They should be ready for a grind like its an rpg but because of that you play in such a way that you are the storyteller and your friends are the NPC's. I played this game first back maybe just like a few months after it originally came out and I can tell you this game has improved in almost every way it should have :) Not to mention that... Its coming out of early access very soon along with the deep north update! This game is ofc great with friends but they need to be as dedicated as you are or you will end up like me with 600 hours, not spent in one world but on multiple world XD. If you like light grind (which you can toggle how hard you grind btw) and like bosses and exploring this OpenWorld Survival Sandbox is a BIG must! Why not give 10/10 then?.... No ladders... lol
