There are moments in your career when you stop and think:
"Holy sh*t. I made it."
I remember getting my first proper job out of university: a Microsoft Australia internship. They handed me a brick-sized laptop and I remember thinking, this is it. I made it.
Thank you to
Catherine Vissiere and
Steven Miller for taking a chance on me.
A year later,
Oscar Trimboli took me under his wing and suddenly I was helping project manage the 2008 Wave launch.
Then came what felt like an impossible dream. Through hustle, luck, and the generosity of others, I managed to leave Australia and move halfway across the world to Toronto.
Stepping onto Canadian soil at 24 years old, I thought:
"Holy moly. I made it."
Thank you,
Tara Powadiuk, for taking a chance on a young girl with big dreams.
Four years later came another leap. With the sponsorship of Cheri Chevalier and what felt like a wildly ambitious decision by
Christian Frei, I joined the Western Europe CMO HQ team.
I was completely out of my depth, but I had achieved my dream of living and working in Europe.
"I made it."
Then came World Wide Learning, where
India McGill had an enormous influence on me despite never being my direct manager. It's where I learned the power of investing in people.
A few years later, I was unexpectedly riffed.
Instead,
Nathan Weyer welcomed me into the Philips Experience Design family, allowing me to continue my European adventure and experience the importance of the health-tech industry during those COVID years.
And then came another unexpected chapter.
Microsoft. Again.
Thanks to
Philip Jordan, I got the chance to come back. I'll always be grateful. I remember thinking:
"Holy smokes. I made it back."
Over the last four years, I've had the privilege of learning under incredible leaders including
Scott Allen,
Svetlana Likhareva and
Kelly Obach, who helped shape the leader I am today.
And now...
I have that feeling again: gratitude, disbelief, excitement, and a little imposter syndrome.
Because I'm incredibly excited to share that I've started a new role in SME&C as the EMEA SME&C Marketing Excellence Lead.
It feels like I've made it.
Not because of the title or the role.
But because when I look back over nearly two decades, I see a career built on people who opened doors, took chances, offered coaching, gave sponsorship, and believed in me before I was ready to believe in myself.
Thank you to
Martin Cullen,
Deirdre Bourke,
Maja Løve Dybdahl,
Gordon Tate,
Donagh O'Shea,
Tim Nagels,
Marie Laffey, and the many others who have supported me along the way.
And most importantly, thank you,
Jen Sieger, for taking a bet on me and inviting me to be part of the incredible transformation you're already leading.
I'm already enjoying the ride.
To everyone who has been part of this journey:
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
And to that young Australian intern carrying around a ridiculously large Microsoft laptop all those years ago...
We made it. ❤️
