Venture Atlanta Conference is in full swing, and it’s once again living up to the hype! With over 1,600 attendees, it's been fantastic reconnecting with friends and collaborators. Highlights so far: - The Overline Venture Atlanta Pickleball Experience made a triumphant return, with 80 investors battling it out on the courts. A big thank you to Max Ade and the Pickleheads team for helping make this event such a success! - I was thrilled to watch four of our portfolio founders deliver outstanding presentations on the main stage yesterday. 🎉 Huge congratulations to PadSplit on another incredible milestone! This week, the company announced that they've reached 15,000 rooms on their co-living platform! I first met founder Atticus LeBlanc in 2018 during Mentor Madness at Cox Enterprises Techstars Atlanta—the last year my friend and partner, Michael Cohn, managed the program. Back then, PadSplit had just a handful of beds and limited tech. Meeting Atticus, I instantly understood why Michael held him in such high regard—his deep understanding of the affordable housing crisis and his passion for creating change were truly inspiring. Honestly, my initial focus was on the operational hurdles of scaling a platform like this… aligning private capital for systemic change felt daunting, and I was skeptical. But over time, I became a BIG believer. Seeing PadSplit's growth and impact over the years has been nothing short of remarkable. To think that 15,000 people stayed in a safe, affordable PadSplit room last night—what an achievement! PadSplit exemplifies capitalism done right. Property owners earn twice what they would from renting a single-family home, while residents enjoy a safe, all-inclusive living space at a cost significantly lower than the average one-bedroom apartment in their community. PadSplit’s mission is to solve one of our country’s most pressing challenges, one room at a time. My favorite picture this week is from the first Overline founder event in #Nashville, hosted by our incredible venture scout, Zap ⚡️ Michael Cohn and I had the pleasure of spending the evening with our portfolio founder and guest speaker, Matthew Peltier, along with dozens of talented builders making it happen in Music City. Matt shared his inspiring founder journey and offered invaluable insights on fundraising, having raised significant $$$ for his previous startup before securing pre-seed funding for his new stealth venture. One of the standout moments was when Matt reminded founders in the room that fundraising isn’t the milestone — “it’s the oxygen we need to breathe, but not our purpose for living.” (Amen to that!) He also emphasized the importance of getting investors to “see the world as you do” and encouraged founders to remain “constantly optimistic yet rational.” Another crucial takeaway was to avoid letting valuation be the sole reason investors say no in the early stages. Exciting news, I'm now a venture scout for Overline! 💥 For the past few months, I've been regularly sharing deals with investors outside of Nashville to help get companies here funded. Overline has been consistently eager to be on the ground floor of what's happening here. Sean O'Brien and Michael Cohn have always been big believers in southeast startups and they've already invested into 3 startups in Nashville. I'm stoked to continue finding great founders and get more of them backed by Overline. And show them all of our great Nashville monuments like the Parthenon LOL. They're also super friendly investors who run one of the coolest events- a VC pickleball tournament at Venture Atlanta. I'm looking forward to showing off my visor collection this year.
