Mistlands

The Valheim Mistlands biome has existed since release, but has now been completed with mobs, structures, and resources in the Mistlands update on Dec 6, 2022. Read on to find out how to get to the Mistlands, and what awaits you there.

How to Get to the Mistlands

Play

These dangerous, mysterious lands can be found in any Valheim world, but the Mistlands update changed the map generation to make them more common. Therefore, consider generating a new map in order to find the Mistlands more easily.

The Mistlands biome is designed to succeed the Plains biome in terms of progression and difficulty. If you haven't defeated Yagluth, you'll find it difficult to navigate the Mistlands.

The Mistlands seem to always generate at a set minimum distance from spawn, meaning you'll likely have to travel quite far in order to find them.

Mistlands biome map appearance

The Mistlands has very low visibility; if you're wondering how to see a little better, here's how it's done:

To see through the mist in the Mistlands, you'll need a Wisplight. This is obtained by using the Torn Spirit dropped by Yagluth to craft a Wisp Fountain. Place the Wisp Fountain to attract Wisps, which drop the item you'll need to craft a Wisplight. Equip the Wisplight and a Wisp will fly around you, clearing the mist away.

All Points of Interest in the Valheim Mistlands Biome

The Mistlands form a rocky, misty, and uninviting landscape, but it's also quite varied. After a bit of exploring, you may find the following building types:

Dvergr Settlements

They can appear in different shapes and sizes, but usually consist of a tower (as shown in the picture below) or an excavation camp. Dvergr settlements aren't dangerous places if you don't attack the Dvergr or steal from them. If you do, however, they will fight you. Beware that it's necessary for your Valheim progression to (eventually) steal from the Dvergr, as some of the crates found inside Dvergr settlements contain the Dvergr Extractor needed to create a Sap Extractor.

Infested Mines

These are the Mistlands dungeons, similar to Troll caves in the Black Forest, Sunken Crypts in the Swamp, or Frost Caves in the Mountains. Clearing Infested Mines is extremely important, as they contain three essential Mistlands items: royal jelly (used in Eitr foods), Black Core (used to craft the Galdr Table, Black Forge, and Eitr Refinery), and Sealbreaker Fragments, which are used to summon the Mistlands boss. The Infested Mines look similar to Dvergr Settlements, but beware that they're guarded by Seekers. To find the loot, go down the winding staircase.
