1000 Needles
1000 Needles is Cactuar's Special Shot debuting in Mario Hoops 3-on-3. It can be activated by tapping out an "S" shape. The move begins with Cactuar dribbling the ball in said shape,[1] causing it to glow green. Cactuar throws the ball straight up, catches it, and spirals over to the basket to dunk it, with white needles appearing for cosmetic effect. Cactuar is dizzy for about a second, indicated by two 8-bit Chocobos swirling around it. If Cactuar uses the move outside of the three-point line, it punches the ball in the air for a teammate to dunk.[2]
1000 Needles returns in the same capacity in Mario Sports Mix, except a small "1000" is shown above any affected opponents for cosmetic effect.
The name of the Special Shot is shared with 1000 Needles, a Blue Magic spell usable mainly by Cactuars in the Final Fantasy series.
