughter. Disappointing.

I read the book Serpentine by Thomas Thompson years ago. The book is riveting, hard to read because of the crimes of Sobhraj. I started rereading it recently and couldn't continue, somehow even more horrifying. Then, Netflix produced this series. It is excellent. I watched the series in its entirety, then a year later decided to watch again. Like with the book, the crimes are so horrifying, i couldn't continue watching. Not sure why each second exposure to the crimes of Sobhraj were more horrifying the second time viewing and reading, both the series and the book. Probably because i knew what was to come. I do recommend the Netflix series for those who haven't seen it, but it is not for the faint of heart. It is now my understanding that Sobhraj is free. Travesty of justice for the monster.
