HOLA AMIGA 7: Presence / Time Machines

There’s something pure about the present moment. Unlike the past or future, it’s harder to cloud it with hopes, fears, regrets, or overly romanticized memories.

I’ve got a few “time machines” that bring me back to the present moment: exercise, being in nature, riding my motorcycle through the mountains, hanging out by rivers or lakes, walking, stretching, listening to music, making art, or just watching my dogs chase each other around. These things help me stay grounded and remind me that the present moment is the clearest way to experience life.

Rediscovering Discovery

When I was working at Microsoft, I created a zine called "Hola Amiga." This was a respite from 3D CGI art and marketing strategy, serving as a spontaneous playground for curiosity, play and discovery. I have been fully immersed in various corporations for the last decade. Recently, I spent some time in Mexico to rediscover the joy of discovery. I have returned INSPIRED, filled with ideas and excitement to create a wide range of things, including cement sculptures, wooden furniture, ceramics, paintings, and silkscreens. Here is some recent input and output from this beautiful country, Mexico.

The beautiful voices in your head.

Get to know the beautiful voices in your head! I spent years creating artwork ( https://www.n8w.com/ ) before embracing the magic of a sketchbook. My wise professors urged me to treasure my sketchbooks, foreseeing their sentimental value. Though I brushed off their advice initially, I've come to see the light. Embracing sketching as a daily practice, I've found joy in unexpected ideas, personified in whimsical ways like amoebas, birds, bicycles, and more. I started with the intent of creating art, but many of my sketches have led to other things like websites, events, books, and product ideas. Just like my mentors, I now sing the praises of sketchbooks. You don't need to be an artist to benefit from this practice. It's a beautiful way for anyone to connect with themselves and discover creativity they never knew they had! My daily sketches https://www.instagram.com/n8wsketchbook/
