Coloradans You Should Know: Professor Inga Allison who is credited with inventing high-altitude baking. She worked at Colorado State University from 1908 to 1945 and created The Altitude Laboratory, which took a scientific approach to baking. This week, students across Colorado got a taste of life after school through hands-experiences in career fields: 🚄 Students at the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind learned about transportation through Metro Mobility and took a trip to Denver to practice riding RTD's Light Rail as a part of the Bridges to Life transition program to help students connect with the community and encourage independent living; 🛠️ 8th graders from Northglenn Middle School in Adams 12 Five Star Schools had an awesome opportunity to visit the Bollman FutureForward building to explore exciting career pathways; 🚗 Cherry Creek Innovation Campus students from Cherry Creek School District participated in the first-ever EAS Tire & Auto Professional Technician Skills Competition, gaining real-world experience and insight into what it takes to succeed in the automotive industry; and ✂️ Juniors and seniors from Genoa-Hugo High School in Genoa-Hugo School District C-113 explored tech programs like Northwest Cosmetology, Medical Assistant, Diesel Tech, and Automotive Tech at Fort Hays.

Closing our our celebration of National School Psychology Week, meet Joanna Barker, a school psychologist and human trafficking prevention specialist at Denver Public Schools. She has been working as a school psychologist for 16 years and is the proud mom of two DPS students. Throughout her career there have been two areas she found significantly rewarding: supporting graduate students in their own learning path and student safety prevention practices. Thank you to Joanna and all of the other school psychologists across Colorado who support students every day!

Last week, students from Campo School District and Vilas School District RE-5 visited Boulder to explore future career paths. They met with @johnweiss, founder and CEO of @human-design Marketing Agency, to discuss potential careers in marketing, design, and business. Students were able to ask questions, get real-life advice, and hear from a working professional first hand. This hands-on experience are essential for students to explore options for life after school.
