Connecting People, Places, and Wildlife 🦌 Caltrans is proud to collaborate with 𝗣𝗮𝘁𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 on the 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝟭𝟮 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗹𝗶𝗳𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 in Sonoma County, alongside partners Sonoma Land Trust and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Caltrans staff recently joined Pathways for Wildlife in the field to learn about wildlife tracking, camera setups, and data collection methods that support safe passage for wildlife and drivers. We are grateful to the Pathways for Wildlife team for sharing their expertise in identifying, documenting, and interpreting wildlife movement data, skills that strengthen our ongoing and future connectivity studies. “This work is an excellent professional development opportunity for Caltrans staff to learn from experts who work across the state, such as Tanya Diamond and Ahiga Snyder of Pathways for Wildlife,” said Chris Pincetich, Caltrans Branch Chief, North Counties, Office of Environmental Analysis. “The passage of AB 2344 requires Caltrans to complete wildlife connectivity studies for certain projects, and partnerships like this one ensure we’re ready to meet that need.” Caltrans values the dedication of its partners in advancing safe, sustainable, and connected transportation solutions while protecting California’s ecosystems. 📸 Photos: Caltrans and Pathways for Wildlife teams in the field, identifying wildlife tracks and feathers, and setting up camera stations to monitor wildlife near structures and approaching the highway. • Caltrans was proud to participate in the first native planting, marking another major milestone for the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing in Agoura Hills. 🌿 Thousands of native plants installed – including California aster, purple sage, narrowleaf milkweed, hoaryleaf ceanothus, bush sunflowers, and coast live oak – across the bridge and the surrounding 13-acre site. 🐾 Supporting wildlife habitats – helping mountain lions, bobcats, deer, foxes, and other species move safely while also supporting pollinators like monarch butterflies. 🌱 Locally grown plants – over 1.1 million seeds from more than 50 plant varieties were collected within five miles of the site since 2021. 💧 Sustainable design – integrated irrigation systems help plants thrive while reducing fire risk. 🤝 Collaboration at its best – a coalition including the National Park Service, Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy, Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, National Wildlife Federation, SAMO Fund, and Rock Design Associates LLC made this possible. 🌏 Follow the progress in real time through a dedicated webcam and learn more about the Save LA Cougar #P22Legacy Campaign: https://lnkd.in/gAsd6rPB This project demonstrates how infrastructure and environmental stewardship can work hand in hand to protect local wildlife and restore natural habitats for generations to come. #Caltrans #WildlifeCrossing #NativePlants #HabitatRestoration #SustainableInfrastructure #CommunityPartnerships Beth Pratt

  • October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! 🚶♀️🚶♂️ At Caltrans, safety is at the heart of everything we do, whether you're walking through your neighborhood or navigating near a construction zone. As we improve and maintain California’s roads, we’re asking everyone to stay alert no matter where you go. Pedestrians, drivers, and workers all share the road. Remember to: 🔶 Be Work Zone Alert: construction areas often mean changing walkways and traffic patterns. 🔶 Stay visible and avoid distractions: especially near active roadwork or reduced-visibility areas. 🔶 Slow for the Cone Zone: reduce speeds and give space in work zones to protect both workers and nearby pedestrians. Together, we can create safer streets for everyone. Let’s make every step and every drive a safer one. 🚧❤️ #NationalPedestrianSafetyMonth #PedestrianSafety #Caltrans #SlowForTheConeZone #WorkZoneAlert #SafetyFirst #CaltransCulture
