Thank you Molly Chidester and the Morgan Health team for this valuable new research. It underscores what we see at Oula: the demand for midwifery care is there, the proven outcomes are there, and now we need to work to increase access. I’m optimistic that data like this will encourage more and more hospital systems to integrate midwifery care into their services. We're proud to partner with forward-leaning organizations like Mount Sinai and Stamford Health, who are not only recognizing the demand for midwifery-led care but actively investing in new ways to meet it. The opportunity ahead, to reimagine how maternity care is delivered, has never been clearer.
Check out the latest research from Morgan Health! 👇 This report highlights what 2,500 birthing individuals across the U.S. are telling us about their birthing experience -- 66% of individuals not using a midwife today are interested in doing so during a future pregnancy. Lack of clarity about insurance coverage, unanswered questions about midwifery care, and challenges navigating the health care system are top barriers to doing so. In many other countries, midwifery care - shown to save lives and costs - is standard. Yet in the U.S. only 1 in 5 individuals on employer-sponsored insurance had a midwife as a part of their care team. Companies like Oula (Adrianne Nickerson, Elaine Purcell), Pomelo Care (Shyamali Choudhury), Diana Health and birthFUND (Elaine Welteroth Erin Coles) are looking to change that and expand access to midwifery-led care teams. Proud of our team for bringing data to the conversation and excited about how we can partner to take action!
