Our mission is to provide working poor families as well as homeless men, women, and children of all ages with the inner resources and tools to become productive, stable and self- supporting members of the community. St. Joseph Center has been meeting the needs of low-income and homeless individuals and families since 1976. Today, our programs reach more than 10,000 people annually across Los Angeles County. The Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that serves those in need without regard for religious affiliation or lack thereof. Comprehensive case management, mental health, and integrated social service programs are carried out at multiple sites in Los Angeles County, with major service centers located on the Westside and in South LA. St. Joseph Center provides clients with concentrated and coordinated access to a range of services according to the nature of their needs. Our current efforts cover: •Outreach & Engagement: Street-based multidisciplinary teams, walk-in centers, and food assistance service help homeless and low-income men, women, and children access housing and other resources that lead to self-sufficiency. •Housing: Permanent Supportive Housing and Rapid Re-Housing services assist homeless families and individuals to obtain and maintain housing stability. •Mental Health: Therapy and other forms of support help clients impacted by mental health issues lead fuller, more independent lives. •Education & Vocational Training: Job programs and educational efforts equip adults and children with the knowledge and tools to make progress in the workplace and in life.

  • The latest report from six L.A. County homeless service providers shows that while progress has been made, we are at a crossroads. As St. Joseph Center CEO, Dr. Ryan Smith, shared with Calo News, "We are excited about the decrease in homelessness…yet tectonic changes are happening in the homeless service sector." Historic funding cuts and ongoing economic headwinds are threatening to reverse the progress we've worked so hard to achieve. We are already seeing layoffs across the sector. In the words of Dr. Smith, "To sustain decreases in homelessness, you have to fund the folks who are doing the work." We see progress when we allocate resources with our values. This is a critical time to advocate for sustainable funding to ensure that our neighbors continue to have access to life-saving services. • For a drug treatment facility, the kitchen here at Beit T’Shuvah ain’t too shabby. We have almost everything you’d want in a commercial kitchen, minus a flattop or air fryer. But maybe that’s not the worst thing—otherwise, I’d have residents banging at my door trying to fry everything from Oreos to bagels, with all the mess and cleanup that requires. After facing severe mental illness and a cycle of incarceration due to unstable housing, Oshay is now on a new positive path. Through the collaborative efforts of our team at St. Joseph Center and our partners at ODR (Office of Diversion and Reentry), she secured permanent housing and stable employment. Her journey is a testament to how compassion, comprehensive support, and housing are crucial to helping those experiencing homelessness.
