Hoss turns to Judith Coleman, who is gifted with clairvoyance, to use her talent in order to find Jamie, who is hurt and lost in the high country. Judith’s fiancé, who is a minister, objects to her using her skills.

A new General Store is invaded by outlaws who begin to tunnel across to the Railroad Baggage Depot, which is storing gold. The Barkley Family soon visits the store and are held captive by the outlaws.

Jess Harper rides into Laramie, Wyoming, searching for the man who stole his money, Pete Morgan. The sheriff shoots at Jess thinking he’s part of a gang. Later, Slim Sherman finds Jess on his land and wants to kick him off, but a friendship develops.

Lucas and Mark find a young couple in a wagon who are suffering from a fever. Lucas takes them to his ranch where a doctor confirms it to be yellow fever. No-good Brett Conway spreads the word in North Fork and panic sets in.

Lucas and Mark travel through the desert to get a supply of salt when a rattlesnake spooks their horses, causing the wagon to overturn. A horse must be put down due to injury and Lucas is also badly hurt. Mark has no choice but to go for help alone.

Lucas agrees to ride shotgun on a stagecoach carrying $20,000 in gold for North Fork banker John Hamilton after a man fails to show up. When three men rob the stage and take Mark hostage, Lucas must get both the gold and Mark back safely.

A new doctor comes to town promising lower doctor’s fees and miracle cures. Angered by the doctor’s false claims, Doc goes missing. After Matt Dillon finds him, Doc’s beliefs are proven to be true after a young boy almost dies.

Special agent Jim Hardie is in a Fork City Wells Fargo Office when Jess Evans arrives with prisoner Bill Longley and asks for the reward. Both trick Hardie, but Longley later helps Hardie catch Evans and get back the money.

It’s a series of mishaps when Buck tries to find and return the missing husband of an old girlfriend. First, Buck is overpowered by a gang while searching for his man. When Buck finally finds the man, he refuses to return to his wife.

Oldtimer Benjamin Burns travels on the wagon train with his daughter and her fiancé. When Major Adams finds two dried-up watering holes, he tells Adams about Shining Water, an area close by. Their efforts to find it bring danger to everyone.

Jess shoots outlaw Sam Logan during a stagecoach holdup. Logan arrives at Rev. John Holby’s home mortally wounded and asks Holby to take the bounty money on his head and build a church. Gang members have other ideas.

Marshal Matt Dillon finds a woman named Lettie and her baby in a cave. He learns that Lettie’s parents abandoned her after she was attacked and became pregnant. Matt, Kitty, and others help find the baby a home.

A band of ex-confederate soldiers go to the Ponderosa and demand money from Ben. Hoss tries to fight them and gets shot and is critically wounded by the group’s leader, Shanklin.

While in Mexico tending to a Barkley mine, Heath aids a Mexican General who has escaped an oppressive leader. When it is found that the General is now living at the Barkley Ranch, Heath is jailed and his life used to bargain for the General's return.

A stagecoach arrives in Laramie and Jess is surprised to see Laurel DeWalt, who was once an old flame. She is leaving her husband and asks Jess to take her to Mexico. However, her husband has hired three men to follow and bring her back home.

Slim’s Army friend, Whit Malone, comes to the Sherman Ranch. He invites Slim and Andy to go fishing on his ranch, but Slim has too much to do. Malone later admits he aims to assassinate General Sherman at their relay station.

Mark overhears men plotting to rob the North Fork Bank while at a surveying camp and tells Lucas about what he heard. When Lucas questions his story, Mark runs away from home. Lucas later learns Mark was telling the truth and helps capture the men.

A famous buffalo hunter, Cass Callicot, arrives in North Fork and challenges Lucas to a shooting match to prove who’s best with a rifle. Lucas refuses the match, but Callicot won’t take no for an answer. He kidnaps Mark to force the issue.

Isabel Dent has been writing to John Jupiter and they decide to marry even though they have never met. When Jupiter arrives in North Fork, he is made fun of, threatened, and later beaten by the Profit brothers who want the property owned by Isabel.

Aaron Wingate lost his wife and son in a river boat fire years ago. The boy was never found. Wingate hires two private detectives who come to North Fork and decide that Mark will fit the bill. Lucas must fight for custody.

Guest Stars Robert Culp and Leonard Nimoy. Jethro Creech and his daughter Ruth join the wagon train. Baylor Crofoot, the wagon train schoolteacher, shows an interest in Ruth. Problems arise as Creech despises cowards and sees Crofoot as one.

Flint guides a wagon train party with Otto Burger and his followers to the edge of a swamp. Bear, a friendly Indian chief, warns the group to avoid the area due to an evil swamp creature. As they move through, strange noises occur.

Chester leaves his job with Matt Dillon in order to start working on a homestead for his betrothed, Daisy. However, the soil is terrible and the shack he builds collapses. He finds out that Daisy has taken all the money and left town.

Steve Prescott, son of wealthy rancher Vic Prescott, is hurt in a wagon accident. Dr. Samuel Mudd, waiting on a stage at the Sherman Ranch, operates and amputates Steve’s left arm. Steve’s father is angry; he views Mudd as a traitor from the past.

Jim Hardie gets word from a sheriff that there is a disruptive passenger on board a Wells Fargo stagecoach. It turns out the passenger is John L. Sullivan, a well-known boxer, who is vying for the boxing world championship.

Special agent Jim Hardie becomes involved with Wells Fargo agent Nora Washburn. Her brother, Tom Washburn, is engaged to the daughter of former outlaw Jonas Coe. Complications arise when Nora disagrees with the engagement.

Two buffalo skinners who work for Jim Gatluf are suddenly murdered. Matt Dillon begins to realize that Gatluf is trying to get out of paying wages to his hired help and needs to be stopped before he strikes again.

Gunslinger Kin Creed comes to Dodge City bent on challenging Matt Dillon to a gunfight in order to gain notoriety by outdrawing him. Creed goes to great lengths to antagonize Matt into confronting him, even murder.
