What’s my “Why VC”? At Harlem Capital it’s always been to break down barriers and increase access to VC funding for women and people of color. And every day I try to live that mission to the fullest - through our investing, our ecosystem work, and our intern program. We’ve invested in 60+ companies and 75+ founders across our two funds. Our team dug into the data to measure our impact across our portfolio and the ecosystem. Portfolio Impact - 384+ jobs created by HCP’s portfolio companies, 36% identify as people of color (POC) and 35% as women - 114 total management positions created, 44% held by POC and 36% held by women Capital Impact (2022-2023): - 6% of all Black & Latino (B&L) seed capital raised was HCP HCP-led syndicates - 15% of all Black seed deal volume ($) was HCP-led syndicates We’re only 5 years in to a long journey and it’s incredible to celebrate these milestones. Something small yet mighty happened while at the NatWest Accelerator cohort day in Milton Keynes last week Unbeknownst to them, Gemma Spinks and Joss Spinks from Spinks Creative said something that reignited a passion within me For context: going through a transitional period in your business isn’t easy, or fun and for a split second I considered jacking it in to become a dog sitter As a typical Taurean, quitting isn’t an option I can’t quite remember what Gemma and Joss said, but I sure as hell remember how it made me feel And it’s helped me get really clear on the type of brands I want to work with Brands that have purpose Brands that are fighting the good fight when it comes to rewriting the narrative and setting fire to the patriarchy and societal norms Brands that put longevity and sustainability above quick cash wins Brands that are actually giving people a voice The universe always has a beautiful way of honouring what I desire As such, I’m now working alongside 🧙🏽♀️ Sabrina Chevannes (EMBA, CMktr), Justina Lee Rosu and the he rest of the TEDx Shoreditch team on their PR Strategy The brand values of TED and the values of everyone on the TEDx Shoreditch align with mine If being in business for 11 years has taught me anything…. ….It’s that values, alignment and ethics are at the heart of connection, communication and collaboration I’m slowly reconnecting to what I truly want to do I’m slowly embracing the change I want to see in the world And being much more discerning when it comes to the types of brands I’ll work with I can’t wait to see where this re-directed journey takes me

I'm excited to share that I have completed the #HelloFinance virtual program hosted by hellohive 🐝 ! Over the span of two weeks, this program connected 1500+ students from over 300 schools and 17 financial services firms including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, BlackRock, Lazard etc. 🌟 Each of the sessions had a distinct goal like helping students find their "what" (function), "where" (to be), "why" (finance), "why" (you), and all other answers to questions that hundreds of us were trying to fit within each session. Every panelist and the hellohive team worked hard to ensure they didn't miss any questions, even if we ran over time. 🌟 You might say this is serendipity but it truly could not have been executed without the deliberate hard work 💪 of all members of hellohive (shout out to Byron Slosar, Gina Bruso, MBA, Claire Schulz, and other "helper bees") and the panelists who unreservedly passed on their wisdom ✨ 🌟 I am grateful for everything that I've learned from this experience and the people I got to connect with. It was amazing to see how different the participants were in terms of education, careers, majors, age, and so on (a great feature of hellohive is connecting people with diverse backgrounds ✨ ). 🤞 Fingers crossed for our participants on our way to pursuing a career in finance! #hellohive #hellofinance #finance #networking #careerdevelopment

Choosing the tech for your business is a huge deal. Like, the biggest. We chose Circle to be the home of our private member community for the ActiveCampaign Academy in 2021 and it is undeniably the best tech choice we made. If you’re looking for community tech, and you ask my advice, I’m going to say Circle, every time. Their CEO says set out to be undeniable in the space, and for my money, they’ve been that for a while now already. Testament to the value of Circle in my business is this story from mid 2023. They changed a feature slightly in a way that made it less useful for our specific technical B2B community. I literally cried about it when it rolled into my account and I saw what had changed. And that was when I realised exactly how much we depend on this platform to serve our customers the way we do, with connection, fluency, and speed, every single day. The happy ending…? Circle listened when we explained why it was such a bad change from our perspective, and for our community. And within 24 hours they’d rolled back the change, with apologies for making me cry. Boom.
